1. Speeches are given to a group of people. They are given at certain functions. Such as
school assembly, meetings and other such social occasions.

2. However, talks are often given to students for a particular purpose, either to inform or to
educate them.

3. Speeches must be to the point and interesting enough to hold / grab the attention of the
audience.

4. Usually, for speeches, we will use simple sentences to suit our audience. So that the
audience understand clearly of the speeches.

5. As for speech preparation, you need to organise your ideas in a way that enables the
audience / listener to follow and understand what you are saying.

6. Basically, we present each idea in a new paragraph.
7. Once your draft is ready, check for the spelling and grammatical errors.
8. Before you deliver your speech, you must practice your speech several times.
9. Next, begin your speech by greeting the audience and informing them on the purpose of

the talk.
10. In the opening of your speeches, you must greet the audience first and tell them the

purpose of your speech/talk.
11. Greet your audience in order of importance. For example: Greet your principal first before

teachers and fellow students. *Good morning to the Principal, teachers and fellow
students."
12. As for the speeches, you need to speak slowly and clearly.
13. In speeches, we must speak clearly and slowly if possible. Don't rush through the points of
your speech. Take your time.
14. Don't forget to thank your audience at the end of your speech.
15. As for the speeches writing, normally we write in the present tense.
16. Remember, when delivering your speech, your body language tone and expression are all
very important. Smile!
