BIOLOGY DEPARTMENT
Kendriya Vidyalaya, CRPF, Gandhinagar, since the
commencement, has always paid premium to
innovation and technology. Our Vidyalaya boasts of
a highly equipped and well-stocked biology
laboratory. The idea is to enable hands on learning
by the students, “Learning by doing” being the
motto of our bio lab.
The laboratory provides the students with all sorts of
facilities, ranging from specimens to innovative smart
boards. The laboratory is quite spacious and is
decorated by the Charts. We have permanent
anatomical slides of plants and Animals.
The lab consists of simple and compound
microscopes for the students to focus and study
slides. The ratio of these microscopes per student is
fairly high. We have measuring devices, like
analytical balance. Also, the laboratory has a variety
of apparatus for physiological and ecological
VIDYALAYA PATRIKA -2021 KENDRIYA VIDYALAYA CRPF, GANDHINAGAR Page 2
experiments, like water bath, oven and Digital PH Meter. We have fire extinguishers in case
of an emergency.
The laboratory is well supplied with chemicals, and equipped
abundantly with thermometers and other apparatus for students
to carry out their experiments.
Through experiments, students are able to gain firsthand
knowledge and appreciate various concepts of biology. Our
biology laboratory is a not only very important resource input for
teaching science but also an important predictor of academic
achievement.
CHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT
Study is "the process of applying the mind in order to acquire
knowledge" so study skills are learning skills that are also thinking skills
when study includes "careful attention to, and critical examination and
investigation of, a subject."
Steps to make Chemistry students friendly:
To teach study skills- Study skills not only help students succeed academically,
it will also help them do well in life.
Facilitate students in memorising & understanding concepts and also to know the
difference between memorising and understanding.
Students must know about how Chemistry Course is Structured
Learning Chemistry requires persistence, concentration, discipline, patience and
lots and lots of practice.
Students must be attuned to the cumulative nature of chemistry-
Chemistry progresses from the simple to the complex, building upon existing
knowledge at each stage.
To encourage them for the reading before lecture so the classroom experience
will reinforce what you learned from the textbook.
Give students a positive outlook.
Reading with purpose -As you read, highlight important information, so that
you can find it again later
To encourage them for Relaying information to other people which helps them to
understand it better.
Learn through seeing.
learn best through a hands-on activity and exploring the physical world around
them,
Emphasize conceptual understanding over procedure.
Create flashcards and study outlines so they will use during free moments
to learn equations, master terminology, identify compounds and test your
VIDYALAYA PATRIKA -2021 KENDRIYA VIDYALAYA CRPF, GANDHINAGAR Page 3
knowledge.
Chemistry is a challenge so by making a study group with some classmates.
Studying will be more fun, and members of the group will help motivate each
other.
Create diagrams or mnemonics to help you remember material. Use a three-
dimensional model to help you visualize a molecule.
Mental visualization is important to check whether you remember the formulas or
not.
How to learn Chemistry-
Learn the Basics- Practice and repeat
To learn laws and to make an Expression or Word mnemonic, the first letter of
each item in a list is arranged to form a phrase or word.
Example- Henry's Law
To remember good old Hank, remember the bubbles in the shaken Coke
you drank
To give them Expression or Word Mnemonic like for-
Group 1 is known as alkali metals Mnemonic for Group 1-
LiNa Ki Ruby Cse Friendship hai.
Mnemonic for Period 5
Yaar Zahir Noball Morega To Rahul Ro Padega Agarkar cadmium
For Memorizing Inorganic Reactions
First, write down all the reactions for a single group under the sub-headings of
the type of reactions (not the elements), & then proceed to the next group
followed by a summary for revision
IUPAC Nomenclature Demystified with A Simple Puzzle Piece Approach
The so-called smart students are not the ones with higher IQs. They are
the ones who have mastered the art of studying efficiently

