WELCOME TO OUR 19TH SEASON!

During this special season celebrating Canada’s sesquicentennial anniversary of Confed-
eration, Music Niagara is pres-enting a variety of musical events that focus on the music
and musical heritage of Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia: the first four
provinces to unite 150 years ago.

We also honour and celebrate the indisputable contributions of our indigenous native
peoples to Canada’s history, music and culture. Barbara Croall, Odawa First Nations
composer, returns as our Composer-in-Residence.

We take pride in the diversity of our programs, featuring Canadian national treasures,
such as Shaw Festival’s Artistic Director Emeritus, Christopher Newton and pianists
André Laplante and Robert Silverman, alongside virtuosos from other parts of the world.
Don’t miss the world renowned Trinity College Cambridge Choir, nor Norwegian Oystein
Baadsvik, the number one tuba player in the world. Canadian jazz legend Guido Basso
joins us along with renowned friends Terry Clark, Dave Young and John Sherwood.
Quartetto Gelato returns to close our festival with its multi-instrument mastery.

As always there is something for everyone, from chamber music to country to new
musical works. Please check out our young virtuosos of the Music Niagara Performance
Academy, look online for our Behind the Scenes of Music announcements, enjoy our
free concerts at Simcoe park and make a reservation for the jazz series at the Epicurean
Restaurant. So much to enjoy — it’s a festival!

Yours truly,

ATIS BANKAS, Artistic Director

Composer-in-Residence: Barbara Croall
Ensemble-in-Residence: Gould String Quartet
