Newsline CARAVANNERS & CAMPERS CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP www.cccf.org.uk May 2024 & &
From the Editor Welcome to the May edition of Newsline, and my final one as Editor. It’s been an honour to have designed Newsline over the last four years. I know it allows members to keep in touch and see what everyone is up to, even if they are no longer rallying, and it’s been a privilege to be a part of that. My thanks go to Andy Moles for taking over as Editor. I wish him all the best and await with interest to see what direction he will take it. It’s been a turbulent time for me over the last couple of years as most of you will know. I re-sat my exam last week and I’m convinced I’ve failed yet again. But I will get there. Spring is a time for new beginnings, so onwards and upwards, ever faithful. Sadly I don’t have a unit now and therefore won’t be doing much rallying (except for Criccieth thanks to Paul Smith for lending me his caravan), so I won’t see many of you. But I wish you all well and thank you for 2 About Newsline Newsline is the magazine of the members of the Caravanners and Campers Christian Fellowship (CCCF). It is here that members can share their enjoyment of rallies, Christian experiences, celebrations, caravan and camping tips or anything that you think will be of interest to fellow members. We would encourage you to send in your articles and pictures for publication as in this way we are also able to keep in touch between our rallies. Please remember that due to Data Protection, you need permission to send any articles that pertain to other people or pictures in which people are clearly recognised. This can be done by simply making people aware that photos are being taken at rallies for publication, and giving them the chance to opt out. The deadline for submission is 20th of the month prior to publication (publications are January, March, May, July, September and November). Please send all submissions to newsline@cccf.org.uk your words of support and encouragement. With thanks and blessings, Diane Diane Noble Newsline Editor Thanks to Chris Baker for the cover photo & &
4 Angela’s Article First of all, I must say a huge thank you to Diane for editing Newsline for the past four years. She has done a fantastic job, and I am sure you would all agree. The quality has been excellent, and she has carried on despite the difficult circumstances she faced so we are really grateful. May God bless you as you step down. We are also grateful to Andy Moles who is taking on this role from Diane; he realises he has a very hard act to follow but will do his best. Please continue to send articles for Newsline to newsline@cccf.org. uk that will be sent on to Andy. The next deadline will be June 20th the more articles we have about rallies and members the more interesting Newsline is. Have you managed to get your unit out yet? We have not; we seem to have had even more rain this year! Again quite a few rallies over the Easter period were cancelled because the fields were waterlogged! It is disappointing to not be able to meet up and have fellowship together. We are grateful that we have had a few days here and there where the sun has come out! We are now looking forward to SBHR, this year at St Ives, Cambridgeshire. The programme is almost complete but as usual there is a need for volunteers to come forward. If you are willing to help with the children’s activities then we would appreciate if you contacted me ASAP, as I would need to sort a DBS for you (my contact details are on the back.) Prayer is vital; we need to be praying for those organising and for each person attending. We want God’s name to be glorified and His blessing to fall on the camp! If you have a passion for prayer, we would love to hear from you if you would like to join the prayer team at SBHR. Again, please contact me and I can put you in touch with the right person. When the sun shines, I find life is so much brighter; the beautiful blossom on the trees, everything comes alive, the gardens are looking beautiful, yes, we need the rain to help things grow but without the sun nothing would grow, we need its warmth as well as it’s light! Spring is my favourite time of the year. I feel able to do more! It’s even more so in the spiritual realm, without the light of Christ and His love and warmth we could not grow. We need to look to the Son! As we spend time in the presence of Jesus so we will grow. This old song came to mind when I saw the sun shining through the window this morning: ‘Turn your eye’s upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.’ & &