Mystery of Sixty-Four Squares- Khushal Vanjara (Class-XI Science)
Chess is a board game with 64 squares in a big Square. It is played between
Two Players. The current form of the game emerged in Southern Europe during the
second half of the 15th century. Today Chess has become popular game played by
Millions of players all around the world.
Chess is a game with certain basic rules and regulations. Its uniformity is a basic
character of the discipline. I mean to say that it follows a set of deep basic rules
such as Rook will only move horizontally and vertically no other directions are
allowed. Similarly, bishop will move diagonally.
These are all fixed.
It is game played open mindedly and peacefully.
It is the game which makes one sportsman as
well as an all-rounder person who learns to deal
with hard phases of life.
Chess is not always about winning but
sometimes it is simply learning and that’s what
life really is. Chess makes a man mentally calm
and cool. One who is player of chess will never
lag behind in his/her life as he/she is thought to
face every tough row to hoe. In chess it is said
that it follows Newton’s third law of Gravity,
every action has equal and opposite reaction
such every attack has equal and opposite defence. So, let’s assume the chess as the
life, opponent’s attack is problem …… and our defence to the attack is the solution
of the problem.
Now I would like to share my experience about how chess helps me in my life. First
of all, chess is very important part of my life. It has given me a good name and also
a good temperament. It teaches me about how to deal with difficult situations.
When I feel stressed I start playing chess it fills me with joy and happiness. It
refreshes my mind and fills me with endurance. It also has given me good friends I
have made during KVS Nationals each time I went. The reason of my success is
mainly devoted to my parents, teachers and then comes to chess whose lessons are
always with me all the time.
“Life is like a game of chess, to win you have to make a move knowing which move
to make comes with Insight and knowledge

Believe, It’s True - Pritama (Class-XI Humanities)
Just Believe in Yourself and Your Dreams.
Every goal that has ever been accomplished, began with just one
step.... and the belief that it could be attained. Dreams really can
come true, but they are most often the result of hard work,
determination and persistence. When the end of the journey
seems impossible to reach, all you need to do is take one more
step. Stay focused on your goal and remember that each small
step will bring you a little closer. When the road becomes hard to
travel and it feels as if you'll never reach the end. Look inside your
heart and you will find strength you never know you have it.
Self-belief generates great confidence that continuously propels you towards your
destination.
Is Honesty the best Policy Today? - Chaitanya Ragho Patil (Class-XI Science)
With life changing for worse, the old saying 'Honesty is the best policy' seems to have lost
its shine and value. The reason appears that in this era, majority of people support
dishonesty. We know that most of ministers are corrupted; even government officials.
Many of poverty-stricken people are not able to survive even though Government proclaims
that poverty-stricken people are getting rations and even
mid-day meal, but the state level or city level ministers
use the money of poor people for themselves. We all
know it but we are still quiet. Yes, I agree with that, that
in several states poor people do get their daily essentials
but what about remaining? Thus, it is felt that the
sentence " Honesty is best policy " is losing its shine but
hasn't lost its true meaning even in this Kalayuga.
I firmly believe that together we should all move ahead and make this sentence shine again.

Life is a cricket - Vipul Raj (Class-XI Science)
Let’s begin our innings,
With a beautiful outswing.
Life moves as a cycling ring,
It moves continuously
Next can be a fantastic in-swing,
May create some trouble
Thus, defend it correctly,
Because survival is the most important thing.
An unexpected bouncer may come suddenly,
Duck it with ease.
‘I can face this challenge’
In this, we must believe.
A golden opportunity may knock at you,
In the form of full toss.
Grab it with both hands,
Or it will be a great loss for you.
Next can be a juicy volley,
Obviously, you will have to accept it.
But don’t get into greed,
Because failure is the cause of it.
You can hit Yorkers in
stands,
You will have great fame.
But if you miss it,
You’re out of the game.
If life gives you another chance as a free hit,
Strike the ball extremely hard with the bat,
And achieve the victory,
You’ve always dreamed of.

My Childhood! Golden Days! -Nikhilesh (Class-XI Science)
Oh! My Childhood days
Running through the bays,
In the morning days,
Finding ways,
Through the shining
rays,
In my childhood days.
My elders tell me about
it,
And I also remember a bit.
The time when I was too innocent,
The time which was superb and excellent.
Life was then exciting and all daring,
But now, it is becoming boring.
I cannot forget those days of mine,
In darkness of my life, like the jewels that
shines.
By chance, due to good deeds of mine,
If god will ask for my wish at that time.
I would wish to become smart and good
but my first preference will be my childhood.
Nature: Gentle Mother-Prutha Shukla (Class-XII Science)
It was a beautiful day,
I was sitting on green grass
Near me was a lake
It reflected the Sun.
I always believe that Sun is a symbol of power,
But Moon oh that beautiful Moon,
Symbolizes the light of hope
Assures us that there is light even in the darkest
times.
Nature is strong but Gentle at the same time
Look how gently Nature heals the fragile souls of
people.

