We have a dream...
ŞAL TIMESTHE

Monthly Newspaper from Şişli Anatolian High School January-February 2022

We visited Şişli Mayor Mr. Muammer Keskin in his office. He answered our
questions sincerely. Details on page: 10-11

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.

I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush

I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

ARE YOUR CHOICES REALLY YOURS?

When I saw this question on the last issue of the Philoshopy
Magazine,
I genuinely stopped and started to think about it. Are my choices really
mine? Actually in my point of view my choices are sometimes my own
and some other times I am influenced by other people's opinions. If it
is an important choice I move on with the other people's choices on the
other hand if it's a normal daily choice I stick with my own opinions. So
I realise that I give great value to other people's thoughts. However
while doing this I put my own ideas a side as if I locked them in a
room; I made myself believe that other people's opinions are my
opinions, I fooled myself and played a trick on myself.
I would like to thank you to provide me to understand this fact by
means of this magazine. I really want to see other issues of this
magazine.
I wish you good luck for the other issues.

was in Ardahan.

Question 3:   Out of the job are there any activities you like doing?
I am a really social person. I have different social sides. For example, I have been on board of the Turkish
Oncology Foundation for many years, which has nothing to do with me professionally. It is an institution that
conducts extensive studies in breast cancer and cervical cancer. I also support them in financial and other
matters. This is one of the issues that I care about most. Since I am the mayor, my time is more limited but I love
reading, writing, and traveling whenever I can. I especially like to travel around Turkey and the world. I am also
the founder and director of different foundations.

Question 4:   Which projects do you have about Şişli
Şişli is a very central district, it is a cosmopolitan district, and it has many different cultures. To be a local
administrator in this city is an honor for me. To this day Şişli was a loud and crowded district. I aim to get rid of
this issue and make Şişli more social and cultural. When I was a child Şişli was the center of art, culture, and
literature. Today, it’s not just Şişli. The entirety of Turkey has undeveloped in this topic. The cinemas, theatres,
libraries, etc. have decreased. My goal is to bring these back to life. And we have taken the steps for this goal.
For example, in terms of our cultural activities, we made a plaque festival. It was a very successful festival. This
year we are going to do it again. The theatres were closed. We are reopening them. For the theatricals and the
theatre audience, we want them to relive this experience. We are bringing back the historical textures.
Sometimes in our daily lives, we pass historical figures and we don’t even realize it. To make people realize this
is one of my biggest goals. The others are routine tasks. For example taking care of the electricity, water, roads,
trash, etc. We have to do these. And to do these we require resources. Of course, because of the pandemic,
Covid-19, this affected every person. This affected the local government even more because this period poverty
and psychological problems have increased. We also try to solve this issue.

Question 5:  What do you suggest or advise students for the future?
I think that our students in Şişli are relatively luckier than the students in other districts. But I think that equality
in opportunity in education is still not fully created in Şişli. Many of our children still don’t have computers and
the internet. You are a lucky generation and you are studying in a qualified school. My effort is to create an
infrastructure that will enable the children living and studying in Şişli to have a better education. As local
administrators, we strive to increase the skills of all private and public schools, especially public schools, in
culture, sports, and different fields as much as we can in Şişli. My request to young people is not only to be
successful in lessons but also to have hobbies. They need to read a lot of books too because reading book means
a door to different worlds.

IB PROGRAMS

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) is a two-year
educational programme primarily aimed at 16-to-19-year-olds in 140 countries
around the world. The programme provides an internationally accepted
qualification for entry into higher education and is recognized by many universities
worldwide. Administered by the International Baccalaureate (IB), the IBDP is
taught in schools in over 140 countries, in one of three languages: English, French,
or Spanish. In order to participate, students must attend an IB school. IBDP
students complete assessments in six subjects, one from each subject group, and
three core requirements. Students are evaluated using both internal and external
assessments, and courses finish with an externally assessed series of examinations,
usually consisting of two or three timed written tests. Internal assessment varies by
subject: there may be oral presentations, practical work, or written work. In most
cases, these are initially graded by the classroom teacher, whose grades are then
verified or modified, as necessary, by an appointed external moderator. This
program, which is usually held in certain public schools, is based on B1-B2 English
and the grade point average of the last two years. Students whose average grade
point average is 80 and above are evaluated. There are also interviews and
exams. The exam threshold is 190. Upgrade exams can also be taken. Upgrade
exams are free. Those who have passed these exams can leave by paying 20-25
thousand Canadian dollars for 1 year. They also stay with voluntary families
wherever they go. In addition, the 12+1 program is applied for 12th graders.

