Introduction to Principles of Design

• In this PowerPoint presentation, I will be discussing
the elements of Principles of Design and talk about
how they are used, also, I will be using examples to
farther get my points across.

• An element of art used to define shape, contours,
and outlines; also to suggest mass and volume. It
may be a continuous mark made on a surface with
a pointed tool or implied by the edges of shapes
and forms.

• When a line crosses itself or intersects with other
lines to enclose a space, it creates a shape. Shape is
two-dimensional and has height and width, but no
depth.

• It’s counter-intuitive to think about texture when
the piece isn’t ever going to be touched. Websites
and graphic design do rely on the look and
impression of texture on the screen.

• Color comes from light - if it weren't for light, we
would have no color. Light rays move in a straight
path from a light source. Within this light, rays
include all of the colors in the spectrum or rainbow.