Oh Teacher-My Pillar, My strength -Mayuri Nayak (Class-XII Science)
Oh teacher – my pillar, my strength
Like a child learning to stand with help of a pillar,
I rise in this world with help of my teacher.
Parents brought me to this world,
My teacher makes me know the world.
What interest do they have beyond my
comprehension?
All I can think is a smile in their heart on my success.
Their feeling for me is no less than of parents.
Full of honest intents.
My success is their success,
My achievement is their achievement,
Oh teacher – my pillar, my strength.
Power of an artist -Jaynika (Class-XI Science)
In today’s world there are many ways to entertain yourself like music, dance, play in
theatre and many more. In my point of view these things are lifeless until and unless an
artist puts his efforts into his art work. An artist is soul to his art piece.
An artist’s work is not only to entertain the mass in front of him
but also to educate the society. And an intelligent artist does it
by sensing his surroundings by observing the details of the world
around him. During this process, a person has to stop for a while
from his busy life and appreciate the things for which we have
been ungrateful through our life. This process connects a person
more to his spiritual side. After this process, an artist tends to
convert his emotions into a presentable form to reveal the truth
that is either hidden or universally unknown. This not only
increase the knowledge of an artist but it also increases knowledge of the spectator
who is somehow connected to the art work. An artist helps the society to think from a
different angle.
Now my dear readers let me prove my point by a beautiful example of Aravani Art
Project. A Bengaluru based art project started by Poornima Sukumar. Aravani Art
Project uses street art to celebrate and empower the transgender community. The idea
behind this initiative is to eliminate social stigma, discrimination, violence and
harassment towards the trans community, who actively take part in painting walls on
the streets so that people know them by their talent and treat them with respect. The
idea is for people from other communities to accept the trans community just the way
they are, as humans.

Getting Granny’s Glasses –Yug Thakkar (Class-VI)
Hello dear friends, I am Yug Thakkar from class VI-A. My hobby is to read different
books.
I have had a great opportunity to read a heart touching short story book ‘Getting
Granny’s Glasses’ written by Ruskin Bond. He is a famous author and has written over
500 ‘short essays and novels and more than 40 books for children.
In this story, there is a boy named ‘Mani’ who wants to
get a new pair of glasses for his dearest granny. He loves
her granny very much. With her old pair of glasses, she
couldn’t see clearly. She couldn’t see the distant river,
trees and even her grandson clearly. She could make out
the presence of her grandson from his fuzzy hair. And
sometimes when he was very close, the gleam of his
teeth when he smiled.
Mani’s granny is seventy and can barely see through her
old, scratched glasses with only a hundred and fifty
rupees in their pockets and thirst for adventure, Mani and
granny set off to buy a new pair. On the way they get
drenched in the rain, and encounter a landslide.
Finally, Mani could take her to the eye checkup. The doctor examined her and gave her
a new pair of glasses. When granny saw Mani, she felt that she saw Mani for the first
time in many years. Mani was also very happy to see her granny observing everything.
There is a beautiful description of their journey from their village to the next mountain
in Mussoorie.

The man is the most dangerous animal – Deepshikha (Class-XII Science)
Let us start with the fact, “The Bronx zoo had an exhibit called the most dangerous
animal in the world”. It was a mirror. Undoubtedly, it was a bitter truth, a man is the
most intelligent but selfish person. You never know what’s going in the mind of the
person sitting just behind you.
A man can be silent, A man can be loud
A man can be happy, A man can be sad
A man can love, A man can kill
A man can be kind, A man can be evil
Too many faces and just one person. It’s the harsh reality that
we humans have killed more of our kinds and destroyed our
planet earth.
Gandhiji has rightly said that -
“There’s enough for everyone’s need but not for everyone’s
greed”.
The greed inside us can never satisfy until and unless we
understand that what we have is enough and we should respect it.
BE HAPPY AND SPREAD KINDNESS.

School Safety- Mrs. Nalni Jad (PRT)
School safety means creating a safe environment for children.
A safe and secure environment is a prerequisite for an effective teaching and learning
process. A school building should be safe for the children, there
should be proper and clean toilets for boys and girls, safe
drinking water, well ventilated classrooms etc. are a must.
Then comes emotional and personal safety. Schools should
hold regular health check-ups and should be ready to handle
medical emergencies. In a safe school child should be safe
against sexual abuse. Awareness programs are to be
conducted to sensitize students on child abuse to make them aware regarding
preventive steps to be taken against child sexual abuse. In addition to all this, a child
needs love, encouragement and support from teachers. Such positive reinforcement
helps to emerge a strong sense of self worth, confidence and the determination to keep
going even when things are tough. All the criteria mentioned above are fulfilled by our
kendriya vidyalaya schools. Thus our schools are safe schools and we should feel proud
to be part of kendriya vidyalaya schools.

