The current issue of our college magazine Synergy is a combined issue of the Academic Years 2020-21 and 2021-22. These were the turbulent years in the history of entire human race as the COVID-19 pandemic tore apart normal life. Mere survival required a lot of resilience and will power. It was through our collective efforts, empathy and adaptability that we managed to overcome these trying times. It taught us to value even the smallest blessing in our life and cherish each and every moment of our life. As we came out of the shadow of those pandemic years, in the pages of our magazine, we seek to document and share our individual and collective experiences—the tales of our sorrows, nightmares and hopes. This is an artistic chronicle of our journey through darkness to the light. I congratulate Dr. Manisha Patil and her editorial team of staff and students for burning the midnight’s oil to create this wonderful magazine. Wishing the Team Synergy incremental accomplishment in their future efforts. Principal Dr. Pushpinder G. Bhatia DESK FR OM PRI N CIPAL'S

The term ethical vegan is often applied to those who extend the philosophy beyond diet into other areas of their lives. Vegan diets tend to be higher in dietary fiber, magnesium, folic acid, vitamin C, vitamin E, iron, and phytochemicals, and lower in dietary energy, saturated fat, cholesterol, long-chain omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D, calcium, zinc, and vitamin B12. Wellplanned vegan diets can reduce the risk of some types of chronic disease including heart disease. Vegan diets are regarded as appropriate for all stages of the life-cycle by the American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council, and Dietitians of Canada. Because uncontaminated plant foods do not provide vitamin B12 (which is produced by microorganisms such as bacteria), researchers agree that vegans should eat B12- fortified foods. 17TH AAVISHKAR RESEARCH CONVENTION (ZONE2) 21STDECEMBER 2022 INAUGURATION CEREMONY The Inauguration Function started at 10 am in the College Auditorium and was presided over by Shri. 3. Workshop on Green Planters from Plastic waste. Disposable plastic bottles pollute landfills and water bodies. As this plastic degrade, they break down into microplastics that produce carcinogenic toxins which endanger marine life. One way to help reduce plastic waste is to use them for gardening. Plastic bottles can be used as planters since they are easily available and are durable. Reusing waste bottles to make unique and lovely flower pots at home create an eco-friendly environment and preserve the natural balance. In order to create an awareness regarding the use of plastic bottles as planters, a workshop on ‘Green Planters from Plastic waste’ was organized by Environmental Mentoring Committee and Department of Botany on 19-7-2022. Ms. Rashmi Joshi, Environment Consultant was the resource person. The resource person explained the importance of this technique and sensitize the students regarding this gardening technique which helps in creating a greener environment. She demonstrated the procedure of preparation of green planters. The students were given hands on training in this technique. Students prepared planters of different shapes and used their creativity to decorated them. 33 students participated in this workshop. Feedback was collected from the students and they were given participation certificate. Environmental Mentoring Committee Environment constitutes a very important part of our life. All human activities have an impact on environment. Environmental education is the need of the hour. Keeping this in mind the Environmental Mentoring Committee was constituted as a part of Institutional Social Responsibility with the goal of sensitizing the students and through them the community towards various environmental issues. The following activities were conducted during the academic year 2022-2023: 1. Composting project Compost is decomposed organic material, such as leaves, grass clippings, and kitchen waste. It provides many essential nutrients for plant growth and therefore is often used as fertilizer. Compost also improves soil structure so that soil can easily hold the correct amount of moisture, nutrients and air.Composting can play a significant role in diverting waste from landfills thereby conserving landfill space and reducing the production of leachate and methane gas. Our college has signed an MOU with Environment Consultant Ms. Rashmi Joshi who guides us for our composting project. Composting is carried out in compost pit which is installed on the ground floor and also in barrels which are kept on the terrace. The garden waste is composted in the compost pit and the wet waste generated from the canteen is composted in the barrels. Non-teaching staff Mr. Jeeva takes care of the project under the supervision of Ms. Rashmi Joshi. The organic manure obtained from the composting process is used as fertilizer for the plants, garden and green house in the college. 2. Paper Recycling Recycling paper conserves natural resources, saves energy, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and keeps landfill space free for other types of trash that can't be recycled. The primary product used to make paper is wood pulp. Recycling paper reduces the amount of wood pulp needed, and that in turn, reduces the number of trees that are cut down. As a part of implementation of sustainable waste management and recycling initiative a MOU of reutilizing waste paper was signed with NGO Sampurn(E)arth Environment Solutions Private Limited (SESPL). As per the MOU for every Kg of recyclable waste collected the college will gain certain Green Points. Against the accumulated Green Points, the college can avail stationery made using 100% recycled paper. The newspapers from library and waste paper collected from office, examination unit and other departments were given for recycling. During the academic year, 735 kg of