5 He has the answers to everything, and as we spend time with Him in the quiet place, He will reveal them to us. Psalm 34 v 5 Those who look to Him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. As we look to Jesus spending time in his presence we too will become like a beautiful garden because we will reflect/radiate His glory. The things that burden us will as it says in the chorus above, grow dim; we will feel it less because we have our eyes on Him. I don’t know about you, but I want to radiate Jesus as if I was looking at Him in the mirror. I want to reflect His glory to those around me. Being changed into His likeness. Let’s seek to be more like Him. 1Corinthians 3 v 18 And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into His likeness with everincreasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. Angela Angela Hannay Chairman Your burger van needs you...! Again, this year the SBHR Planning Team have the free loan of the burger van from Show Jesus Mission for the duration of the rally. The plan is to provide bacon baps each morning for breakfast, and bacon baps and burgers for lunch and tea. To make this plan work I need a willing team of volunteers on a rota to cook and in return are rewarded with a free breakfast, lunch or tea. Lesley and I have the requisite Food Safety Level 2 Certificate so can train anyone offering to cook. I am looking for a team of men who love cooking, albeit usually outdoors on a BBQ, assisted by the ladies. If you intend coming to St Ives this month, it would be useful to know before we arrive if you would be willing to do a stint or two cooking. Please email me at david.lynn142@aol.com with your phone number so I can add you to the WhatsApp Group. If you cannot decide just yet, I will be also recruiting at the rally using the daily news sheet, so look out for my appeal. David David Lynn & &
6 Paul’s Page When considering the article for Newsline, two thoughts came into my mind. The first one, Christ is the answer. And the second one, Waiting on the Lord. Some members may have seen this in the SBHR brochure, which is the theme for SBHR 2024. It comes from Isaiah chapter 40, verse 31 AV. I have included here the last few verses of chapter 31. (NKJ) 28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the LORD, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. 29 He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength. 30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, 31 But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint. Isaiah is asking a question, “Have you not known or heard?” This is something the Israelites were to do that is to talk about God and His law to their families. Deuteronomy 6 4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. 5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the door-frames of your houses and on your gates. Isaiah was reminding them that God is the Creator, and the Everlasting God. He is always aware of what is going on as the Psalmist says. In Psalm 121 He will not let your foot slip—he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. So surely, we can trust him, so let us wait upon the Lord. We do get tired and weary, certainly I do, none of us are getting any younger. Some of us in the Fellowship carry a lot of responsibilities, but let us look to the Lord, that we may be able to run and not be weary. For SBHR 2024 there is a lot of work to do in preparation and set up. Pray that the small team will be able to complete all the tasks. Pray too for the day-today running of SBHR and that the activities will run smoothly. Pray each day for those responsible for each activity e.g. speakers’ youth and children’s workers and those working behind the scenes running SBHR. Why not come and join SBHR this May? There & &
7 is a daily prayer time 08:00 for 1 hour; this was well attended last year. Come and pray with us as we ‘Wait on the Lord.’ The meetings and activities are arranged for you and your family. Come to as many or few as your like. There will be opportunities for you to volunteer and help during SBHR look for the sign-up sheets on the hub. For those working with children, everyone should have their valid DBS checked and confirmed before arrival. If you would like to volunteer for such groups please check with Angela first, as you cannot volunteer without a valid DBS chairman@ cccf.org.uk. Whatever your plans are, may the Lord bless you in fellowship with him and fellow Christians ‘Waiting on the Lord.’ Remember, Christ is the answer. Now returning to my first thought from above: Christ is the answer to my every need; Christ is the answer, He is my friend indeed. Problems of life my spirit may assail, with Christ my Saviour I need never fail, for Christ is the answer to my need. 8 Booking for a rally notice It has recently come to light that some rally bookings were not received by the rally organiser. This was an Easter rally that had been cancelled because of a waterlogged site, and not everyone was aware that this had been cancelled because of missed rally booking. The wording has been updated as shown below, so that rally organisers and those booking rallies are clear and up to date, so that the correct number of pitches can be laid out, or in the event of a site cancellation those who have booked in on a rally are informed. BOOKING FOR A RALLY It is helpful and considerate to those involved if, whenever possible, you can complete both the following steps at least fourteen days before the rally date. Please do not just turn up at a rally without first confirming with the rally organiser. 