Jangamshire

Anil
[Company name]
Jangamkote

Its everyone’s dream to own and dwell in bungalow in a large plot
full of greenery and amidst similar bungalows in the lap of nature.
You can make your dream come true in Jangamshire.

Jangamshire-My Ecovillage is a concept which is evolved after a thorough

research to address illogical migration and to offer an independent lifestyle for
a need based livelihood, co-existing as one with nature & many more
advantages – all these very near to Bangalore City and spread over 500 acres.

What is an Ecovillage?

An ecovillage is a traditional or intentional community with the goal of
becoming more socially, culturally, economically, and ecologically sustainable. It
is consciously designed through locally owned, participatory processes to
regenerate and restore its social and natural environments.

Ecovillagers are united by shared ecological, social-economic and cultural-
spiritual values. Many see the breakdown of traditional forms of community,
wasteful consumerist lifestyles, the destruction of natural habitat, urban
sprawl, factory farming, and over-reliance on fossil fuels as trends that must be
changed to avert ecological disaster and create richer and more fulfilling ways
of life.

Ecovillages offer small-scale communities with minimal ecological impact or
regenerative impacts as an alternative.

"human-scale full-featured settlement in which human activities are
harmlessly integrated into the natural world in a way that is supportive of
healthy human development, and can be successfully continued into the
indefinite future.” Robert Gilman

Kosha Joubert, Executive Director of the Global Ecovillage Network, more
recently defined an ecovillage as an:

"intentional, traditional; rural or urban community that is consciously designed
through locally owned, participatory processes in all four dimensions of
sustainability (social, culture, ecology and economy) to regenerate their social
and natural environments”.

According to Evolutionary Biologist Wilson, being in contact with nature makes
humans happier and healthier; and since it’s in our genes it is cross-cultural –
everyone, rich or poor, rural or urban, will find solace in nature. One of the

implications of this is that we may find something beautiful, or comfortable,
because it emulates patterns found in nature. From there it’s only a short leap
to design buildings that emulate natural patterns and processes. Termed
biophilic design, it’s a leap that a number of architects and psychologists have
already begun to make.

The Global Ecovillage Network (GEN) is a global association of people
and communities (ecovillages) dedicated to living "sustainable plus" lives by
restoring the land and adding more to the environment than is taken. Our goal
is to make Jangamshire a Member of GEN.

The Name: Jangamshire

Jangamakote is a village near Devanahalli. We are creating an Eco-Shire in this
village. Hence, we named our project Jangamshire.

The Concept of Jangamshire:

Jangamshire is a Hybrid Ecovillage where modern living is not compromised with
all the parameters of an Ecovillage with Biophillic design for buildings. All this
can be achieved only over a large expanse of land and very near to an Urban
Sprawl. Hence, we chose Jangamkote as the location where we could source
500 acres.

The concept is designed considering & addressing following aspects.

• Hectic, robotic lifestyle in urban sector resulting stressful lifestyle,
ailments in middle age itself.

• To offer a qualitative, healthy & joyful lifestyle in the lap of nature

• To offer a decent lifestyle with self- respect.

A group of Resources persons & Organizations are involved for a qualitative &
scientific approach.

Our Proposed project is spread over 500 acres. The concept of the development
is unique and a brief is below:

Traditional Knowledge & Modern Technologies coupled for a complete de-
centralised approach, to revive & restore the equilibrium of very basic Natural
Equation. Each plot will come with:

• Picket fencing all around & each plot – complete security.

• Each plot will be afforested with teak, silver oak, agarwood, pepper vines,
coconut plants, coffee & Cardamom plants alongside the borderline.

• Inside, areca, coffee, cardamom & pepper vines plantation will be done.
Many fruit bearing plants will be planted for personal consumption.

• Optimum utilisation of solar energy, wind energy, soil & water with multi
-tiered afforestation.

• Bio diversity through sequential afforestation.
• North easterly & South westerly winds are addressed with intermittent

afforestation.
• Natural food & water cycle – reestablishment through cropping pattern.
• Rain gun irrigation to optimise water utilisation.
• A Footprint left for Building an Abode.

Land Use:
• Plots of 30x40 and 60x40 spread over 50 acres
• Luxury Plots in multiples of 10000 sft spread over 450 acres
• Club Houses Area with all the amenities
• Sports Arena

A Note on Naturalized Playgrounds:

Children and society as a whole can benefit significantly by maximizing the
informal play and learning opportunities that naturalized outdoor play
environments offer young children. Naturalized outdoor early childhood
environments are places where children can reclaim the magic that is their birth
right, the ability to grow and learn to their fullest in their unique experiential
way through the joy of exploration and discovery in the natural world. But
perhaps even more important, naturalized playgrounds offer the hope that
children will develop the environmental values to become the future stewards
of the Earth who will preserve the diversity and wonder of Nature.

• Children with symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
(ADHD) are better able to concentrate after contact with nature (Faber
Taylor et al. 2001).

• Children with views of and contact with nature score higher on tests of
concentration and self-discipline. The greener, the better the scores
(Faber Taylor et al. 2002, Wells 2000).

• Children who play regularly in natural environments show more
advanced motor fitness, including coordination, balance and agility, and
they are sick less often (Fjortoft 2001, Grahn et al. 1997).

• When children play in natural environments, their play is more diverse
with imaginative and creative play that fosters language and
collaborative skills (Faber Taylor et al. 1998, Fjortoft 2000, Moore &
Wong 1997).

• Exposure to natural environments improves children’s cognitive
development by improving their awareness, reasoning and observational
skills (Pyle 2002).

• Nature buffers the impact of life stress on children and helps them deal
with adversity. The greater the amount of nature exposure, the greater
the benefits (Wells 2003).

• Play in a diverse natural environment reduces or eliminates anti-social
behaviour such as violence, bullying, vandalism and littering, as well
reduces absenteeism (Coffey 2001, Malone & Tranter 2003, Moore &
Cosco 2000).

• Nature helps children develop powers of observation and creativity and
instils a sense of peace and being at one with the world (Crain 2001).

• Early experiences with the natural world have been positively linked
with the development of imagination and the sense of wonder (Cobb
1977, Louv 1991). Wonder is an important motivator for life long
learning (Wilson 1997).

• Children who play in nature have more positive feelings about each
other (Moore 1996).

• A decrease in children’s time spent outdoors is contributing to an
increase of children’s myopia (Nowak 2004).

• Natural environments stimulate social interaction between children
(Moore 1986, Bixler, Floyd & Hammutt)