waste paper was given for recycling. The college received A4 papers from SESPL made from recycled paper. The Themes were: 1. Impact of plastic pollution 2. The soil matter is often a mixture of clay and compost. The seed is, therefore, preplanted and can be sown by depositing the seed ball anywhere as long as the species can survive there. The wrapping mixture keeps the seed safe until it can properly germinate. Seed balls are one of the easiest and sustainable ways of cultivating plants in barren areas. To celebrate the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi, a workshop on preparation of seed balls in the shape of modaks was organized by Environmental Mentoring Committee and Departments of Botany and EVS on 23-8-2022. The resource person was Dr. Shrutika Kumthekar, In-Charge, Department of Botany. So embrace the adventure, live in the moment, and enjoy the ride! - RINKI VERMA TYBAMMC "With huge development projects, comes an huge number of tree cutting orders." The life on earth is sustained because of the presence of trees. From a very long time our luxury is decreasing the plant population. Though globally it is well accepted that trees are the only medium for sustenance of life, climate and more, the projects like cutting-off trees or clearing out a whole forest passes by effortlessly. There are few places where cutting-off trees for the development is said to be very important. The huge projects that requires the land with numbers of old big trees even when they are responsible for the ecosystem. This "very important" is coming at a cost. That cost that'll not just be paid by us, but also our future generations. Replantation or Transplantation are the process of relocating trees from one site to another. Initially foresters and user agencies carry out trials to relocate the trees those are required to be removed. It not only requires heavy machineries but also huge man power. Further the post plantation care is also not an easy job and more over the survival rate is around 50%. This technology that has helped to save atleast that 50% of trees, is worth of putting all the efforts. Another project of Mumbai making an another Airport was required to cut-off more than 600 trees. When the Adv. Pramod Thakkur, Chairman of Shantivan(Panvel) got to know about this issue, he immediately went to all the procedures, offices and orders for replanting those 600 trees in Panvel right beside his Aashram. He tied-up with Treecon Company from Santacurz that looks after with all the procedure for Replantation. From moving to replanting from one site to another, they take care of it with all the required aspects. In order to move a tree it gets important to evaluate whether the tree is healthy enough to move and even after it gets successfully planted it requires the treatment of multiple injections and soil to survive. This effort from Adv. Pramod Thakkur and Trrecon has resulted to give back life to those trees. We need to understand the life of trees is as precious as the life of mother earth. It's the time we need to understand what's okay and what's not, what's necessary what is unnecessary. The luxury is coming at a cost. L u x ury a t a c o s t - NISHA UPADHYAY TYBAMMC

A glimpse into my thoughts Unknown voices screaming Inside my head, If you could hear it probably You'd be dead. In order to calm those noise, I started to raise my voice. Everyone says I have bad How to express? It feels like everyone here is meaner. I don't know how to open up Without being judged, Indeed if I try I'd be snubbed. At times, I feel sad about all I've done and gone through Even get sadder thinking, That no one have never knew. Till the last tears I've cried, through the years I've almost died. I don't know what is it, and why I was made this way, my urge to live slowly fades away. but I know without a doubt, I'll not live to see myself give out. - SHRUTI JAISWAL SYBAMMC BREAKING THE STIGMA Introduction: Mental health is a fundamental aspect of our overall well-being, it signifies a person’s emotional, psychological and social media well-being, yet it is somehow neglected and remains a topic that is often misunderstood or stigmatized. Understanding Mental Health: Mental health encompasses our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It involves how we think, feel, and behave, as well as how we cope with stress and navigate life challenges. Just as we prioritize our physical health, it is crucial to pay attention to our mental well-being. The Impact of Stigma: Sadly, stigma and misconceptions surrounding mental health persist in society. Stigma creates barriers that prevent individuals from seeking help and support. It can lead to feelings of shame, isolation, and discrimination, exacerbating the challenges faced by those experiencing mental health difficulties. It is essential to break the silence and foster an environment of compassion and understanding. Steps in Promoting Mental Well-Being: 1. Open Conversations: Encouraging open conversations about mental health helps to break down stigma. By sharing our own experiences and listening to others without judgment, we create a supportive space for those in need. Education about mental health is key to fostering empathy and dispelling myths. 2. Seeking Help: Just as we seek medical assistance for physical ailments, it is vital to seek help for mental health concerns. Mental health professionals, such as psychologists and counsellors, are trained to provide guidance and support. Seeking help is a sign of strength and self-awareness. 3. Self-Care: Practicing self-care is essential for maintaining mental wellbeing. Engage in activities that bring joy, relaxation, and fulfillment. This can include hobbies, exercise, meditation, or spending time with loved ones. Taking time for oneself is not selfish but crucial for overall health. 4. Managing Stress: Stress is a natural part of life, but excessive or chronic stress can impact mental health.
