ENGLISH STORYTELLING COMPETITION

SJKC OF SEPANG DISTRICT 2021

1. OBJECTIVES :
a) To instill the importance of the English language among pupils and to

raise their competency.
b) To foster better relationships between the teachers and pupils.
c) To enhance pupils’ confidence in using English.
d) To give pupils the opportunity to use English in an interesting, authentic

and creative manner.
e) To enhance and improve listening and speaking skills.

2. ENTRY QUALIFICATION :
a) All existing Chinese primary school pupils are eligible to participate.

3. PARTICIPATION :
This competition is open to all pupils from Chinese primary schools in
Sepang district.
- Maximum 2 pupils per school.
Allocation of time :
- Every participant is given 5 minutes. If time is exceeded, one mark
will be deducted for every 30 seconds. Timing starts when the
contestant starts his/her story.

4. ADJUDICATION :

5. JUDGES :
a) To be decided by the respective committee.
b) The judges will watch all the contestants’ videos on 27 Oct 2021

(Wednesday).
c) The judges’ decision is final. No appeal is allowed.

6. PRIZES :
District Competition: 1st – 3rd place, 5 Distinction awards and 6 Merit

awards.

7. REGISTRATION AND VIDEO SUBMISSION DATE :
a) Closing date for form submission : 18th OCTOBER 2021 (Monday)
b) The registration form must be submitted along with the story script.
c) Story script must be typed with Arial font, size 12 with 1.5 spacing in PDF

format. Numbers and names of the contestants must be noted at the upper
right corner.
d) Video submission deadline - 26th OCTOBER 2021 (Tuesday)
Write down the number and name of the contestant as in the example : No
5 Louis Wong upon sending the video.
e) All registration forms, story scripts and video recordings must be uploaded

in Google Classroom. CLASS CODE: 76deklu

8. RULES AND REGULATIONS :
a) Competition will be conducted online.
b) Time allocated to present the story is 4 to 5 minutes only.
c) The performance must be recorded and saved in MP4 format. Make sure

the video quality is clear and audible.
d) Contestants are NOT ALLOWED TO EDIT the video recording.
e) Apple Green/white background in landscape orientation must be used in

video recording. The use of microphone stands and wireless microphone is
permitted.
f) Contestants should be at a distance of 2 metres from the camera during the
recording in order to see the full body of the contestants.
g) Contestants must wear school uniforms. They are not allowed to wear
lounge suits, ties or bow.
h) Contestants are not allowed to use props, pictures or cardboards.
i) Contestants’ numbers must be worn properly and do not indicate the
identity of the school.

9. ANNOUNCEMENT OF RESULT/ JUDGE PANEL REVIEW :
The results will be announced on 30th October 2021 (Saturday)

10. OTHERS
The organizing committee reserves the right to add, delete or amend the
above regulations where necessary. The decision of the organizing committee
is final.
