Mock Teaching
Overall reflection: Microteaching class
There are many things that I have learned from this Microteaching
subject. Even though I already learned this subject during my diploma, I
feel like there are new elements I acknowledge on how to write a proper
lesson plan and be a good educator. Many factors help me grasp the
students to become engaged with my lesson as a future teacher. I now
know the reinforcement techniques, stimulus variation, demonstration
skills, and various questioning methods. All these I will surely apply
during my practicum days. The overall lesson that I have learned is to
work smarter than work harder. There are many materials that I can
make or create to make my learning lesson not to be boring. Observing
my peers presenting their mock teachings, listening, and taking down
notes from this class helps add up my knowledge as a future teacher.
In this class, I have developed critical thinking on how to make my
overall lesson plan relate to each element and section. I know now how
to write the learning outcomes in detail with the ABCD techniques, not
just generally as I used to write back in those days. This is really
important just so that when I share the outcomes with the students,
they are able to understand what I am trying to achieve for the
teaching and learning lesson. Getting good feedback from the lecturers
and classmates makes me feel more confident and ready for my
internship days. Overall, I am glad that I can now write each stage of
the lesson plan correctly and know that there are so many platforms or
websites that are able to help my teaching lessons be more fun and
unique. To conclude, I need to reflect on my flaws and come out with
new changes or improvements to smoothen my teaching process. I will
do self-reflective thinking and prepare myself to be an educator.

week 1 (4th July 2022)
During the first day of microteaching class, we learnt the differentiation between
Kurikulum bersepadu sekolah menengah (KBSM) and Kurikulum Standard Sekolah
Menengah (KSSM). KBSM prioritises inquiry-based, contextual, collaborative, and
project-based learning. However, KSSM additionally includes extra components like
entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation, and global sustainability. Next, I also
learned more in-depth about The Common European Framework of Reference for
Languages (CEFR) which is a worldwide benchmark for language proficiency. The
CEFR is an appropriate and reliable standard for English proficiency in Malaysia and
rates language proficiency on scales. After so long of not seeing the lesson plan since
diploma days, Madam Nirmala showed us the newest version of the lesson plan with
extra components to make the lesson more valid, accurate, and relatable to each
element. Teachers are now dividing the students into high proficiency, intermediate
and low proficiency level compared to the previous methods where teachers were
focused on only targeting the students’ outcomes generally. Before the class ended,
Madam Nirmala emphasized reading Dokumen Standard Kurikulum dan Pentaksiran
(DSKP) as there are many important elements in it other than strategies for the teachers
to identify the content knowledge needed.
2
week 1 (5th July 2022)
For today’s lesson, it is about identifying the content standard and learning
standard. The fundamental information and abilities students must possess by the
session's conclusion are outlined in the content standards. The relevant language and
content knowledge students should master within a given year concerning the Content
Standards are specified in the Learning Standards. On top of that, for the new lesson
plan, I learned about inserting the Bloom Taxonomy under the band system in the
lesson plan. There is also an individual holistic section, which reflects varied modalities
and domains. For example, cognitive refers to the ways of students’ thinking, affective,
which is related to feelings, and psychomotor or physical. Next, there is a section of
learning mode in which the teacher decides on what method they want the students to
perform, such as discussion, group work, or individually. In my opinion, creating
meaningful learning environments through student-centered learning relies on
students' intuitive awareness of what they need from their education and results in
motivated and engaged learners. They can also practice the social interaction among
them.

CLASS
week 1 (6th & 7th July 2022)
6th July 2022
I have learned about STEM education for
today's lesson, which means educating students in
four specific disciplines: Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Mathematics. Secondly, we
learned more in detail about the 4 R's essential to
21st-century learning. We sat in a group, and I was
presented the cross circular elements with
examples, For me, it is an efficient approach to
boost engagement and complexity, teach students
transferrable problem-solving abilities, and give
coursework a purpose in the real world. Cross-
curricular projects are innovative to increase
students' knowledge and comprehension while
inspiring their curiosity in interesting, related
subjects.
7th July 2022
In today's class, all of us were learning how
to connect our laptops or devices with the
classroom's smartboard. This smoothens our
process during presentations and learning lessons.
4
week 2 (12th July 2022)
For today's lesson, Madam Nirmala taught us more in-depth about the learning
objective, the learning outcomes, and the differences. I now know it is preferable to use
the word outcomes compared to objectives. It is because outcomes focus more on what
the students can do and their needs. It also focuses more on students' centered learning
and their actions. As for the objectives, it focuses only on the teachers' intentions and
the possibilities, which are not as detailed as the outcomes. The learning outcomes
should have been stated on the classroom whiteboard so teachers and students would
acknowledge and know what to expect at the end of the lesson. Writing the learning
outcomes needs to take into account the time taken, students' proficiencies, materials,
and the measurable statement. Aside from that, there are three domains of learning that
teachers should focus on: cognitive, which relates to mental abilities, and effective,
which has to do with emotions and values. And the last one is psychomotor. I have also
learned about the SMART objectives. As a future teacher, I should write proper learning
outcomes to have better time management in conducting my class, improve my
teaching experience, and have an effective course design.