1. Send a SAE or email to the organiser to obtain the Rally Notice and a booking form, or book online. We will endeavour to send confirmation once your online booking is received. 2. Once you receive the information, complete the booking form, and return it to the organiser. Confirmation of the booking should be given by the rally organiser within a few days. If you are unsure that your booking has been received, please check with the rally organiser. You would, however, be informed if the site is full and your reservation cannot be accepted. Please do not attempt to make direct contact with the site owner - just ring up the rally organiser if you are thinking about going, to express an interest - even if you cannot commit yourself then, rather than a rally being cancelled. 3. Please indicate on the booking form any special need(s) you have in your family unit. Rally organisers. Please advise and reply to those booking rallies as soon as practically possible. If not booking on the website, blank rally forms are available from the publications section of the website, but you need to be registered with website to access this. Note: Not all rallies are available to book online. Alternatively, you can request a blank rally booking form from rallies@cccf.org.uk Paul Paul Hannay National Rally Officer & &

10 for a General Secretary to enable Paul Hannay, our current National Rally Officer and Interim General Secretary, to be released from this extra responsibility. As I’m currently National Treasurer, with David Lynn as Assistant Treasurer, I have spoken to David about this too. He has advised that he is willing to take back the role of National Treasurer in the short term (1-2 years) I’ve spoken to Paul Wells and we’ve discussed the position and my suitably to stand in this position. He is confident that I have the relevant qualifications, character and experience to carry it out. Having sought God’s guidance prayerfully, I believe this role better suits me. He is giving me the go ahead to trust Him and serve you again in a different role, bearing in mind that I am still employed and won’t retire for 5 more years, God Willing. Qualifications/experience: In 1990 I gained a BTech National Diploma in Business and Finance (with Distinctions), covering subjects such as accounts, bookkeeping, insurance, marketing and business law. I went on to qualify as a solicitor, having gained a 2:1 Bachelor of Laws and post grad Legal Practice Course Course and practiced law for Borough of Poole Legal Services in contract law from 1997 - 2005. Although not currently practicing, I still have the legal skills, in drafting and understanding legal documents and knowledge which would help in understanding the charitable status of CCCF and the role of General Secretary. I went on to become their Practice Manager - responsible for considerable budgets for training 20 staff. This role required an amount of diplomacy and tact but also required me to take a firm hand when necessary. Other committee experience: In 2011, I joined Kairos Prison Ministry UK, also a charity and was nominated to sit on the regional committee as Treasurer and Accommodation officer for our first few missions into HMP Whitemoor. This was not a trustee position. I was Chairman of the regional committee for HMP Stocken for several years. We recruited, fundraised, planned and resourced and attended annual missions; subject to operational and financial standing orders. I also sat on the UK Board as Advance Kairos Trainer. It’s likely I will no longer be able to serve in the same way as missions are not held in school holidays. Finally, Paul Wells is always there for advice. 13 CCCF car badges continued... Since the last article in Newsline I am pleased to have received more information about the car badges, thanks to Wes Groves: We received our Newsline last weekend and I was interested in your article concerning the metal badges realising that I had some knowledge of the history. The badges were produced by a friend of mine, Malcolm Beamond who grew up through the ministries of our local church Falcon Lodge Chapel. Towards the end of our teen years we went our separate ways although Malcolm’s sister was still an active member of our church and would keep us updated with any important news about her brother. My next encounter with Malcolm was in the mid ‘70’s when I moved job to an engineering company in Lichfield and discovered Malcolm also worked there. Malcolm knew of my involvement with