Historians–Bringing the Past to the Present

Teachers Collaborating: Combining Art and Social Studies!

Mrs. Toon shares how she and Mrs. Sherry Darnell, the art teacher collaborated on this historical based lesson that incorpo-
rates artwork. “Ms. Sherry came to me and asked me if we could do something with my class. I assigned each student in my
home room a historical figure to research. Then they made presentation boards and came up with a script and costumes to be
used in an interactive museum setting. They then presented to the other fifth-grade classes,” explained Susie Toon, 5th grade
Social Studies teacher.

“We have been studying geometry standards
this week in class and a fun activity is always
what you need when studying geometry. The
students were surprised to come into the class-

tape all over it! They could not figure out what
we were going to do. Finally, I let them in on

Wingo Weather Watchers Have a New Electronic Weather Station

We have a new electronic weather sta-
tion at Wingo. This equipment will col-
lect rain, measure wind speed, and wind
direction, and provide temperature and
humidity. Students/classes can use this
to collect data for science and math ac-
tivities. According to Debbie Samples,
Special Education Teacher, students will
have the opportunity to check weather
data on a regular basis. They can use
that data to learn how to graph infor-
mation and compare data as well as
study weather trends in our local area.

The indoor information monitor is located in
the front office and is easily accessible to stu-
dents and teachers. Weekly weather an-
nouncements are given by students on
Wednesday mornings. This monitor will allow
our students to accurately report current
weather conditions.
