Would you like to play a role in the continued success of our Recreation Department? We are currently seeking individuals
interested in joining our “Friends of Billerica Recreation” committee. This committee is an integral part in ensuring our ability
to grow our special events, and seek alternative funding sources to keep such events at a minimum cost. Additionally, funds

raised by the Friends are used to directly fund our Financial Aid/Scholarship opportunities for residents in need. A
commitment to becoming a Friend simply consists of attending occasional meetings, and a willingness to volunteer at our

special events. If you’re passionate about our department and would like to be a part of continuing to take Billerica
Recreation to the next level, please let us know! Those with interest in learning more are encouraged to contact Recreation

Summer Inclusion Program

Here at Billerica Rec, we believe all children should have equal access to recreation programs, regardless of
ability. We are working hard to build a team of inclusion support staff to help facilitate summer programs for

children who may require additional attention to participate successfully.
If your child has a disability, an IEP or 504 plan at school then this may be an appropriate option for them!

There is no additional fee for inclusion support within programs your child is already registered for.
Please reach out to Laurel at lrossiter@town.billerica.ma.us to apply or with any questions you may have

about our emerging inclusion program or how we may be able to support your child.

What is Therapeutic Recreation?

Therapeutic Recreation, also known as TR or Rec Therapy, is the practice of using leisure and
recreation to improve quality of life and functioning across all domains for people with disabling

conditions and different abilities.
Here at Billerica Recreation Department, we are excited to begin building a Community TR
Division. Therapeutic Recreation in the community can look like a variety of different things, but
our vision for the future includes adaptive programs for all ages, inclusion support services,
specialized summer programs, and sensory friendly components to our larger scale family events.

Please reach out to our Assistant Director, Laurel Rossiter, CTRS with questions, program or event
ideas, staffing and coaching opportunities, or to see if our current opportunities are a good fit for

your family member! Email: lrossiter@town.billerica.ma.us

Leisure Adventure Club (Ages 18+ with a disability)

LAC includes social activities and community outings for older teens and adults that are designed specifically to
accommodate those with cognitive, developmental, or physical impairments. Programs are led by qualified
Billerica Recreation staff members. Staff to participant ratio will not exceed 1:6.
Intake assesment and conversation with our CTRS is required prior to initial participation.
Please see online forms for guidelines for participation or contact us for more information.
