Putrajaya Botanical Garden is regarded as the 'Mother of All Gardens' in Putrajaya. The three primary phases of establishment are: Phase 1 focuses on "floral attractions" and spans 63 acres. Phase 2, which focused on ethnobotany and conservation, was fully developed and finished in November 2014. Phase 3 Concept of Nature & Conservation, a crop for threatened wild plants that is based on study and conservation. DEVELOPMENT STAGE OF PUTRAJAYA BOTANICAL GARDEN Putrajaya Botanical Garden construction began in the late 1990s, shortly after Putrajaya was designated as Malaysia's new administrative capital. The building and expansion of the garden took several years to create the magnificent botanical landscape we know today. Putrajaya Botanical Garden was one of the first parks to open in Putrajaya, and Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad presided over its inauguration on February 4, 2003. In 2008, the Royal Chelsea Foundation recognized Putrajaya Botanical Garden as one of Asia's Most Amazing Gardens at the Royal Chelsea Flower Show in London. Lake Recreation Center was opened to public on May 5, 2023. With the concept of Green Sustainable, the center offers no motored vehicles for water activities.

Visitor Interpretation Center, Heliconia Trail and Canopy Bridge One of the buildings that was developed that works for bicycle ticket sales sessions and also exhibits several types of dried plants and animals that have been preserved to introduce to visitors who come and go there. In addition, this building also has a path that connects with the Trail Helikonia which is Titian Kanopi which is built 175 meters long. It is located in a valley filled with various species of tropical forest plants such as meranti, keruing and cengal which are maintained very well. DESIGN STANDARD Moroccan Pavilion Wedges who visit the Botanical Garden, your visit will not be complete if you do not stop for a while at the Moroccan Pavilion, which has a high and interesting architecture. The Moroccan Pavilion is the first contemporary Moroccan Islamic architecture found in Asia. The architecture that is presented is a replica of the original construction in Andalusia and Spain. The concept that combines the concept of water, the subtlety of stone carving art and the beauty of handmade marble and the landscape of palm trees gives the impression of 'Heaven on earth'

Explore Various Crops Has a wide variety of flowers, herbs and other unique plants. Not just a visit, you can learn and obtain a variety of useful information. The plant is divided into several parts such as the collection of Tropical American plants, the collection of African plants, the Fern Garden and the Solar Garden. Tourists can jog in the Botanical Garden because it has an area with an estimated track of 3.4 km only and it takes about 1 hour 4 minutes to jog this park. The route is easy and flat, suitable for children and the elderly to jog. Lose the tiredness of walking or jogging when you can breathe fresh air here. DESIGN STANDARD SUN GARDEN Walking down the orchid trail leading to the building of the Sun Clock, patrons have the opportunity to read the time resulting from the shadows formed on the surface of the copper plate at the bottom of the clock. In addition, visitors also have the opportunity to see the design of the board house found at the top of the Sun Garden area.

Mainly in Putrajaya, the parks are managed by the Putrajaya Corporation. Putrajaya Corp is also a Local Authority (PBT) where they manage parks of Putrajaya. Based on the Putrajaya Corp Strategic Plan 2021- 2025, under the third objective strategy which is to boost the world-class tourism industry. The first strategy is to improve and diversify tourism products. There are programs that strengthen the strategy by developing Putrajaya as an ecotourism destination. For example, the Putrajaya Botanical Garden targets four focused products that are coordinated by the Corporate Communications Division or the Park's Interpretive and Educational Division. Moreover, the second strategy is to improve and diversify the quality of tourism infrastructure. The Putrajaya Botanical Garden supports the plan through, especially upgrading the facilities in the park. For example, the Botanic Garden is in the process of completing the Canopy Bridge because the Botanic Garden building was originally built in 1999. So, many facilities need to be upgraded due to the long period of time until the Canopy Bridge or the bridge itself is made of wood making it in a dilapidated and obsolete state. “In addition, the Botanical Garden does its best to upgrade the basic facilities found in the garden from time to time.” Said Puan Nur Nisha Binti Mohd Idrus, Landscape and Park Department. Next, maintaining the trees according to the best practical agriculture is also a plan implemented by the Putrajaya Botanical Gardens. With this, the initiative is put into practice so that others can make this park a reference park in terms of tree care, how to maintain it and so on. Furthermore, increase promotion and marketing as the third strategy in the plan stated. The special campaign of Putrajaya as a Sports Tourism destination, MICE and International Islamic Tourism, participating in exhibitions and domestic and international sales missions, implementing tourism support initiatives, the Putrajaya tourism website, familiarization trips, and participating in award competitions or tourism recognition are some of the programs planned and carried out every year. Strengthening strategic S4 cooperation is the last strategy. The effort presented is to establish strategic cooperation with Stakeholders in achieving the implementation of Programs or Tourism Promotions or Networks, in-house park programs and events and collaboration with external agencies, and cooperation with Government and private agencies that are related to the tourism industry with the concept of ecotourism. Under the Putrajaya Corp Structure Plan 2021-2025, the first policy states that it encourages the establishment of educational and research institutions. The Botanic Garden provides targets that involve efforts to develop education and awareness about Botany. Among them, the Botanic Garden uses methods through the provision of signs in the garden, updating the information found in the garden, planning and organizing numerous programs with school students in prioritizing knowledge about the importance of taking care of the garden so that it can be inherited because clearly our world is getting older. Accordingly, various issues have occurred such as pollution, global warming, climate change where things are getting hotter lately, and others. IMPLEMENTATION OF TOURISM POLICY