CLASS
week 2 (13th & 14th July 2022)
13th July 2022
During the tutorial class, I learned how to write the learning outcome statements
using the ABCD, which is the audience, behavior, condition, and degree method.
Although the approach is frequently used to establish learning objectives, it may also be
used to achieve learning outcomes. The audience focuses on the learners and behaviour
to describe the task or the action verbs. Next are conditions as in what references or aids
the students will be using, and lastly, the degree of mastery they should achieve. We did
the exercise which identified the ABCD in the learning outcomes sentences. Next, in
pairs, we need to write our learning outcomes using the ABCD methods and present them
during the next tutorial class.
14th July 2022
The learning outcomes were posted in Padlet. It was tough at first because it had to be
in such detail, but then I managed to grasp and write down the learning outcomes without
taking too much time.

week 3 (18th July 2022)
For today's lesson, Madam Nirmala focused on the Set Induction of the lesson
plan, also called the anticipatory set. There are several things that I have gained during
the lesson. Writing the set induction should be in simple words but with details and not
ambiguous. The set induction should only present within 6 to 5 minutes, a maximum of
7 minutes, and the induction should hint at the topic of the day. There are several ways
teachers can attract the student's attention during the set induction, such as engaging
them with fun teaching aids, colourful handouts, or visuals. As a future teacher, facial
expressions also play a vital role for the students. So I need to show enthusiasm while
teaching them in the classroom and know how to grasp their attention by using several
methods such as sharing facts, stories, or life experiences. On top of that, the teacher
can also trigger the students' prior knowledge and review the previous lesson before
starting the set induction.
8
week 3 (19th july 2022)
In today’s class, I learned about supporting material, the teaching aids. It is
created to help the students understand the context better, rather than using the
textbook all the time. The role of teaching aids is to let the students connect their lesson
with real-life experience, improving their creativity and understanding and making
them remember the content. I have also learned about the learning pyramid and
learning styles: kinesthetic, visual, and auditory. I can make a diorama, projecting
visuals, or let them experience gallery walk or experimental learning. Living in this 21st
century, future teachers should also consider several online platforms that will
encourage the students to do their home tasks effectively according to the topics given.
In today’s class, I shared a platform called Genially, where students can do various tasks
using only that particular website. The rest of my classmates have also shared the
platform they found.

CLASS
week 3 (20th & 21st July 2022)
20th July 2022
For today's tutorial, we individually presented our set induction of the lesson plan.
Each of us needs to choose a topic, do an overall lesson plan, and post it in the Padlet.
Overall, after a couple of times writing lesson plans, I think I have managed to correctly
write a decent set induction that can attract the students' attention with the suitable
supporting materials to help me present the topic of the day.
21st July 2022
In today's tutorials, we need to perform a group and create a teaching aid that can
use multiple times. My group and I chose the topic Journey from the Form 2 textbook and
came out with the idea to create a teaching aid that relates to the vocabulary of the types of
transportation. This teaching can be used for writing skills as well as students may choose
whichever ride they like and make an essay based on it. I think today's task helped me think
critically about creating aids that can be used for several kinds of activities.
10
week 4 (25th july 2022)
In today's lesson, we have taught about stimulus variation, how to keep students
engaged with the lesson, and ways to enhance the students' learning. Madam Nirmala
gave us the task to think about the ways that we, as future teachers, develop attention-
getting to smoothen the lesson and help the students engage with the lesson starting
from the set induction until the conclusion. We then paste our ideas into the Jamboard
platform. There are a couple of my favourite strategies, which are mastering the fall and
rising tone, elements of surprise, fun handouts, doing physical actions, exciting facts,
remembering the students' names, telling stories or any horror experience, integrating
technology, doing the spontaneous quiz, putting an accent, bring the students outside of
the classroom, and resting time. On top of that, as a future teacher, I can also do a
cosplay based on the topic. We also learned about factors of attention such as well and
contrast great teaching aids, teacher's behaviors, movements in the classroom, sound
and lights, etc.

week 4 (26th & 27th july 2022)
26th July 2022
In today’s class, I have learned about the assessment criteria. Establishing clear
expectations for assessed work among teachers and students depends heavily on the
assessment criteria. The requirements that must be reached and the supporting
documentation that will be used to prove that the learning objectives have been achieved
should be made clear. On top of that, Madam Nirmala also taught the questioning
techniques, how to react when the students give their responses, and moments when they
are not able to provide the teacher’s answer. In my opinion, this topic is essential because it
helps widen my mind on how to appropriately react to the students if I'm having these
kinds of scenarios during my practicums.