My first trip was to Germany. First, we went to Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe, the
landscape park in Kassel. It is the largest hillside park in Europe. We also saw Hercules,

one of the known monuments there. Then we went to the Schokoladenmuseum,
which is the production place of chocolate in Cologne. We tasted delicious
chocolates from chocolate brands there. Our next stop was the zoo, in the

seen before and took photos with them. We had an opportunity to see Dom church,

which is on the UNESCO world heritage list, also known as the Cologne cathedral.

LIFE

In this part I would like to share my
Erasmus+ experience with you. I
attended this program when I was in
middle school and at 6th grade. I
was in Bucharest/Romania. We
stayed there about a week with my 4
teachers and 5 friends.
I stayed with a host family during
the week. And I made lots of
European friends. I visited lots of
historical places and had a change
to discover the city.

SKILLS

This experience gave me a lot of
speaking, debating, writing skills.
When I was there I had gone the
theatre with other attendees. We
always ate together, chatted with
each other, and debate some topics
during the week. And we got some
English lessons too. It was a lovely
experience for me and I would like to
attend an Erasmus project again and
again. This is an experience that every
high school student should take.

Education of Children in the
Developing World

Topic Background

There is a wide understanding that early childhood years are the basis for later life.
Brain researchers say that the development of individuals is the strongest during the first
years spent in primary education. Despite general knowledge of its importance, the
extent to which children have access to free education differs greatly around the world.
From a historical perspective, the world went through a great expansion in education
over the past two
centuries. This can be seen across all statistics. Global literacy rates have been climbing
over the past two hundred years, mainly through increasing rates of enrollment in
primary education. Secondary and tertiary education have also experienced extreme
growth, global average years of schooling are much higher now than a hundred years
ago.
Despite all these worldwide improvements, some countries have been lagging, mainly in
sub-Saharan Africa, where there are still countries that have literacy rates below 50%
among the youth.

Past Action

In the past five years, funding requests for education in emergencies have increased by
21%. Additionally, in 2016, education in emergencies received 2.7% of humanitarian aid,
well below the target of 4%. Low-income countries still exhibit that an average of 80%
of their children are out of school. A big part of the problem is a lack of investment, by
governments in low and middle-income countries, in early learning and education. Of
course, natural disasters are also to blame as many facilities have been lost due to
earthquakes and floods, but there are often no funds available to prevent such events.
According to the World Bank, each year of education reduces the risk of conflict by
around 20%, so it could be wise for governments to invest more money into structuring
their educational systems.
In many developing states, there has been a significant increase in primary school
attendance, largely thanks to UNICEF and its partners' efforts. 264 million out of school
may seem like a high number but compared to the 374 million children in the year
before, it is obvious that great progress has been made. Unfortunately, due to outbreaks
of war in many of these states, schools, and facilities established by the fund have been
destroyed and children find themselves without a place to study and learn.

Possible S
olutions

UNESCO's former director general Irina Bokova stated: "Our focus must be on
inclusion from the earliest age and right through the learning cycle, on policies
that address the barriers at every stage, with special attention to girls who still
face the greatest disadvantage".

It is important to have more transparency to improve the situation for children
across the world. Only one in six governments releases annual education monitoring
reports. Without clear figures, it is impossible to see how much progress has been
made toward providing all children with quality education. Most of the funding for
development projects comes from donations from states. The money travels through
many channels to reach its destination.

