Comparative adjectives

Comparative adjectives are used to compare differences between the two objects (larger,
smaller, faster, higher). They are used in sentences where two nouns are compared, in this
pattern:
Kata sifat perbandingan digunakan untuk membandingkan perbezaan antara dua objek (lebih
besar, lebih kecil, lebih cepat, lebih tinggi). Mereka digunakan dalam ayat di mana dua kata
nama dibandingkan, dalam corak ini:

Noun (subject) + verb + comparative adjective + than + noun (object).
Kata nama (subjek) + kata kerja + kata sifat perbandingan + daripada + kata nama (objek). 2-
syllable adjectives ending in -y: change the -y to –ier (Kata sifat 2-suku kata berakhir dengan -
y: tukar -y menjadi –ier)

 1-syllable adjectives: add -er to the adjective (Kata sifat 1-suku kata: tambah -er pada kata
sifat)
 My sister is much taller than me.
 It's colder today than it was yesterday.

Note: If the word ends: consonant-vowel-consonant, then the last consonant is usually
doubled in the comparative. Examples: big-bigger, fat-fatter, hot-hotter. (Catatan: Sekiranya
perkataan berakhir: konsonan-vokal-konsonan, maka konsonan terakhir biasanya digandakan
dalam perbandingan. Contoh: big-bigger, fat-fatter, hot-hotter.

 2-syllable adjectives ending in -y: change the -y to –ier (Kata sifat 2-suku kata berakhir

anjing Jim.

 The rock flew higher than the roof. • Batu itu terbang lebih tinggi dari bumbung.
