WELCOMING MESSAGE
Ts. Zainab binti Ahmad
General Director
Department of Polytechnic and College Community Education (DPCCE)
Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia.
Assalammualaikum and Greetings.
Alhamdulillah, all praise and thanks to Allah SWT for His grace and permission that we can come
together to celebrate the International Tourism and Hospitality Network 2022 (ITHN 2022): Embracing
Digitalization of TVET In Higher Education. Congratulations to Langkawi Tourism Academy @
Langkawi Community College with the Curriculum Division and TVET Coordination Division,
Department of Polytechnic and College Community Education (DPCCE) for the success of ITHN
2022.
First and foremost, I would like to thank our distinguished and respected
panels, and everyone present for joining us. We are greatly honoured
to have with us esteemed panelists from Guimaras State University,
Philippines, Politeknik Negeri Sambas, Indonesia, Rajamangala University
of Technology Srivijaya, Thailand and Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Polytechnic,
Malaysia. This programme would not become a success without supports
from each one of you. Hoping that all knowledge shared will contribute
the best impact from the discussion on our topic, Embracing Digitalization of
TVET in Higher Education.
The importance of using digital technology is in line with the Malaysian
Education Development Plan which was discussed in 2013. In 2018, the
Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) introduced guidelines for the
implementation of education based on the Fourth Revolution (4IR) concept.
Among them is to produce students who are more proficient in self-learning
and able to set the direction of their own learning process and it also
encourages lecturers to carry out the role of learning facilitators and they
are no longer the main source of reference in the process of Teaching and
Learning.
Together here, I put my highest hope for ITHN 2022 to become an inclusive
platform in strengthening collaboration between all the students as well as the
academicians, and to explore deeply about the challenges and how we can
adapt to the academic’s world change with the presence of the new norm
in which, more to the global digitalization approach. Let us use this
opportunity to learn and share on the ideas of enhancing TVET
ecosystem together in the world of digitalization.
Thank you.

especially the Academic Unit, Langkawi Tourism Academy @Kolej Community Langkawi

Mrs. Nor Zairina binti Zainal Abidin
Pengarah
Program International Tourism and Hospitality Network 2022 (ITHN 2022)
Assalammualaikum and Greetings

Academy @Kolej Community Langkawi (LTA@KKLK) with the Curriculum Division and TVET
Coordination Division, Department of Polytechnic and College Community Education with

INTERNATIONAL TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY NETWORK 2022
BACKGROUND
Langkawi Tourism Academy@ Kolej Komuniti Langkawi (LTA@KKLK) is committed in
shaping students’ character in ensuring that the LTA@KKLKs’ graduates have a high sense
of identity and love for the country. In accordance with that, LTA@KKLK would like to organize
the International Tourism and Hospitality Network 2022 (ITHN): Embracing Digitalization of
TVET in Higher Education program. This program will involve lecturers and students from
Polytechnics and Community Colleges, overseas Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), and
officers from the Department of Polytechnic and Community College Education.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic faced by the whole world since 2020, Teaching and
Learning (TnL) in HEIs throughout Malaysia must continue with a new norm. Various
initiatives have been taken and explored by HEIs to ensure that students do not fall behind
the TnL process; one of which is virtual learning. For TVET HEIs, face-to-face TnL for practical
courses is very important and difficult to implement virtually. However, in order to meet the
current needs and requirements, the lecturers at HEIs have developed a creative
innovation of practical TnL virtually.
As we are currently moving to the endemic phase, TnL has been hybridized in which face-to-
face and online implementation (hybrid) are conducted simultaneously. This leads us to the
question ‘how does the COVID-19 post-pandemic implementation have an impact on the TnL
process for students, lecturers, and institution management?’. To answer this question,
LTA@KKLK intends to host this program and provide a platform for students and academic staff
to discuss together, scientifically the challenges faced and how to adapt to the changing
world of academia through new norms that are more of a global technological approach.
The International Tourism and Hospitality Network 2022 (ITHN 2022) program started with
the opening ceremony and will be further enlivened with the montage video. Once finished, there
will be a live broadcast from the exhibition site in conjunction with ITHN 2022. At the same
time, this symposium will continue with the symposium and three (3) discussion sessions namely
Session 1: The Challenges and Expectations of TVET in Higher Education Digitalization which
is a discussion platform among students, Session 2: Digitalization of TVET in Higher
Education and Its Impact on Classroom Instruction which is a knowledge sharing platform
among lecturers, and Session 3: Readiness of TVET in Higher Institutions in Going Digital
which is a discussion among the management of Higher Education Institutions. The
symposium will end with a closing ceremony.
INTERNATIONAL TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY NETWORK 2022
OBJECTIVE
1. Discuss initiatives and innovation development by students and lecturers at IPT
TVET in implementing TnL virtually.
2. Provide exposure to the evolution and renewal in TnL at TVET HEIs with the new
post-pandemic norms of COVID-19.
3. Provide a knowledge-sharing platform for strengthening the implementation of
TnL in TVET HEIs with the new norms post COVID-19 pandemic.
