IDENTIFY PORTFOLIO DESIGN AND
ITS FUNCTIONS

1.1.1 Define Portfolio and its Contents

A portfolio is a living and changing collection of records that reflect your accomplishments, skills, experiences,
and attributes. It highlights and showcases samples of some of your best work, along with life experiences, values
and achievements. The personal information that you incorporate into
your portfolio can greatly reflect on your abilities as an individual as well as
become a useful tool in marketing yourself to employers, corporations,
colleges and universities. A portfolio does not take the place of a resume, but it can accentuate your abilities and
what you can offer in the chosen field.

1.1.2 Discuss function of a Portfolio

Portfolios are a great way to demonstrate the competencies you would list on a resume or talk about in an in-
terview — they allow you to show and not just tell. During a job search, the portfolio showcases your work to
potential employers. It presents evidence of your relevant skills and abilities.

1.2.1 Differentiate by career field

Student Portfolio - Useful in an academic setting; demonstrates knowledge attained in a given class or

throughout your school career. This portfolio can be very helpful if you plan on continuing your education
beyond the undergraduate level.

Work Portfolio - A work portfolio is a collection of work samples that shows your capabilities to prospective

employers. Job seekers might have an online portfolio, a paper portfolio, or both.

1.3 Propose types of portfolio:

Book Portfolio:

Printed portfolio books are not restricted by screen or device size. Just think about a beautiful book of 16×20 or
20×24 images. Talk about impactful. And, not only can prospective clients see your work as it was meant to be
seen, but they have the option to touch and feel it. Print is tactile and offers viewers a new way to absorb your
images. Research has highlighted the importance of this tactile experience with some studies showing a 20-30%
drop in comprehension between paper and screen.

Website Portfolio:

A portfolio website is a special type of personal website, created with the purpose of presenting the creative
work of its owner. Nowadays all respectable artists, photographers, and models are expected to have a website
where they showcase their projects, so having one is kind of a must. Photography portfolio websites typically
have gorgeous galleries, an about page and a contact page. That’s really all you need. One of the great things
about portfolio websites is that you have a lot of flexibility in how you choose to display your best work and
make it shine.

E- Portfolio:

A Digital Portfolio, also known as Electronic Portfolio or e-Portfolio, is a tool that collects the set of content, documents,
works, presentations and others with the aim of presenting the best work of an individual or organization, presented in
digital format. In this way, it is presented as a grouping of digital content that works as a presentation.

Portfolio design trends 2022

Plenty of Space

Something that’s been popping up in more designs across the board is making its way into portfolio design as well –
plenty of space between elements and objects.
This trend seems to have roots in ensuring that items are appropriately separated on mobile devices and have plenty of
tap-space, but the additional space can look great on desktop screens as well.

Over-the-Top Design

While minimal portfolio styles are popular, over-the-top portfolio designs
are beginning to trend. (Likely because they are so disruptive in a sea of
black and white, minimal designs.)
This portfolio uses a lot of trending elements together and it works. There’s
the big hero headline with a gradient color treatment, liquid animated ef-
fects, and funky type elements.

Magazine-Style Layouts

Magazine-style layouts have long been popular for blogs, but can also help
show off a portfolio as this trend shows.
Each block can be used to highlight a different type of work or individual
project in a way that gives each design room of its own.

Trendy Typography

You can never go wrong with amazing typography. Whether you are using a
trending type element, such as the outlines above, or simply a beautiful type-
face, this trend never gets old.

Large Typography

Strong typography and language can be the perfect introduction to
your work (and portfolio). Most people probably know of Tobias van
Schneider from his ventures as a designer or podcaster, but would
you expect his portfolio home page to be mostly text?

Streamlined Project Showcase

And then there’s the opposite end of the spectrum – portfolios that have a
more streamlined look and feel. There can be a benefit to only showing a
handful of projects. It ensures that users only see what you want them to
focus on and not get distracted.

Color Overlays

This technique evokes visitors’ curiosity, prompting them to click the pre-
views of designs to view an entire design solution. One benefit of using color
overlays on your home page is that it gives your design portfolio a consistent
look.

Portfolio Concept

1. Minimalist Concept

- (belonging or relating to a style in art, design, and theatre that uses the smallest range of materials and co-
lours
possible, and only very simple shapes or forms)

2. Modern Concept

(existing in the present or a recent time, or using or based on recently developed ideas, methods, or styles)

3. Abstract Concept

(Abstract design uses the language of shape, form, colour and gestural marks to create work that does not
attempt to depict visual reality accurately. Indeed, ‘abstract’ itself means ‘to withdraw or separate something
from something else’.)
