คาํ บุพบท (prepositions)
คือคาํ ที่โยงคาํ นาม นามวลี หรือคาํ สรรพนามเขา้ กบั คาํ อื่น ๆ เพื่อแสดงความสมั พนั ธ์เก่ียวเนื่องกนั
เช่น on, in, under, at, between
6.1 ประเภทของคาํ บพุ บท คาํ บุพบทแบ่งเป็นประเภทต่าง ๆ ดงั น้ี
6.1.1 คาํ บพุ บทบอกสถานท่ี (prepositions of place) เช่น at, on, in, etc.
ตัวอย่าง

Jane is at home.
6.1.2 คาํ บพุ บทบอกตาํ แหน่ง (prepositions of position) เช่น above, beneath,
behind, in front of, etc.
ตัวอย่าง

There is a big tree in front of Jane’s house.
6.1.3 คาํ บพุ บทบอกการเคล่ือนไหว (prepositions of motion) เช่น through,
into, towards, out of, away from, etc.
ตวั อย่าง

Ann is driving into the parking lot.
6.1.4 คาํ บพุ บทบอกทิศทาง (prepositions of direction) เช่น up, down,
across, along, etc.

Jane is walking along Chaeng Watthana Road.

before, etc.

ประเดน็ สาํ คญั เก่ียวกบั การใชค้ าํ บุพบท มีดงั น้ี
6.2.1 การใชค้ าํ บุพบทใหถ้ ูกตอ้ งมกั ตอ้ งอาศยั การสงั เกตและจดจาํ วา่ ในสถานการณ์
น้นั ๆ จะตอ้ งใชค้ าํ บุพบทคาํ ใด เช่น เม่ือกล่าวถึงวนั ตอ้ งใชค้ าํ บุพบท on เมื่อกล่าวถึงเดือน ตอ้ ง
ใชค้ าํ บุพบท in เป็นตน้ ดงั ตวั อยา่ งต่อไปน้ี

I study English on Monday.

6.2.2 ถึงแมว้ า่ คาํ บุพบทแต่ละคาํ จะมีความหมายของตวั เอง แต่คาํ บุพบทมกั ถูกนาํ ไปใชค้ ู่

The Crow and the Pitcher

Once upon a time A CROW perishing with thirst saw a pitcher, and
hoping to find water, flew to it with delight. When he reached it, he
discovered to his grief that it contained so little water that he could
not possibly get at it. He tried everything he could think of to reach
the water, but all his efforts were in vain. At last he collected as many
stones as he could carry and dropped them one by one with his beak
into the pitcher, until he brought the water within his reach and thus
saved his life.

เหยอื กสูงข้ึน อีกาใชจ้ ะงอยปากของมนั กินน้าํ ในเหยอื กไดส้ าํ เร็จ ดงั น้นั มนั จึงมีชีวิตรอด ไม่ตอ้ งอดน้าํ ตาย

Moral = Where there is a will, there is a way. เมื่อเรากลา้ ท่ีจะทาํ กม็ กั จะมีทางออก
เสมอ
