The Simple Past Tense

Definition

The simple past tense is a verb tense form that indicates that an action is
complete. It denotes actions or states of being, in the past. (Simple past tense
adalah bentuk kata kerja yang menunjukkan bahawa tindakan sudah selesai.
Ini menunjukkan tindakan atau keadaan wujud, pada masa lalu )

Regular Verbs

- For most verbs, the simple past tense is created by adding a d, ed or ied at
the end of the word. (Kebanyakan kata kerja masa lalu ditambahkan d,
ed atau ied pada akhir kata.)

Verbs ending in e add a d. Present Tense Past Tense
(Kata kerja yang berakhir dengan e tambah d) live lived
love loved
invite invited
tried
Verbs ending in (consonant)+y, change y, to i, and try
add ed. cry cried
study
Kata kerja yang berakhir dengan (konsonan) + y, studied
ubah y, menjadi i, dan tambah ed.

Verbs that are one syllable and ending in fan fanned
(vowel)+(consonant) (but not y or w, double the nod nodded

consonant and then add ed. pin

Kata kerja yang satu suku kata dan diakhiri dengan

Irregular verbs

- The simple past tense of some verbs do not end in ed. (Kata kerja masa lalu
yang tidak berakhir dengan ed.)

- Since they are irregular, they do not follow any pattern and the best way to
learn them would be to repeat and memorize them. (Oleh kerana mereka
tidak mengikuti peraturan apa pun dan cara terbaik untuk
mempelajarinya adalah mengulang dan menghafalnya.
