A Message

From Our Founder

Hi there!

My name is Kerry and I run MatchDog Rescue working along side an amazing team of volunteers. You
may meet some of our team via email and/or on transport day. I have read your application and have
loved getting to know you. As your MatchDay approaches, I can only imagine how excited you are
about getting to meet one of our MatchDogs. We are too!

Our gorgeous MatchDogs were loaded from numerous locations deep in Texas and our transporters
are currently making their way across the U.S. - bringing them safely to us and to you. Just like you, we
are super excited to meet our babies! Remember, we have known these puppies and dogs for quite
some time. We have kept a close eye on them and have seen them blossom. It has taken a huge team
to get them ready for their big day, which we like to refer to as "MatchDay"!

As we travel this journey together, I would ask that you take the time to read this magazine. We have
created it so that you have all the information you need at your fingertips. Read it from front to back
and back again! Within its pages, you will meet many of my friends and colleagues who have
important information to share with you. They are all dedicated and hard-working volunteers, who
have their own families and full time jobs! Please be mindful of this. They are all incredible people and
we are an amazing team, all equal and all with one single goal....save as many dogs as we can!

The pages of the magazine will provide you with everything you
need for a successful adoption with MatchDog Rescue.
Take the time to read it before your MatchDay
and, again, once your new family member is home with
you. We understand you may be feeling nervous - you
are putting your trust in us. We get it! From start to
finish, we will do our utmost to make this an
incredible experience for you and your entire
family! Just a short while to go and you should
be hugging your new best friend. We truly are
looking forward to meeting you all on
MatchDay.

- Kerry

The History
of MatchDog

MatchDog is a personal canine rescue community in South Jersey. Our vision is
to save abandoned dogs of all ages from unwarranted euthanasia. We
rescue, match, and rehome these loving souls as companion animals in an
effort to end overpopulation and abuse.

Founded in 2017 All Volunteers

Foster Based Rescue Registered 501c3

Where Our
MatchDogs Are From

MatchDog Rescue mainly rescues dogs from the deep southern parts of Texas.

Many rescues do not save dogs from this area due to the many challenges they
face - high cost of transporting from this distance, effect of elements on the
transport vehicle, difficulty finding volunteers in Texas, etc. Because of these
obstacles, dogs in this area are at a severe disadvantage. Since the number of
homeless dogs is so high, most abandoned/stray dogs only have 3 days from
the time they are picked up off the streets (by animal control) before being
euthanized. If lost, their owners have little time to find them.

If the dog is surrendered by his/her owner, the dog most likely has 24 hours
before being euthanized. This is done to make room for other abandoned
dogs. In addition, many dogs are not spayed or neutered which leads to
overpopulation.

Our MatchDogs stay in Texas at our
"MatchPads". We have several locations with
rescuers (who are all volunteers), providing
environments similar to doggy day care
facilities. The best thing about our
MatchPads is that they enable our dogs
to be around other animals, dogs,
and staff, allowing them to experience
the hustle and bustle of an ordinary
day.

Before The Big Day:

A Message from Our Matchmakers

Hi there!
We are so happy that you've been
matched to meet one of our
MatchDogs. At this point, our job as
matchmakers is done. Congrats on
your upcoming meet! Please take a
few minutes to look at the pertinent
information in our Online Adoption
Folder, located under the "Make A
Difference" heading on our website.
We will reach out only if we have
information we need to share with
you.

Before Leaving Home:

• Wear older clothes. Sometimes the pups
can come off the van stinky.

• Leave your other pets at home. This is a
long and tiring day for our MatchDogs.

• Make sure the person on the adoption
contract is present to pick up your new pup.
• Don’t forget to bring your ID.

Fun Fact:

MatchDog Rescue names most dogs
according to our transport theme!
The second name in parentheses
was their name in foster care. You
can name your pup whatever you'd like!

It's MatchDay!

Here are some tips for the day!

We recommend you use the restroom before arriving at PetSmart. Should you need
one, there is a Super Wawa across the street.

Before your assigned time, head to the front of PetSmart. There are plenty of parking
spaces to wait in.