CCCF and decided to join the Fellowship. Soon after, he offered to produce a limited edition of metal badges which looked nicely balanced on members car grilles – AA badge one side and CCCF badge the other. Malcolm was an avid car restorer (sort of Car SOS style) and his engineering skills were/ are considerable. So, on reading your Newsline article I contacted Malcolm who sent me the attached response. To answer the other question in your article, the grand marquee uphill march was at Weston Park SBHR in May 1979 and is described on page 13 of the ‘Celebrating 50 years of CCCF’ booklet. Wes Wesley Groves From Malcolm: I remember them very well indeed. As you may remember at Norgren there was a hot brass stamping section, [incidentally Enots were the first to discover this process] where billets of brass were heated in furnaces, put between two dies, and stamped into the appropriate shape, whether it would be an elbow or tee piece or a filler cap and many other different shapes and sizes. I had the idea whilst we were with CCCF of making some car badges, so I obtained two scrap dies and took them home where I had a very simple but robust lathe. I turned the basic shape out into the die, and when I was happy with that, took it back to the maintenance department where I worked. Here we had a Bridgeport miller and I was able to produce the cross in the centre with the CCCF letters underneath. Beneath & &
14 and either side of the cross I formed a tent on one side and a caravan on the other. The next stage was tricky as I wanted to stamp ‘Caravanners and Campers Christian Fellowship’ into the outer rim. This had to be done by hand, and because the stamping process produced a reverse impression, had to be done with reverse letter stamps and stamped in reverse into the outer rim by hand. This was the trickiest part of the project, but I was pleased with the result. Afterwards, the guys, in the stamp shop gathered up some scrap billets, and when they had a free hour or so, set my dies up, heated the billets and stamped out the badges. After stamping there is always ‘flashing’ or excess material around the edges, so I took them home, put them back in the lathe and skimmed off the flashing. Next I had to drill and tap the two bosses to receive the threaded rods for the mounting. To finish off, I sprayed them with an etching primer, then sprayed the background white, and by hand touched up the cross and the lettering by hand in red. Apart from making some knurled nuts to attach the badges to your radiator grill, they were finished. There was a sequel to the project in as much as I had recently built a Spartan kit car, and we were on our way a CCCF rally, towing our trailer tent and bringing a box full of badges with me. Unfortunately, when we got as far as Market Harborough, I came to slow up in a queue of traffic and nothing happened, and we careered into the car in front, pushing them into two further cars. Our trailer tent jackknifed and turned on its side still attached to the car, and camping equipment spilled out everywhere on the main road. It looked like carnage as you can imagine, but neither of us were hurt, but I think Kerry the dog was a little shaken up. We managed to retrieve all the equipment we could to the side of the road and a small garden nursery allowed us to leave our wrecked car and camping trailer in their driveway. We got a lift in a police car back into Market Harborough and managed to find someone who could rent us a car so that we could get home. For some reason we took the badges back with us along with one or two personal possessions, and a friend that I worked with, Mike Farbrace, who was also going to the rally, took the badges for me as he was leaving later the next day. So there you have it, that’s as best as I can remember it. Blessings, Malcolm Malcolm Beamond & &
Regional Roundup... Unfortunately, due to the ongoing weather conditions and the wetness of the New Forest, the decision had to be made to cancel the SW Easter weekend rally at Ravery Field in Nomansland near Salisbury as we were concerned about ground conditions and vans getting stuck. We are thankful to the site owners Ray and Sue Avery who were very gracious in accepting this at the last moment, and for all their kindness to CCCF over many years. Naturally we were all disappointed not to be together for the weekend, but Tim and Joy Drake were able to host an informal get together at their home South West Easter Rally in Marchwood on Easter Saturday, and many of the members who were booked for the weekend were able to join together for a chat and a bring and share supper. Sorry to those who were too far away to come for the day. We were in good company as we had our new SW Regional Chair, Noreen with us who also tried out a new chair for her elevated position! 15 We hope everyone enjoyed a blessed Easter, even if it was not what we had planned.