Today’s tutorial class was about continuing to present the teaching aids from last week's
task and listening to Madam Izzati’s feedback.

week 5 (1st august 2022)
In today's lesson, I have learned about reinforcement strategies which are the
action to make a target behavior and removing something undesired by the students. As
there are no more extended punishments, teachers have implemented negative
reinforcement as performing an action that decreases the students' privilege if they
misbehave. But I understood that some reinforcement could not be a long-term
solution. Still, there are lots of benefits of those strategies, such as promoting a positive
environment, student motivation, and also minimal loss of instructional time for the
teachers. There are five types of reinforcement that all of my classmates and I have
brainstormed.
Types of reinforcement:
Verbal praises: "very informative", "keep it up", "way to go", "outstanding".
Attention: patting, air-five, praise with gestures, teacher smile more often.
Edibles: marshmallow, vitamin chewable, food coupons, juice boxes.
Toys and preferred items: jigsaw puzzles, mask-chains, stationaries, and thinking games.
Activities: choose their group for the task, me-time, music, nap, and board games.
13
week 5 (2nd august 2022)
Today's last lesson focused on the closure of the lesson plan. The total minutes of
the set closure should be around 3 to 5 minutes to wrap up and reflect on the day's
lesson and what the teacher could have done differently for the next class. The teacher
can use the question techniques to check the students' understanding. And at the end of
the lesson, the teacher can check whether the learning outcomes stated have been
achieved. The purpose of conducting a closure before ending the class helps the
students to instill moral values, reflecting the overall lesson, recap the important key
points, and also to preview future lessons. There are also fun ways to end the lesson
effectively. Out of all ideas given by madam Nirmala, I chose the postcard technique.
For example, pupils write a postcard explaining their lesson of the day with maximum
words. Aside from the lesson's understanding, they can also develop writing skills.
Other than my chosen techniques, there are other exciting techniques such as passing
the ball, doodling the topic, sticky notes, and being the teacher. Before the class ended,
we were also taught how to write all the important elements on the whiteboard, such as
the learning outcomes, language items, new vocabularies, and extension tasks.

week 5 (3rd & 4th august 2022)
3rd August 2022
For today's tutorial, I was presenting project 1, which is to create a lesson plan with
suitable teaching aids according to the topic, Time to Spare, and language skills, which are
reading and writing skills. I have integrated the use you Padlet platform for the pupils to
hand in their answer tasks for the reading skills. Next, for the writing skills, the students
need to write a postcard and use all the words given. Overall I think I aced integrating the
21st-century style aids; hence I think I should improve also to include real teaching aids so
that students are able to experience in real lives.

week 6 (8th - 11th august 2022)
This week started as the first week of mock teachings. Within this week, several
peers have presented using various approaches, attractive teaching aids, and attention-
getting techniques. There was one presenter that made a beautiful telephoto using
recycled materials, which to me it was very attractive not only for us peers but also for
the students in class. Some of them were very confident in talking in front of a huge
audience, and some were nervous. Next, it the best to call out students not only by their
names but also by giving hints as to what they are wearing, which are excellent ideas, in
my opinion. Besides that, most of them implemented the sticky note techniques to let
the students write down the summarization of the overall lesson they have learned.
On top of that, there were certain times when technical issues happened, but
then most of them managed to come up with second plans instead of relying on the
technologies. Aside from that, some peers did not manage to use the whiteboard and fill
in all the necessary details taught by Madam Nirmala, which was quite disappointing.
Few peers have not presented proper conclusions as the time was running out. Overall,
they all did a great job.
16
week 7 (15th - 18th august 2022)
This week marks the second week of mock teachings, which was also the week
where I was presenting, and the chosen topic was called Crime for the Form 5 students.
The language skill that I got was Reading skills hence I focused on reading a passage
and acknowledging the students with vocabularies that related to crimes. I chose this
topic because I want them to learn how to prevent crimes in their neighbourhood areas.
To engage them with the lesson, I started my set induction by identifying the types of
crimes by reading the newspaper headlines, and we also did a word search puzzle
together. I then projected the learning outcomes they should have by the end of my
lessons. As the moc teaching suddenly needed to be conducted online, I thanked God
that my presentation was running smoothly.
The students were energetic and responded to my questions and all. As for my
conclusion, I adjusted it into an online mode by using the Mentimeter for the students
to fill in the new words they learned during the overall lesson, as I was supposed to
provide them with a mind map worksheet to complete in a real-life classroom. The
last-minute adjustment has helped me think critically and instantly about how I should
solve the issues properly without having too much inconvenience. So this experience
helped me to equip myself better to face any circumstances that cannot be avoided
during my practicum days.