World Bank and national governments like Germany's should take a close look at the
development aid they payout to ensure that the money is not only going into short-
term projects but in fact, supports the Sustainable Development Goals. Governments
play an important role in implementing the measures needed to achieve the SDGs.
With this responsibility, they should invest in infrastructure to improve their educational
systems and ensure a higher literacy rate. It may be sensible to approach the issue
from a different angle: the parents. Providing parents with the incentive to send their
children to school, for example through financial aid, could significantly decrease the
number of children that are excluded from education.

Currently, many teachers are unable to receive a steady income due to structural
deficits in their countries, so they receive money from parents directly. However,
many cannot afford this and do not see education as vital to survival.
There is a wide range of ways parents could be persuaded to understand the
importance. Girls, on average, have less of a chance to go to school than boys. This
is often due to social norms and political repression. Closing the gender gap and
allowing young girls a primary education is predicted to ensure a more skilled labor
force and therefore a stronger economy. It is important to raise awareness of the
gap and work to close it, by ensuring safe access to education for young girls around
the world.

!!SOME CHANGES IN
THE UNIVERSITY EXAM!!

In Turkey, students settle into university with two
steps: TYT and AYT exams. The exam for the first 2
years of 4-year high school education is TYT, and the
exam for the last 2 years is AYT.
On February 11th, YOK (council of higher education )
announced that the duration of the TYT exam, which
was given for 135 minutes, was extended by 30
minutes to 165 minutes.
In addition, the threshold point system has been
removed. This means that anyone who takes the
exam can now be a university student.

While this situation worried some students, it provided relief for others.

I am sure that they will prepare it so hard :(

THE 4TH FEBRUARY

WORLD CANCER DAY

Written By: Ahmet Kerem Nergis 11/B

About World Cancer Day

World Cancer Day is an international day marked on 4 February to raise awareness of cancer
and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment. World Cancer Day is led by the
Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) to support the goals of the World Cancer
Declaration, written in 2008. The primary goal of World Cancer Day is to significantly reduce
illness and death caused by cancer and is an opportunity to rally the international community to
end the injustice of preventable suffering from cancer. The day is observed by the United
Nations.
World Cancer Day targets misinformation raises awareness and reduces stigma. Multiple
initiatives are run on World Cancer Day to show support for those affected by cancer. One of
these movements is #NoHairSelfie, a global movement to have "participants" shave their heads
either physically or virtually to show a symbol of courage for those undergoing cancer
treatment. Images of participants are then shared all over social media. Hundreds of events
around the world also take place.

DEBATE
HOW AND WHY?

Prepared By: Ömer Alp Şiringöz 11/A

Debating is a form of discussion. From the beginning of civilization, people are
debating. They debate to solve problems, they debate to prove some things.
We can see debating forms anywhere. On TV shows, in our school, in politics,
etc. Even though debating seems to be redundant, it affects our lives more
than we think.
Debating in various forms has a long history and can be traced back to the
philosophical and political debates of Ancient Greece, such as Athenian
democracy or Shastrartha in Ancient India. Modern forms of debating and the
establishment of debating societies occurred during the Age of Enlightenment
in the 18th century.
We also do debates in our casual talks. As a simple debate, when we talk to a
group of people or a person, we show arguments, then the others shop
counter-arguments. That’s how we people make conclusions. The debate also
is used in politics. Nearly all democratic countries are governed by simple
debate rules.
In conclusion, debating is important. So give importance to it. Because one
day, you may face a situation that you need to debate. Get ready.

INDIE ROCK

YNDI HALDA
Yndi Halda is an English post-rock band from Kent,
England. "Yndi Halda" is Old Norse for "Enjoy Eternal

Bliss", also the name of their debut release. They
agreed to interview with us for our Philosophy

Magazine Academia.

In general, every artist has their special inspiration, a word, a motto, or a
sentiment; what is yours? One thing that makes you wanna make art?

I can't speak for the rest of the band, but I know my own: I practice music in
search of meaning. I'm forever perplexed by the human condition and our
purpose. My purpose, even. But I know that I can make sense of life with music.
I know that the context of creative arts can define emotional expression in a
uniquely meaningful way and that helps pull the complexities and challenges
of life into a kind of order.