At your assigned time, head around back. Drive around the side of Wine Works and
bear to the right. A volunteer will check you in and direct you to back your car into a
parking spot along the tree line. Please use your hazard lights if you need us for
anything. At no time during the adoption process should you leave your vehicle.

A volunteer will bring your MatchDog to your car along with a black bag which will
contain preventative medications and their microchip. Once you have confirmed
these things are in the bag, you may begin to fill out the adoption contract found in
the Online Adoption Folder.

When signaled, please pull up as close as you can to the payment car window to
complete the adoption process. We accept cash or Venmo (@Matchdog-Rescue). We
will then take a family photo. This will be posted on our Facebook page/Instagram
feed. Once checkout is complete, you will receive an email to access your pup's
records.

Get ready to head home with your new family member. You must have a crate, a
seat belt restraint, or a second person to hold your dog. Safety first! Exit out the back
of the complex by heading toward the direction of ShopRite.

During your one hour window to get to know your dog, please find a quiet spot. If you
live locally, you can go home. If not, Google a green space to sit quietly and get to
know each other.

It's MatchDay!

Petsmart.

Home Sweet Home

Some of the pups are fine getting a bath on the day of adoption but be mindful of
his/her cues. If you feel it’s best to wait a day or two, then do so. MDR bath tip - we use
Dawn dish detergent (careful around the eyes) followed by a doggie shampoo. The
Dawn breaks down any dirt, oil, etc that might be in the fur/ hair.

Please keep in mind these pups are rescues and, as such, have been eating whatever is
donated. In terms of what to feed them, pick something you can stick with so you don’t
have to keep switching. You may want to buy a small quantity at first in case your pup
doesn't like it or your vet recommends something else. Some pups have allergies to
chicken. Lamb and fish based products can be easier for their sensitive bellies.

Also, stay away from giving bones, chews, bully sticks, or treats for the first 3 weeks.
The dogs can be stressed after the trip and, on a new diet, any additional treats can
cause major troubles. If you want to give them something extra, try small pieces of plain
cooked chicken, cheese or cold cuts. These are easy on the stomach if given in small
amounts.

The best treat you can give is LOVE . That’s all these dogs need!

Vet Visits

We'd love for your new dog to see a vet
within the first 7 days, but it is a suggestion,
not a requirement. Seeing a vet is your decision.

If your dog has not already been altered, you have 180 days after adoption to
have your MatchDog spayed or neutered at any vet you choose. Once the
surgery has been completed, just fill out our online Spay/Neuter Reimbursement
form found in the Online Adoption Folder on our website. When filling it out, you
will need to provide us with a copy of your contract, proof of surgery and proof
of microchip registration and will we give you back $125 via Venmo. It's that
easy!

Microchips

Microchip

You will receive a microchip. It is fragile so please handle with care. Put it in a
safe place until your vet appointment. If your dog is already altered, give the
chip to your vet and they will place it at a well visit. If your dog is not altered,
your vet will insert it when your dog is spayed/neutered. You still need to have
our microchip placed even if your pup has been chipped before.

How to Register Your Microchip

Go to petstablished.com. Click on 'Register Microchips'. Create an account.
Enter your pet's information.Your microchip number can be found under the
barcode on the back of the packaging.

What to Do if it Says the Number is Already Taken

Email [email protected] for microchip issues and they will reach out
to us with any problems.

One Time Fee

There is a one time fee of $12.99 after you use the discount code PS2015.

Responsibility

MatchDog Rescue requires that you register
our microchip within 72 hours of adopting your
dog. The microchip can be registered prior to
implanting in your dog. Proof of the
microchip registration must be sent to
[email protected]. We will
only reimbuse you for your dogs
spay/neuter when proof of chip
registration is emailed to
MatchDog Rescue.

Medication

Certain medications will be provided to you based on your pup’s
age, weight, and/or medical needs. These are provided to you
prophylactically and are tailored to each dog. We recommend you
bring all meds AND empty packaging with you to your first vet visit.