The actual cause we see a lot in terms of the destruction of the hills being cut down many times and so on. Trees were also destroyed, then a lot of erosion happened out there. For instance, landslides and subsequently resulting in polluted rivers. When the streak is detected, the trees are reduced so that we can feel the heat more than usual. As such, an awareness education is very important for the public to conserve these trees so that they are not arbitrarily cut down and avoid replanting trees. Meanwhile, in implementing the awareness and educational program on green living and practices, Putrajaya will seek cooperation from international and local organizations. After educational and awareness program were rolledout, Putrajaya will encourage residents and green associations to execute communities’ action in implementing the reduction of carbon footprint activities. Under initiative 5.4, it stated that the program that inculcate understanding of the communities on their role in reducing carbon footprint Educational and awareness program will be conducted to provide the understanding of reduction of carbon footprint initiatives and inculcate green culture. Communities should at least understand the basic elements of carbon footprint reduction initiatives such as 3R, composting, home garden and separation at source. Preserve and improve green area plays a big and important role here by setting up educational and research institutional by set up a National Centre for Wetland and Lake Management Research, also to expand function of Putrajaya Botanical Garden as a center for botany science and urban horticulture where we can found under initiative 1.2. Increasingly, the population density is high and there are many high-rise houses, not many people live in landed property because of the price. So, the green area including the Putrajaya Botanical Garden actually helps them to feel that the area is more spacious to carry out activities and program. However, we need to have some carrying capacities in the garden because when it is too dense, the need for improvement is also quite urgent. For example, if there are too many people in the park, then more trash cans need to be provided to accommodate that need. Also, the density should not be so compact until the park is not fun anymore. Even if you want to cycle, you have to stop because there are so many people in the park, isn’t it? It is nice to have a medium carrying capacity because there were as many as 600 5000 visitors in the year 2019. It is right when the number of visitors come, the revenue will increase but at the same time we need to always provide more facilities. For instance, the preparation of trash cans, the frequency of cleaning needs to be increased because once they enter the garden, they're gonna start using the facilities in the garden. When the facilities are frequently used, the Putrajaya Botanical Garden has to add more workers to always clean the garden. This thing has to be parallel. In short, the goal is to make Putrajaya a sustainable city, achieve the wishes of the shareholders, and reveal the importance of knowledge about plants in the Putrajaya Botanical Garden itself. IMPLEMENTATION OF TOURISM POLICY cont.