Why is the band called Yndi Halda?

The name comes from a line of an ancient Norse sacred poem named Odin's
Raven Magic. We attended an orchestral adaptation of the poem by the
Icelandic musician Hilmar Orn Hilmarsson when we were teenagers, at which
we were given a copy of the text. One of the lines - yndi halda - translates to
"enjoy eternal bliss", which we knew was perfect for our band without a second
of deliberation. It’s been with us since then.

What is the story of the founding of the group?

We all attended the same school. We met as boys in school uniforms, aged 11.
We learned our instruments together, shared records, rehearsed and wrote
music in our family homes, played football and Nintendo 64, played jokes on
each other, dating each other's sisters, skipped classes, and everything else.
We've been sharing our lives for over twenty years and we're as close as
brothers.

Who are the musicians that inspire you?
This is a difficult question! I'm a very greedy listener. Here are some records
that are currently important to me:
Paul McCartney - Ram Joan Baez - Diamonds and Rust Beck - Morning Phase
Helado Negro - This Is How You Smile Sam Gendel - Fresh Bread KMRU - Peel
Nina Simone - Pastel Blues Karen Dalton - In My Own Time Erika de Cassier -
Essentials Digable Planets - Blow Out Comb Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power
- Lamin Fofana - Black Metamorphosis

What is your perspective on philosophy as a musician? Do you think you
touch on philosophy in your music?

I studied philosophy (twice!) and so I'm sure it is bound up into my musical
practice, but it's difficult to say how explicitly it influences my creative
processes. Sometimes I think of music as "anti-philosophy" - it is intuitive and
uncalculated instead of considered and deliberate. Sometimes I think of music
as pure philosophy - it helps us tease out and reveal a fundamental truth about
the human condition or the cosmos we inhabit, and thus understand life a little
better.

What are the philosophers and philosophical approaches that you are
influenced by?

I'm mostly interested in modern and 20th-century thinkers, personally. I like
Quine, Putnam, Nussbaum, Popper, Barthes, Kuhn. But I left university over a
decade ago and don't dedicate anywhere near as much time to it now as I did
then. I mostly read fiction now, with only occasional philosophical works
thrown in when a subject interests me. If you're interested, the last pure
philosophy text I read (in summer 2021) was Mindsight by Colin McGinn.

What do you think about the place of philosophy in the world today?

I believe everyone should have access to philosophy and I feel the philosophical
method should inform educational curricula. I think the world would benefit
from a program offering children the tools to reason critically and
considerately. I feel the world is suffering from scarcity and want of critical
reasoning. The ubiquity of misinformation and manipulated public messages,
for example, needs to be addressed, and introducing the philosophical method
into early education could help with this.

What is your advice to young people?

Do.
Don't wait around for the perfect moment.

FACEBOOK/META

Mark Zuckerberg, the founder, and CEO of Facebook stated that the Facebook name
did not adequately describe the future of the company, and confirmed the name
change that had previously leaked to the press. The 'metaverse', enables users to
connect to a world that exists on the internet. The metaverse concept, which came to
the fore with billions of dollars of investment plans by companies such as Facebook,
Microsoft, Roblox, and Epic, is seen as the next stage in the development of the
internet. Companies looking for new ways to make money from technology promise a
fictional universe where people can access the internet with the metaverse.

WHAT DOES METAVERSE MEAN?

The metaverse, which is seen as an enhanced version of virtual reality technology, is
also described as a fictional universe. The word metaverse is formed by the
combination of the words "meta" (meaning beyond) and "universe". The term also
appeared in Neal Stephenson's 1992 science fiction novel Snow Crash. Metaverse
offers a shared 3D virtual environment where people can shop, subscribe to services,
collaborate with colleagues, play games, and even customize the surrounding
landscape to their tastes and needs. Metaverse allows people to enter the digital
world rather than the digital realm. For example, users can project themselves
elsewhere in the form of a hologram. It is stated that the Metaverse can be imagined
as an embodied internet that one can enter instead of just looking at it. It is noted that
the metaverse, which will be based on reality, will allow users to interact with each
other with real human images by digitizing their real physical environment, unlike
cartoonish avatars in pre-created virtual worlds. It is known that the concept of
metaverse has been depicted in numerous movies and video games such as The
Matrix, Pokemon Go, Minority Report, Ralph Breaks The Internet, Black Mirror. Facebook
executives define the metaverse as an environment where people can feel like they
are together while playing games or doing research.

