Economic Benefit from college
The economic Benefit you get from going to college is a lot better than not going. The liekly
hood that you get the job you want while having a college degree goes up emmensly rather than
if you didn’t have the degree. In the year 2009, The unemployment rate while not having a
college education was 6 points higher than the rating while having a college education
according to U3 unemployment by education.
Potential problem from student debt
Student debt causes problems for many years, although it may seem like a good idea to take all
the debt in, you have to take a deeper look into it. Not all college majors, will end up paying off
your degree. The longer you don’t [ay off your loan, the rate goes up due to intrest. So you are
paying much more than you borrowed. Since this is the case, you have to make sure you have
the right major. College is a lot of money, you have to be sure you enjoy what you are doing.
You don’t want to waste all your money. For example; Majors with high unemployment rates
may not be the best idea, The Major with the highest unemployment is Petroleum Engenering.
The unemployment rate is 7.5%, while the median income $87,600. If you want to Get your
degree at Penn State, The average annual cost is about $30,000, that’s 120,000 for four years
of school. Other Major is film video and photographic arts, the unemployment rate is 6.5% while
the average income is $37,000, if you wanted to go to Syracuse, the average annual cost is
$30,000, That’s 120,000 for four years.
Overall issue of attending or not attending for economic reasons
The only issue I would face is getting the right job to pay off my student loan. I feel that The
unemployment rating for people with degrees is too high. The experience is there since you
spent all the money paying for the education. I don’t want to be almost 40 years old and having
to still pay off most of my student loans. I don’t want have to worry about not being able to afford
a ring for my future wife because of my debt, or not knowing if it’s worth it to send my son to
college. I personally feel that being able to get an education to help me with my future job is
right and I still want to attend college knowing the risks of the debt. But I definetly will look into
finding the write major.