Positive impacts on the economy of Putrajaya Botanical Garden may include: 1. Tourism revenue: The garden can attract both local and international tourists, contributing to the local economy through visitor spending on accommodations, transportation, food, and other related services. Significantly, before Covid-19, many people came to visit the park in 2019. Generating revenue before Covid-19 to some extent can help generate revenue because the Botanical Garden has site rentals to implement outdoor programmes such as team building, recreation and so on where a green atmosphere is needed which is in the Putrajaya Botanical Garden itself. Systematically, they pay according to the set hours. Moreover, bike rental can also help to upgrade the park as well so that it is always safe and manageable. Therefore, the cost of generating these rentals are the income for that matter. ECONOMIC IMPACTS 2. Job creation: The operation and maintenance of Putrajaya Botanical Garden require staff for various roles, including gardeners, ticketing personnel, security personnel, and administrative staff. These employment opportunities can benefit the local community. Job opportunities at Putrajaya Botanical Gardens are actually for maintenance work. In relation to that, the Botanic Garden needs the help of workers by preparing a contract where this contract requires many workers to manage the garden. That is how job opportunities are opened and expanded in the Putrajaya Botanical Gardens. Apart from that, the Botanical Garden offers to local people to open their business there, like food vendors, but on a contractual basis. Do not easily hire or recruit anyone because when something happens they will leave it alone without full responsibility. Why? First of all, there is no sense of ownership. Therefore, if these visitors come and go, the management does not know about the food hygiene and so on. If they seek for one desperately, they can apply it to Putrajaya Corporation themselves for making sales and so on. Especially they will focus for hiring the local worker and expertise in food and beverage too. Recently, Botanical Gardens already work with community which they have Kelulut field. To be specific, Kelulut field is one of the plans of the Putrajaya Botanical Garden to aid especially Putrajaya residents who are interested in taking care of Kelulut bees such as how to harvest and so on so that they can develop on their own and can try to generate income from Kelulut bees in the future. For example, apart from honey bee Kelulut, there are also other byproducts where soap is made. Indirectly, the Putrajaya Botanical Garden becomes a source of reference so that they, the community, can help the Garden in terms of training and ultimately be able to maintain everything in a good place.

However, here are some control measures that can be implemented to manage economic impacts in such a location: 1. Economic diversification: Encourage a variety of economic activities within Putrajaya Botanical Garden to reduce reliance on a single industry or sector, ensuring a more stable and resilient economy. The Putrajaya Botanical Garden encourages a variety of economic activities within the garden as they work with target groups, meaning they have conduct activities such as educational modules implemented with schools. But not to open publicly yet because they have internal issues also like staff constraints. 2. Infrastructure development: Invest in necessary infrastructure such as transportation networks, utilities, and telecommunication systems to support business growth and attract investments. This beautiful garden needs a fund to maintain, collect trees, dry leaves, fertilize the trees for flowering. At the same time, the Putrajaya Botanical Garden is trying to get a budget from the Central Government to maintain security purposes. In conclusion, maintenance is very important to be maintained consistently. 3. Ancillary businesses: The presence of Taman Botani Putrajaya can stimulate the development of businesses such as restaurants, souvenir shops, and accommodations. For instance, the information on the plants is now labelling and additional information can be found by scanning the qr code and will even be connected to MyBiz. In addition, MyBiz is a collaboration programme between the Putrajaya Botanical Garden and MyBiz. Plus, they work together with other agencies to ensure that they can sustain their education in order to have a great systematic and database. It is because the entrance fee is free so they thought that revenue for keeping sustaining this garden in a long term goals. 3. Business incentives: Offer attractive financial incentives, tax breaks, grants, or subsidies for businesses operating in Putrajaya Botanical Garden, promoting both new investments and the expansion of existing enterprises. Putrajaya Botanical Garden encourages operators, outsiders, and external companies who have the ability to implement other programmes. The command can be said as manpower, 24-hour security, and securing the place. In other words, the garden's operators where they engage from outsiders. So, whoever is interested in that particular business work can send a proposal and wait for the management's approval. Hence, the functions are there but not so massive and according to the scale according to the capacity of the Botanic Gardens. Nevertheless, they have engaged with universities to help them with education programmes. 4. Tourism promotion: Develop marketing strategies to promote Putrajaya Botanical Garden as a tourist destination, attracting visitors and boosting the local economy through increased spending on accommodation, dining, shopping, and leisure activities. They face a lot of challenges in investing in facilities of improving the digital

