Project Proposal

My project will discuss the current United States President’s Donald Trump and
his perceived desire for war. I will use the photo from the website
thewallpapers.org, The Statue of Liberty, to argue that Trump has a disparaging
cavalier attitude regarding acts of war. Highlighting his attitude and his recent
actions towards North Korea coupled with his inability to handle the truth thus,
explaining why he is the most lethal person on the planet and needs to be kept in
check.

Graham, Allison. “High stakes: Can Trump and Xi avoid war and strike a North Korea deal?”
Time. Time, 17 April 2017. Print.
This article was written by Allison Graham for Time Magazine. This article focuses on
President Donald Trump and Xi Jinping both having serious discussion at the upcoming
Mar-A-Largo summit, with the North Korea threat being at the center. The article
presents President Trump as boorish and demanding, sending clear messages to Xi to
have China prevent North Korea from building and testing bombs. The article then goes
into who Xi is, as many Americans may not be aware Xi is a strong man whose parents
were killed when he was young who struggled to survive harsh conditions in China’s
country side. Xi fought his way back to the political system where he seeks to bring
China to glory. Xi being a survivor who has a dream for greater China where China has
greater affluence in Asia than the current system, where Western influences’ can be
currently felt. This article provides insight into two very powerful men, whose drive and
ambition can push their current political systems to support what the other man desires
and possibility starve off the threat of war with North Korea.

Scherer, Michael. “Can Trump Handle the Truth?” Time. Time, 3 April 2017. Print.
This article was written by Michael Scherer and gives an outline of how President Donald
Trump perceives reality and how he trusts his instincts rather than facts. It discusses wire
taping, Swedish riots, illegal voters in the 2016 election and that he retracts his claims or
amends them as he sees fit. All of these misleading facts intend to provoke the American

public and rile his supporter’s, but they only point to a mastermind at misdirection and
strategic misleader who leaves himself an escape route when providing falsehoods. This
article goes on to explain that Trump does each of these falsehoods after careful
deliberate thought even if they seem clumsy and ill informed. In this method, Trump has
maintained control over the media even when it seems like he is no longer the national
headline. Even when Trump is confronted by his falsehoods, he sounds full of self-
confidence and acceptance by the American people as he is the current President of the
United States.
SkinTech, “The Statue of Liberty 12” TheWallpapers.org, Web
The original photograph displayed the Statue of Liberty on a clear sunny day, which has
been edited using faceswap.com to include dark storm clouds behind the statue, added the
nose cone of Elona Gay in place of the torch, and placed Trump’s face on the statue. This
was done to fit the nature of the assignment.

Game of Truth or Dare

The President of the United States is normally met with respect from fellow Americans
and other countries. Generations have been told stories of the virtues of George Washington
and the cheery tree, instilling the American people with an ideal perception of the President.
The prior Presidents maintaining that perception in presenting the populace with facts and
actions, the United States has become an icon for the world leaders to aspire to. However, the
forty-fifth President of the United States, President Trump, has created a choatic circus around
him by his actions and words. Trump is not one to shy away from the limelight; he actively
seeks attention on Twitter and through manipulations of media. He has gained certain
notoriety with his methods of dealing with issues in state and abroad, ranging from
wiretapping, terrorism, religion, fake news, alternative facts, school reform, a boarder wall, war
and more. Trump’s unorthodox approach has made many people uneasy, as he sets new
precedence for the actions of the office of the President. In this paper I will cover important
issues as they occurred and exemplify why Trump’s first term as President needs to be apart off
America’s cultural literacy as he is changing how the world powers see the United States.

In the Times article “Can Trump Handle the Truth”, this article was written by
Michael Scherer and gives an outline of how President Donald Trump perceives reality
and how he trusts his instincts rather than facts. It discusses wire taping, Swedish riots,
illegal voters in the 2016 election and that he retracts his claims or amends them as he
sees fit. All of these misleading facts intend to provoke the American public and rile his
supporter’s, but they only point to a mastermind at misdirection and strategic misleader
who leaves himself an escape route when providing falsehoods. This article goes on to

they seem clumsy and ill informed. In this method, Trump has maintained control over
the media even when it seems like he is no longer the national headline. Even when
Trump is confronted by his falsehoods, he sounds full of self-confidence and acceptance
by the American people as he is the current President of the United States.

Trump claimed that he had been spied upon during the election cycle, in this he
claimed that Trump Tower had been “wiretapped”(Scherer) by Obama. When no supporting
evidence was found Trump stated, “’ I’m a very instinctual person, but my instinct turns out to
be right…I have articles saying it happened.”’(Scherer) This was partially untrue, as The New
York Times had reported; “wiretapping had been used in an investigation of Trump’s
advisors…” (Scherer) this wiretapping was on Trump’s advisors due to questionable deal being
made overseas. To this Trump stated, ‘”That means I’m right.’” (Scherer) Trump has also
claimed that “three million undocumented immigrants had voted illegally in the
election.”(Scherer) Trump no longer supports that claim he has now changed it to, ‘”I mean
they mostly registered wrong… I’m forming a committee on that.’”(Scherer) Trump does not
feel that he has to apologize for any of his statements even when they are false, for example
Trump claimed that Texas Senator Ted Cruz father assassinated John F. Kennedy. “’I am just
quoting the newspaper.”’(Scherer) Trump was quoting The National Enquirer, “a tabloid
famous for its unconventional editorial standards.”(Scherer) Through all of his antics and
theatrics he still has support from his voters, believe him to be the honest man elected, as he
sympathizes with them on a deep emotional level. “To beat a polygraph, believe what you are
saying. Trump’s friends say he would pass a polygraph with flying colors.” (Scherer) Indecating
he believes in what he says even if it is false.

Trump is in a position of great influence and power, with his ability to craft truths to
suit his needs. He is fast becoming someone to pay attention to in great detail. In the article,

“Highstakes: Can Trump and Xi avoid war and strike a North Korea deal?” This article

President Trump as boorish and demanding, sending clear messages to Xi to have China
prevent North Korea from building and testing bombs. Trump has stated, “’If China is not
going to solve North Korea, we will.”’(Allison) The article then explains who the
Chinese leader is. Xi is a strong man whose parents were killed and when he was young
who struggled to survive harsh conditions in China’s country side. “Xi chose to embrace
the reality of the jungle…’chose to survive by becoming redder then red.’” (Allison) Xi
fought his way back to the political system where he seeks to bring China to glory. Xi
being a survivor who has a dream for greater China where China has greater affluence in
Asia than the current system, where Western influences’ can be currently felt. “…Xi is
aggressively mobilizing supporters to execute his hugely ambitious dream.” (Allison)
Will Xi with his ambition be able to help control North Korea or will he collide with
Trump’s ego?

“In the sixteen cases over the past five hundred years when a rising nation
threatened to displace a ruling one, war occurred twelve times.”(Allison) Both men will
need to be firm and subtle, “North Korea will cheat when it believes it can get away with
it, regardless to what it agrees to now.”(Allison) This article provides insight into two
very powerful men, whose drive and ambition can push their current political systems to
support what the other man desires and possibility starve off the threat of war with North
Korea.

Freeman 10

In conclusion, with the very real threat of a nuclear armed North Korea looming
heavily in the very near future, Trumps unorthodox style, his stretched relationship with
reality and his well-documented narcissism be able to guide the country through these
dangerous waters. Unlike his previous endeavors in the business world, Trump’s previous
unconventional leadership style may very well have consequences beyond simply another
bankruptcy. On this stage of global politics the real price of failure will be measured in
human lives.
