PETER HABELER IS ONE OF THE BEST CLIMBERS AND ALPINISTS
IN THE WORLD AND TOGETHER WITH REINHOLD MESSNER, HE
SECURED HIS PLACE IN THE HISTORY BOOKS IN 1978. THEY

WITHOUT ANY ADDITIONAL OXYGEN, AND ACHIEVED SOMETHING
TRULY REMARKABLE BY DOING SO. “THE MOUNTAINS ARE MY
ELIXIR OF LIFE”, RHAPSODIZES PETER HABELER, AND STILLS
PURSUES HIS PASSION RIGHT UP UNTIL TODAY.

The Zillertal native Peter Habeler set himself
a big goal for his 75th birthday: he wanted to
climb the mountain face again that once marked
the highlight of his Alpine career - the Eiger
Nordwand. Together with Reinhold Messner, he
conquered it in 1974 in around 10 hours. The
record remained in place for almost 30 years.

of one of the best mountain climbers in the world 23

David when he was just 5 years old and decisively

A tragic accident suffered by Heinz Kinigadner‘s son
Hannes in 2003, which resulted in him suffering high
paraplegia, is what triggered the decisive impulse for
the motorsport legend to establish the Wings for Life
foundation together with Dietrich Mateschitz. Paraplegia
is not one of the so-called “widespread diseases”, so
investing millions in a treatment for a relatively small
number of affected people often does not seem to
be worth it. This realisation was the starting signal to
establish the private research foundation Wings for Life,
with the goal of finding curative treatments for paraplegic
patients worldwide.

season. Despite carrying an injury picked up at the
previous stop on the tour, Rhiannan Iffland was
nevertheless able to claim this year’s overall title.
Jonathan Paredes not only picked up plenty of
points for style, but also for putting on a display
diving of the highest technical level, and this
secured him the overall men’s title. “I can hardly
believe that I’ve actually won. I was sure that it
won’t be enough and so I was able to dive with
less pressure. I am still shocked that I’ve actually
won!” said Jonathan. Rhiannan added: “It is an
unbelievable feeling to finish as the winner from
such a strong field of competitors, particularly with
the injury I had recently!”

Innovation is the keyword: this is already the third time MOSAIK BY CAMO & KROOKED KABLE
that we have got together with the congenial pair to design
glasses: after a G6 and a Gi2 DeJaVu in past few years, 1i15-05-3L
the model of choice for the new gloryfy collaboration was
the Gi15 St. Pauli SUN. The new limited
edition range is being launched at an exciting
time in the career of the music duo. That’s
because in 2017, Camo & Krooked created
their own monument to their sound with what
is their best album to date. They have lifted
their trademark sound that has developed
organically since the first songs they created
together back in 2007 to a whole new level
with this album. Reini Rietsch (Camo) and
Markus Wagner (Krooked) captivate those
who listen to their music with a unmistakeable
mix of minimalistic, electronic beats, analogue
synthesizers and perfectly placed vocals,
which round off the homogeneous sound.
Tempo and rhythm vary, moods alternate
and hit follows hit.

A brief account of the past few years provides
a small insight into the unbelievable journey
that life has taken the two likeable musicians
on. A new album that they had worked on
for three years was released, remixes for
legendary acts like Noisia were produced,
and they even found the time to start their
own record label that they called “Mosaik
Musik”. In addition to the celebrated live
performances at the world’s biggest festivals
came the request from BBC Radio 1 to record
an “Essentials Mix” - which is akin to being
knighted for every DJ - and rounded off what
was probably the most successful year in the
duo’s career up to now. The two mid-thirty
year olds with roots in Austrian Salzburg and
Lower Austria can look back on 10 years in
the music industry that have produced four albums and
more than 50 singles. Oh yeah ... did we also mention
the 7 nominations and the three awards picked up at the
Drum’n’Bass Arena Awards (the scene’s Oscars if you will)!

In the upcoming months, Camo & Krooked will bring the
live show to go with their new album “Mosaik” on tour,
which will see them playing festivals in New Zealand, as
well as throughout North America and Europe. But once
the dust has settled and they again have the time to go into
the studio, you can be sure that the pair will once again
be pushing forward into never before imagined sound
dimensions - their best is still definitely ahead of them.
