Artist Statement

Hi there, I’m Phua Xin Min.
I got inspired to do a story with puppets as
one of my favourite characters from a Light novel series,

she also wields a cute puppet as well.
As the illustrator and author of this storybook,

I hope you all enjoy reading it.

I dedicate this storybook to children
who yearn for friendship than loneliness.

Marionetta is a little girl who always
plays with her puppet friends;
Eins, Zwei, and Drei.

Eins them wondered why Marionetta doesn’t have 02
a friend that is the same size as Marionetta.
So, the puppets asked her to explore the outside
world to make some friends.

Marionetta agreed and packed her puppets
into her backpack, and goes out to make friends.

Marionetta went to the nearest town to her mansion.
It was Marionetta’s first time to arrive a place
that were crowded with many people.

Marionetta then came to a playground,
seeing many children that are around the
same age as her are playing there.
Marionetta feels nervous and hesitate.
Then, her puppet friends cheered and
encouraged Marionetta.

Marionetta walks toward to girl and ask if
she can play with her, which the girl said OK
which made Marionetta happy.

Eins them ask Marionetta to left them home,
so Marionetta can play with the others
without carrying anything.

Marionetta promised to her puppets.
She left them near to the window,

so they can watch whenever Marionetta comes back.

However, Eins, Zwei, Drei do not speak since that day.
Marionetta was sad her friends do not speak
with her again.

Then, Luna, Marionetta’s new friend came into 10
her room and asked if she can make dresses for
her puppets, which Marionetta was very
delighted after hearing that.

Soon, Luna asks Marionetta out to play outside
which she agreed. But before, Marionetta leave
the room with her friend, Marionetta turns and
smiled at her puppets while waving her hand.

Marionetta thanked her puppets for being her friends
when she was alone, now she is not lonely.

Marionetta is a girl who lived alone
with her three puppets.

One day, her puppets suggest Marionetta
to find a new friend which is the same
size as her at outside from her house.

After she agreed, Marionetta
prepared and went out for
making a friend.

Then, Marionetta found herself
to be very nervous and hesitate
to talk with other children...