At the stage of digital
technology, everybody thinks
that in the future people will
lead a life in a virtual universe.
For this reason, Facebook and
other technology companies
have started to invest in these
issues. In this sense, Facebook

went a step further and
changed the name of the

company to "meta".

WHAT IS META?
The new name of Facebook, Meta, which comes from the
word 'Metaverse', means 'beyond the normal'. The verse comes
from 'universe' which means 'universe'. About the new name,
the company said, “Metaverse is the next evolution of social
connectivity. Our company's vision is to help bring the meta-
universe to life, so we are changing our name to reflect our

commitment to this future.”

A QUICK INTRODUCTION
TO ELDEN BLOOD OF
SEKIRO'S SOULS

Written By: Deniz GENÇYUVA 10/A

Souls games are Action-RPG games made by a Japanese video game developer, From Software which have started
with Demons' Souls and is continuing with Elden Ring. These games are known to be very hard with no difficulty
setting. Unlike what the video-game market would suggest, the Souls series has sold 27 million, Sekiro sold 5 million,
Bloodborne sold 2 million, and Demon's Souls sold around 1 million by 2020.

Aside from harsh difficulty, these games are also known for reactive controls, hidden but deep and rich lore, jolly
NPC's with only English dialogue (which is strange considering this is a Japanese game), good area and enemy design,
a dark & sorrowful and bad hair & face graphics. Series also has a strange, helpful and dumb community, and if you
don't agree with "dumb" just go to a Souls group and say "Dark Souls 2 bad/good!" with some back-up and you will see
I'm right.

Now you may wonder "Why am I reading this?"
answer is simple, you are about to see 15 pages of
Souls content after this page. So get yourself ready for
epicness, coolness, good & awesome writing, and 2
pages of pure hate for Dark Souls 2!

Last words before closing... These pages are not an
actual critic of the games, they are just a quick
introduction and a suggestion to start playing these
games. If you want an actual critic to these games,
check out Matthewmatosis and MauLer's Dark Souls
critics.

Wait, wait, wait... Before finishing this page, I have a question. Can anyone please explain to me what's up with the
box-arts? Why do all the box-arts in the West have a "dude with a weapon" while Japan has interesting boxes that also
have a relation to the game's emotional status? I guess it's about "general appeal" but I'm sure more people would buy
if all boxes had the Japanese box-art...

of the game's west
box-art. These are too good
that I would paint my
walls with these,
especially Dark Souls
3's art.

Demons's

Souls

The one who

started it all...

Ahh... Demons' Souls, the original one... There isn't that much I can say about this one overall... But
on the other side, it only has just 3 big problems, most important is the fact that it feels like a Mario
game when it comes to areas. 5 Archstone's that all have a different tone, a medieval castle, a poison
swamp... But I guess it's better than a particular sequel. The second problem is "angering" the NPC's, if
you deal them a whopping, impressive, impossible, 1 damage they start attacking you. And this isn't
Dark Souls, you can't absolve for your sins. Good luck if you anger a blacksmith because you will
need it. Speaking of blacksmiths, what's up with the upgrade materials? Did they think having 7
different (and variations of 4 if we count Dark Souls 1's blue/red/white Titanites) shards were lame?
Because in this game you have around 50 different shards... And Titanite Lizard of Dark Souls is
better than this game's Titanite Lizards.