technologies system because the main reason was funding is very insufficient and it is hard to be found to innovate something useful and convenient in Putrajaya Botanical Garden. Most importantly, it is likely to put high risk where to ensure that it turns out to be a great investment in the future to attract people as well as specifically the aim is to promote the garden. SOCIAL IMPACTS Putrajaya Botanical Garden has had a huge social impact on the local community as well as the visitors. The following are some of the botanical garden's positive social impacts: 1) Recreation and Leisure: Putrajaya Botanical Garden offers a tranquil and natural environment for individuals to unwind in and carry out leisure activities. It is a popular destination for families, friends, and people to spend quality time together, have picnics, go for walks, cycle around the garden or ride the paddle boats. The garden serves as an escape and relief from the hectic daily life. 2) Education and Awareness: The botanical garden has an important role in educating visitors about Malaysia's rich biodiversity, diverse ecosystems, and the value of environmental preservation. Through its educational programs, guided tours, and information boards, the garden provides useful insights on Malaysia's flora and fauna. Putrajaya Botanical Garden encourages visitors to feel responsible for the environment by increasing awareness. Apart from that, there is also a book kiosk at the garden. Like a mini library, the kiosk have books of several genres. Visitors can freely take a book, read and return it. The kiosk also accept book donation from visitors. 3) Cultural Exchange: The Moroccan Pavilion in Putrajaya Botanical Garden is a symbol of diplomatic ties and cultural exchange between Morocco and Malaysia. The pavilion showcases Moorish architecture, design, and culture. Visitors can explore the pavilion and appreciate the architecture within the beautiful surroundings of Putrajaya Botanical Garden. The picturesque pavilion is also deemed as Instagram-worthy spots among visitors. Many people came here for their pre-graduation or wedding photoshoot. 4) Community Engagement: Putrajaya Botanical Garden hosts various community events, such as festivals (eg. Royal Floria Putrajaya), plant exhibitions, and nature-related workshops. These events encourage community involvement and provide people a chance to interact, exchange knowledge, and appreciate the natural beauty of the garden. Additionally, the garden often collaborates with schools, universities and organizations to promote environmental education and community participation. So far, no negative social impact can be detected at Putrajaya Botanical Garden. However, the garden is currently short of manpower. There is no staff to guide visitors around the garden. Existence of attended interpretation like tour guide could help visitors better understand the flora and fauna in the garden. Some control measures are implemented to overcome this problem: 1) Family Worksheet: Under their educational program, Putrajaya Botanical Garden provides a material named “Family Worksheet”. Visitors

can take this worksheet, bring it together with them around the park and answer the questions in the worksheet based on the signages or information boards. This initiative helps to educate visitors and increase their understanding while they are completing the worksheet. 2) Collaboration with Local Universities: Putrajaya Botanical Garden plans to work together with Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) to create an “Education Trail”. It requires a lot of manpower to build the trail in which Putrajaya Botanical Garden is not capable of. Through collaboration with local universities, the management of Putrajaya Botanical Garden can make improvements based on the feedback and information from the findings or research done by the universities. At the same time, collaboration is also beneficial for university students since they gain merits to support their program or fulfill course requirements. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS 1) Sustain its high quality environment: There is no doubt that green areas developed in the city of Putrajaya including Putrajaya Botanical Garden offers a great panoramic view. Beyond that, based on Putrajaya Structure Plan 2025, Putrajaya has the strength of quality and exemplary living environment. As the city is well developed with many parks such as Putrajaya Botanical Garden, it can sustain its high quality environment. The city aimed to develop towards green living which aligns with Putrajaya Botanical Garden main role, to spread awareness and educate the citizens related to botanical knowledge. 2) Enhancing ecology, water body and diversity: According to the Towards Putrajaya Green City 2025 report, centers for botany Science and urban horticulture such as Putrajaya Botanical Garden can preserve and improve green area as well as enhancing ecology, water body and diversity. For instance, it practices rainwater harvesting and composting organic waste. With the establishment of Putrajaya Botanical Garden together with other recreational parks such as Taman Saujana Hijau and Putrajaya Wetlands Park, it contributes to the reduction of carbon footprint of the city which is one of the important initiatives supporting Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Puan Nisha in the interview mentioned, “Most of Putrajaya locals prefer quiet environments and dislike congestion, thus, the serene environment and conveniencefacilities draw peopleto spend time here.” When diving into the risks faced Putrajaya Botanical Garden, some control measures are implemented for instance, signage is used for the visitors to acknowledge to not litter around, the management scheduled pest control and maintenance of facilities at the garden (washrooms, bicycles, paddle boats etc.) systematically and patrol around the garden for safety. These control measures are implemented with the aim to ensure the visitors' satisfaction in Putrajaya Botanical Garden is achieved. Ultimately, the development of Putrajaya Botanical Garden has impacted the city environment positively and the control measures taken are essential for the sustainability of the garden to continuously offer great experience between the visitors and nature.

FUTURE PLANNING A strategy plan known as Sustainable Putrajaya 2025 was made possible by Section 8 of the Town and Country Planning Act of1976 (Act172).