Doxycycline

Doxycycline is an antibiotic that can be used to treat bacterial infections.
MatchDog uses it as a preventative in most cases. If your pup is heartworm
positive or currently has a tick borne illness, you have been provided 28 days of
Doxycycline. Give the ENTIRE medication until gone! If they are not, you have been
provided 14 days worth. Please note, Doxycycline MUST be given with food.

Metronidazole

Metronidazole is a prescription antibiotic used to treat diarrhea and conditions
that affect the gut.

Panacur

Panacur is a very expensive, broad spectrum dewormer. It is a powder so please
mix it in a small amount of wet food or peanut butter to make sure your pup gets
the full dose.

Proviable (Probiotic)

This is modern medicine at its best. It does the
same for dogs as for us – soothes the gut and
aids digestion. It is great when you have a
stressed dog arriving from Texas.

Preventatives

Your MatchDog is currently up to date on
flea/tick preventatives. Please check your
pup's records to see when he/she will
be due for their next dose.

Medication

All medications start on Sunday. Please note that depending on your pup's age
and weight will determine which medications they should or should not receive.
Every dog should start the Proviable (probiotic) on Sunday.

Pups Under 4 Months (regardless of weight)

You will only start the probiotic on Sunday. Absolutely NO other medicine should
be administered unless you are directed to do so by your vet.

Pups Under 10 Pounds (regardless of age)

You will only start the probiotic on Sunday. Absolutely NO other medicine should
be administered unless you are directed to do so by your vet.

Pups Between 4-6 Months AND Over 10 Pounds

You will start the probiotic & Panacur on Sunday. If your pup still has a runny
tummy on Tuesday, start the Metronidazole as directed. Do NOT give your pup the
Doxycycline unless directed to do so by your vet.

Pups 6 Months or Older AND Over 10 Pounds

You will start the probiotic, Metronidazole, Panacur & Doxycycline on Sunday.
Doxycycline must be given with food.

A Message from Our

Volunteer Coordinator

Hi!

My name is Guinevere and I’m MatchDog Rescue’s Volunteer Coordinator. Congrats on being matched! I’m
sure while reading this, you’re anxiously counting down the minutes until your new pup is in your arms. I
am so very excited for you! Even though I don’t know you personally, I do know every one of our adopters
has at least one wonderful thing in common - you are about to open your homes and your hearts to a
gorgeous MatchDog and give them them everything they so very much deserve (and I’m sure have
dreamt of)! All of the volunteers involved with your adoption day know just how special this is for both you
and your future pup!

Adopters like yourself, along with what we are about to experience and accomplish, make the time we all
put in incredibly worthwhile. Your willingness to adopt doesn’t just change the life of one dog - it paves the
road for countless others. Each dog adopted makes room for another. A dog barely surviving on the
streets completely hopeless or one abandoned in a shelter on borrowed time now has a chance to be
rescued. When you made room in your home for a MatchDog, you freed up room in foster care for
one of these animals to get a second chance at life. So, you see, your actions have a huge impact
on the rescue world. I cannot wait to see the happy smiles as, with great privilege, we introduce your new
family member to you. I look forward to seeing all the posts in our PupDates group and will enjoy watching
every pup thrive in the life you’re going to provide for them!

No worries if there are happy tears during your adoption, I’m known to
have the same reaction! On behalf of all of MatchDog’s volunteers,
a very heartfelt thank you - for opening your hearts and your
homes to these incredible dogs! Without people like you,
we wouldn’t be able to do what we do. Many of our
volunteers who help make this all happen were once
in your shoes as first time adopters, who later decided
to give back to an organization that brought them
so much joy with their wonderful furbabies. If you
ever choose to do the same, we would absolutely
love to have you! I’m so happy to welcome each
and every one of you into the MatchDog
family. Congrats again on adding 4 new paws
into your life and best wishes to all!

- Guinevere

A Message from Our
Foster Coordinator

Hi everyone!
Once you and your MatchDog have settled in, please consider being a foster family to one
of our spectacular pups. Without foster families, MatchDog could not save the number of
dogs we do. Sometimes, a MatchDog is not ready to go to his or her furever family right
off of transport. He or she is placed in foster care where they are loved and cared for until
they can be adopted. Fostering is an amazing experience. Foster and save a life!

- Patty