Leaving these problems aside, this game is still a Souls game, which means it has awesome
bosses and some "???????" bosses (for example Dragon God) and some gimmick bosses (for
example Storm King) but even those bosses have a charm to them. You all heard this series
is hard right? But can you guess the hardest part of them? Finding photos of the PS3
versions, except comparing PS3 and PS5 versions. Cool, I can always go to the official site
for the photos.

The last thing I want to say before talking about the story is...Give us a PS4 or a PC version!

" Super-Secret" story of the
Souls game may have started
with this one but sadly there
aren't enough videos about it...
But Remake does a good
thing with explaining a bit
more than what the original
Demons' Souls's opening
cinematic had.

Keep your souls with you,
don't throw your controller,
don't carry too much item
when going to Storm-King
fight, and don't mess with the
Old King Doran.

ELDEN RING

GOTY of 2022? Written By: Deniz GENÇYUVA 10/A

Elden Ring or Demons's Souls 6 or Horse Souls is
the new project of Hiddetaka Mizayaki and
George R.R. Martin, which had strange
marketing and more than 2 years of silence
before the "Summer Game Show" of 2021 but
even with this strange marketing strategy and
silence, the game won 8 awards (4 of them are
"Most Anticipated Game") before coming out
and it will come out in 25th of February and we
will start our journey through the unforgiving
and large world of "Lands Between" to become
the Elden and Fashion-Souls Lord! Though you
can't make a successful game without
controversy... Either because "there isn't enough
women" or "there isn't enough race diversity".

But, surprisingly this game's controversy is graphics, which is surprising considering the
release of Dark Souls 2. But I think I shouldn't get surprised after Demons' Souls Remake's
graphics. But we can't forget the timeless and classic controversy, the difficulty of these
games. I have no intention of talking about this since Hidetaka Miyazaki has already
shown he has no intention to add a difficulty modifier in these games but I really want to
see the articles from game journalists about this.

The story is important in every medium (except Star Wars sequels for some reason) but
as you may know, Souls-Games are infamous for hiding their deep and confusing story,
while it's obvious from G. R. R. Martin that story will be more on the focus, I'm sure
hidden parts of lore will have more depth and more things, in general, considering this
game will be a real open world. I can't talk about the story that much since the game
hasn't come out yet but hopefully, I will write my experience and the story pieces I could
find about the lore and the story of the Elden Ring within the next issue.

Thousand's of Elden Ring lies
memes and hollows but the
game is ready to launch
already. I just wish it came
out at its original release date,
the 21st of January. just in
time for the Mid Term
Holiday. I know someone who
didn't experience that 2-year
silence can't understand this
but I'm giving my best shot in
terms of showing it.

On a second note, I can't stop thinking
about their next game. This is their 6th
game that takes place in Middle Age,
after all, I'm just hoping for their next
game to take place sometime after
Middle Age. I don't have a problem with
Middle Age, but I want a little more
diverse environment Like Bloodborne,
Bloodborne 2 would be better, to be
honest. Considering the new Playstation
Blog post, Sony may even buy From
Software and if they do, Bloodborne 2
will probably be the first game of them.

Even though it affected everyone badly, I have to appreciate their dedication to this
infamous privacy, and it paid off more than 3 million wishlists, "strong" pre-orders. Elden
Ring might even be the next hit of the gaming. It has all the great things about previous
games, Power Stance, Twinblades... But we have to wait to see to judge them. So, repair
your Moonlight Sword, leave the "Try tongue but Hole" message, and fasten your seatbelt
because Elden Ring is coming and it will shake the market.

You can't talk about a Souls game without online features and by the looks of it, I'm
expecting the same system as Dark Souls 3. An invading item, -Blue Eye Orb, White
Soapstone, and so forth. But every game comes with a big change. This time's change is the
color of the friendly phantoms. In other games they were all white (with a few exceptions)
and the hostile phantoms were all red (also with a few exceptions) but this time phantoms
are orange. Is this a sign of a greater change than a color change?

