2018 / 2019 The objective of this programme is to produce Muslim human capitals who are well
trained, knowledgeable, and also competent in business and entrepreneurship areas to
satisfy the needs for various industries and services sectors.

This programme provides a strong core curriculum providing students a strong foundation
of knowledge applicable to any business career. It is designed to offer a broad-based
programme of business and management sciences together with the necessary technical
skills and Islamic values.

Career Prospects: To become a great entrepreneur, to work in a private sector as marketing
executives, operations, human resources, either in trading and production industries. They
are also qualified to work in a government/public sector as managers, administrators,
planners, advisors, educators, researchers etc.

A graduate with this degree will be equipped for mostly any job within the banking industry
and financial organisations. The demand for experts in Islamic banking and finance is
rapidly growing. The programme’s curriculum is designed to fulfill this need by producing

The emphasis of this programme is on the conceptualization of the Islamic economy from

This four (4) year programme provides students with information about early, medieval,
modern and contemporary Islamic history, and civilisation. It also gives them special
knowledge regarding various cultures and civilisation recorded in early and modern
sources. In addition, it trains the students in studying and analysing historical issues in
order to know what took place in the life of the Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu ‘Alaihi
Wasallam, the time of the Righteous Caliphs, Umayyad, and Abbasid periods. This

Master of Halal Management
The programme will equip students with advance and professional knowledge through
courses and practices as well as expose them to the latest developments in the field of
halal. Graduates of this programme can have a career in planning, management, research,
academia and industry related to the management of halal industry.

Master of Shariah and Halal Laws
This field of study focuses on Shariah laws and civil laws pertaining to the national and
international halal industry. Development of new legal rules in accordance with the laws
of the State, maqasid shariah and fiqh jurisprudence, policies, standards and fatwa of
halal products is one of the main researches in this field. In addition, the administration of
Islamic laws, international trade laws, consumer protection laws, laws of product liability
and safety will also be studied.

Some of the courses offered are Research Methodology for Science/Social Science,
Philosophy of Halalan Thayyiban, Halal Sciences and Globalisation, Information

Halal Industry and Product, Halal Product Innovation, Halal Product Research Seminar,

Mode of Teaching: Student-centered learning i.e. case study, seminar, forum, modules,
problem-based learning, project-oriented learning, presentation and lectures.

Terms of graduation: Successfully completed the research/dissertation project (6
credits) and registered with at least 36 credit hours of the courses offered and pass the
courses including the Memorisation and Commentary of the Quran course (6 credits).

Specific Entry Requirements

‘A’ Level A minimum of 160 points for two (2) ‘A’ Level relevant subjects or 200 prospectus
or STPUB for (3) relevant subjects preferably Shariah not exceeding three (3)
Qualification or years of last examination with a minimum grade D;
its equivalent or
Passed Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Ugama Brunei (STPUB) examination or
Mathematics its equivalent with an average grade ‘Jayyid’.
GCE ‘O’ Level or
its equivalent At least a credit 6 in Mathematics at GCE ‘O’ Level or IGCSE examination
or any statistics or mathematics course passed with ‘Merit’ and above at
International HND level may be considered in lieu of the GCE ‘O’ Level Mathematics
Baccalaureate for those who have only acquired pass (D7 or E8).

Diploma A minimum score of 24 points including a minimum of 5 points each in
Qualification at least two relevant subjects (including mathematics) taken at higher
level, or 5,5,4 for 3 relevant subjects (including mathematics) taken at
Mature higher level.
Applicants
A Higher National Diploma (HND) / Foundation Degree / Advanced
Diploma Qualification or equivalent from institutions recognised by
the University Senate who have obtained at least ‘Merit’ passes in 5
subjects relevant to the degree programme to which admission is being
sought may be considered.

At least three (3) years of working experience in related fields with
1 ‘A’ Level or at least five (5) years with 4 ‘O’ Levels in any relevant
subject. Applicants may sit for the English Proficiency Test (EPT) and
Mathematics Proficiency Test (MPT) conducted by the faculty.

