• An asteroid is a chunk of rock and
metal in outer space that is in orbit
around the Sun.
• The asteroid belt is located between
the planets Mars and Jupiter.
5. METEOROID
• A meteoroid is a chunk of rock or
metal from space that falls
through the atmosphere, or layer
of gases, surrounding Earth.
• Most meteoroids burn up in the
atmosphere. BULAN
6. METEOR

atmosphere (or that of another
planet, like Mars) at high speed

• When a meteoroid survives a trip
through the atmosphere and hits
the ground, it’s called a
meteorite.
7. COMET
• A celestial object consisting of a
nucleus of ice and dust and, when
near the sun, a ‘tail’ of gas and dust
particles pointing away from the sun.
• When a comet's orbit brings it close
to the Sun, it heats up and spews BULAN
dust and gases into a giant glowing
head larger than most planets.