Final Notes; I still can't believe this game is real... I can still remember the surprise I had
when they showed gameplay footage of Elden Ring... That 2-year silence really affected
me and all of the fans but here we are. only 13 days left to have around 100 hours of fun,
poison swamps, horses, and so on... But the real question is, what will replace the "Praise the
Sun" and Solaire of Astora? And the most important part is, unlike most AAA games, this
game looks promising in terms of "being polished in launch" unlike a certain game made by
CD Project Red thanks to Closed Network Test and "Game Informer"s 18-page long article.
That's all the news we have right now... There were only 13 days 'till the release day when I
wrote these and Elden Ring can even come out before this magazine. Heh, still feels
strange... To finish this; I'm hopeful about this game as you may notice from my writing and
tone. Good Luck, Git Gud and don't trust random bald guys especially if they are close to
edges.

So, are you going to

enter the brutal but

magnificent world of

Lands between, or will

you skip this game

because it's too hard?

THE MYSTERY OF 29th FEBRUARY

Not all calendars have long been able to resolve minor errors in the measurement of the length
of the solar year or the problems that arise when dividing a year into months. An answer came to

these problems, which was also the basis for the calendar used today. B.C. In 46 BC, Julius
Caesar, on the suggestion of the Greek astronomer Sosigenes, decided that a year is 365 days
and 6 hours. Accordingly, a year would be calculated over 365 days, the remaining 6 hours would
be added together and 1 day would be added to every fourth year. It turned out over time that
the Julian calendar also had a problem. This was because the actual length of 1 year is not 365
days 6 hours, but about 11 minutes shorter than that. These 11 minutes have led to significant shifts

over the years.

By the 1500s, this shift had increased to 14 days. In 1582, Pope Gregory the 13th ordered that 10
days be dropped from that year. After this date, the Gregorian Calendar started to be adopted

in various countries over time and became common today.

If a year (example 1956) is divisible by four, it will be February 29 that year. But if this dividing
year is also divisible by 100, then February doesn't have 29. However, if this year is divided by

both 400 and 100, this year it will be 29.

Those born on February 29 can only celebrate their birthday at the right time every four years. In
Ireland, February 29 is celebrated as "World Singles Day" for stay-at-home girls.

BEYOND THE BLACKBOARD

Inspired by a true story, “Beyond the Blackboard” is about a 24-year-old
first-time teacher who makes a difference in the lives of the homeless
children she teaches in a shelter’s makeshift classroom. Set in 1987 in
Albuquerque, New Mexico, this movie tells the story of a brand-new teacher
and Mom who is given a tougher than expected teaching job and winds up
teaching homeless children in a school that is housed in a room and called
literally "The School with No Name". She has some personal prejudicial
hurdles to cross before she can be a true teacher for these children and of
course, there are hurdles like the lack of books and supplies.

The movie carries the theme of
respect, patience, passion, and
compassion. It emphasizes the issues
regarding poverty, starvation lack of
support and supplies as well as the
worst scenario in the teaching
environment. I recommend you to
watch this amazing movie.

I am Kaneki Ken from Tokyo Ghoul. When I was 18 I met a girl. Her name was

date she want to kill me. She was a GHOUL! After a big rampage, a lot of pipes
fell on her and she died but I was hurt so bad that doctors transplanted the

Rize’s organs to me and I became a ghoul.

I was so confused. I said How I can be a ghoul. Ghouls eat human meat but
it was impossible for me.

After this tragedy, I met with Touka. She was a ghoul, too. She took me to
Antekiu. In Antekiu everyone was Ghoul but they weren’t killing people, They

ate dead people’s meat to survive. At last, I ate it, too

One day Oomori kidnapped me. He was the most wanted Ghoul in Tokyo. He
tortured me for weeks. Because of stress and pain, my hair turned white and
he cut my fingers. When they healed he cut them again and again, because of

this my nails turned black.

In there I realized something. I was stronger and I killed Oomori. After this, I
joined the Aogiri Tree. Aogiri Tree was the Ghoul Organization that fought
against CCG. We did a big fight against the CCG but they took me and they
brainwashed me. After I remember the old me we did a big fight again and we

won it. We saved Tokyo!

After all I married Touka and now we have a daughter named İchika...