BACHELOR OF LAWS & BACHELOR OF SHARIAH LAW

Specific Entry Requirements

‘A’ Level A minimum of 240 points for three (3) ‘A’ Level passes in relevant
or STPUB subjects preferably Shariah; and the subjects should be of minimum
Qualification or grade ‘C’;
its equivalent or
Passed Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Ugama Brunei (STPUB) examination or
its equivalent with an average grade ‘Jayyid Jiddan ’.

Diploma A Higher National Diploma (HND) / Foundation Degree / Advanced
Qualification Diploma Qualification or equivalent from institutions recognised by
the University Senate who have obtained at least ‘Merit’ passes in 5
prospectus subjects relevant to the degree programme to which admission is being
sought may be considered.

International At least 28 points including a minimum of 5, 5, 4 in relevant subjects at
Baccalaureate the higher level. Accepted subjects will be assessed on a case-by-case
basis.

Mature At least three (3) years of working experience in related fields with 1 ‘A’

Applicants Level or at least five (5) years with 4 ‘O’ Levels in any relevant subject.

Applicants may sit for the English Proficiency Test (EPT) conducted by

the faculty.

• Application for a Degree by Research must be accompanied by a research proposal.
The research proposal is, generally, expected to include the following elements:
proposed title; rationale; aims and methodology; literature review; preliminary
bibliography; provisional timetable; provisional table of contents, and an indication
of any special requirements for the study.

• Applicants applying for postgraduate programmes must fulfils any other special
requirements from the Faculty / Centre concerned.

• Applicants applying for postgraduate programmes may also be required to sit for al-
Qur’an al-Karim recitation test conducted by the University.

• If deemed necessary, applicants may also be required to attend an interview
conducted by the relevant Faculty/ Centre.

Ph.D Programme

• The minimum requirement for study in Doctoral of Philosophy is normally a Master
Degree or equivalent from an institution recognised by the University Senate.

• Currently enrolled in a Master Programme at UNISSA and recommended by the faculty
and approved by the Postgraduate Studies Committee (PSC) to pursue study at PhD or
any other Doctoral Degree Programme with the University Senate endorsement; or

• A Bachelor Degree with First Class Honours from UNISSA or other institutions
recognised by the University Senate.

Master Degree Programme

• The minimum requirement for Master Degree Programmes is normally a relevant
Bachelor Degree with Honors (CGPA at least 2.66) or its equivalent from institutions
recognised by the University Senate unless otherwise stated.

• Applicants who do not possess a Bachelor Degree with Honors may be considered,
provided that the applicant has three (3) years of relevant professional experience
recognised by the University Senate.

Diploma Programme

• The minimum requirement for Diploma Programmes is normally a relevant Bachelor
Degree or its equivalent from institutions recognised by the University Senate unless
otherwise stated.

• Applicants who do not possess a Bachelor Degree may be considered, provided
that the applicant has three (3) years in advocacy and judiciary or related field, and
Recommendation from the Head of Department in which the applicant is or was
working at.

Language Requirement

Applicants who will be writing their thesis / dissertation in:

English are required to obtain at least a credit 6 in English Language at GCE
‘O’ Level Examinations, or a grade ‘B’ in IGCSE English (as a Second
Language), or a band 6.0 for IELTS, or a minimum overall score of at
least 550 for TOEFL.

Arabic are required to obtain at least band 6.0 in International Arabic Language
Testing System (IALTS).

Malay are required to obtain at least a credit in the GCE ‘O’ Level Malay
Language or its equivalent.

ACADEMIC CALENDAR

2018/2019

UNISSA’s academic calendar consists of two regular semesters and a special term also
known as Special Semester.

Each regular semester runs for approximately 14 weeks of teaching, 1 week of mid-
semester break and 1 week of revision period followed by 2 weeks of examinations. The
first semester operates from August until December whilst the second semester operates
from January until May.

prospectus The Special Semester takes place during the long vacation period and runs for
approximately 7 weeks of teaching followed by 1 week of examination. The Special
Semester is usually conducted for Higher National Diploma and double-degree programme
students.