Vedic Maths- Mrs. Bhavana Sutariya (PGT-Maths)
VEDIC MATHS:
a) Vedic is a Sanskrit word, the root word being Vid.
b) It means knowledge; Ved means knowing all without limit.
c) Vedic mathematics consists of Sutras to solve mathematical problems easily
and speedily.
d) The name Vedic signifies its origin as Vedas.
e) Of the 4 Vedas, Vedic mathematics is part of Atharva Veda, the 4th Veda
Veda is all-embracing i.e., Engineering, mathematics, science, medicine, and
sculpture, etc.
Benefits of Vedic Maths:
a) It helps a person to solve mathematical problems many times faster
b) It helps in making intelligent decisions to both simple and complex problems
c) It reduces the burden of memorizing difficult concepts
d) It increases the concentration of a child and his determination to learn and
develop his/her skills
e) It helps in reducing silly mistakes which are often created by kids
f) Vedic mathematics tricks are beneficial in competitive examination.
g) Though it is outdated, it is helpful to solve mathematical problems mentally
and easily.
h) Vedic mathematics covers applications to arithmetical calculations, number
theory, algebraic equations, simultaneous equations, partial fractions,
calculus, square root, cube root, coordinate geometry etc.
SOME CALCULATION TRICKS FROM VEDIC MATH:
1. Adding large numbers-
Adding large numbers just in your head can be difficult. This method shows
how to simplify this process by making all the numbers a multiple of 10.
Here is an example: 644 + 238
While these numbers are hard to contend with, rounding them up will make
them more manageable. So, 644 becomes 650 and 238 becomes 240.
Now, add 650 and 240 together. The total is 890. To find the answer to the
original equation, it must be determined how much we added to the numbers
to round them up.
650 – 644 = 6 and 240 – 238 = 2
Now, add 6 and 2 together for a total of 8
To find the answer to the original equation, 8 must be subtracted from the
890. (890 – 8 = 882)
So the answer to 644 +238 is 882.
VIDYALAYA PATRIKA -2021 KENDRIYA VIDYALAYA CRPF, GANDHINAGAR Page 35
2. Subtracting from 1,000
Here’s a basic rule to subtract a large number from 1,000: Subtract every
number except the last from 9 and subtract the final number from 10
For example: 1,000 – 556
Step 1: Subtract 5 from 9 = 4
Step 2: Subtract 5 from 9 = 4
Step 3: Subtract 6 from 10 = 4
The answer is 444.
3. Multiplying 5 times any number
When multiplying the number 5 by an even number, there is a quick way to
find the answer.
For example, 5 x 4 =
Step 1: Take the number being multiplied by 5 and cut it in half, this makes
the number 4 become the number 2.
Step 2: Add a zero to the number to find the answer. In this case, the
answer is 20.
5 x 4 = 20
When multiplying an odd number of times 5, the formula is a bit different.
For instance, consider 5 x 3.
Step 1: Subtract one from the number being multiplied by 5, in this instance
the number 3 becomes the number 2.
Step 2: Now halve the number 2, which makes it the number 1. Make 5 the
last digit. The number produced is 15, which is the answer.
5 x 3 = 15
4. Division tricks
Here’s a quick trick in Maths to know when a number can be evenly divided
by these certain numbers:
10 if the number ends in 0
9 when the digits are added together and the total is evenly divisible by 9
8 if the last three digits are evenly divisible by 8 or are 000
6 if it is an even number and when the digits are added together the answer
is evenly divisible by 3
5 if it ends in a 0 or 5
4 if it ends in 00 or a two digit number that is evenly divisible by 4
3 when the digits are added together and the result is evenly divisible by the
number 3
2 if it ends in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8
VIDYALAYA PATRIKA -2021 KENDRIYA VIDYALAYA CRPF, GANDHINAGAR Page 36
5. Tough multiplication
When multiplying large numbers, if one of the numbers is even, divide the
first number in half, and then double the second number. This method will
solve the problem quickly.
For instance, consider 20 x 120
Step 1: Divide the 20 by 2, which equals 10. Double 120, which equals 240.
Then multiply your two answers together.
10 x 240 = 2400
The answer to 20 x 120 is 2,400.
