een months old. She has grown up with this pageant

John Ryan and Olivia Kate.

Mrs. Tennessee 2017

I will never forget the day that I looked in the
mirror after the deepest, darkest valley of my life with
lupus and didn’t recognize my reflection.

After years of being bedridden, using an electric
wheelchair and cane, losing most of my hair and muscle,
I heard the still, small voice of God calling me to journey
with Him. As we climbed this mountain together, I heard
someone calling my name. I saw a woman crowned in
beauty and splendor above. Her voice echoed throughout
the valley offering hope and encouragement to those be-
low. I knew in my heart that if I could reach the top and
touch her hand that she would teach me how to better
serve God and others.

On March 12, 2017, after a tough but incredible
climb, I was crowned Mrs. Tennessee America 2017. Mrs.
Tennessee and I have had quite an extraordinary year to-
gether and I have tried to make her proud. She has given
me a voice and has blessed me beyond measure. She has been a priceless mentor and I feel blessed
that I have had the once in a lifetime experience of joining hands with her. I thank, you, my God, for
carrying me in your arms to meet her, for I know that without you, meeting her would have been
impossible, Purim.

Thank you to my husband, David, my Mr. Tennessee, our seven precious children, family,
and friends for your unending support and for sharing me and letting my light shine. I love you.

To my directors, Delayna and Caitlin, the Mrs. Tennessee staff and Mrs. America organiza-
tion, volunteers, sponsors, coaches, artists, sister queens, and the Lupus Foundation of America and
the many other organizations that I have served with, thank you. You have changed my life forever
and I am so grateful.

And, to you, the new Mrs. Tennessee, Stay humble, serve wholeheartedly, and enjoy every moment.
For, one day, when the time has come, you will hear the beautiful echo of her voice calling the name
of another.
