PROGRESS OF LEARNING TO BECOME A TEACHER

MPD- MAJLIS PENGHUNI DESASISWA AMAN DAMAI (USM)

During my first year I took the opportunity to be part of the Majlis Penghuni
Desasiswa Aman Damai (MPDAD) association. I have gained a lot of experience
from my involvement in the association. Among them, I am responsible for
managing the competition participants involved under my department. I also
learned how to manage an event. It actually helps me to be a responsible person in
carrying out an activity that is really needed in a teacher.

PGA 103-TEACHER, SCHOOL AND SOCIETY

(TADIKA AL AZHAR- PULAU PINANG)

These picture shows our first project implemented in one of the kindergartens in
Penang. There are so many things that I've learned, to become a good teacher. The
first thing that I’ve learned is we need to know who will be our students, so that we
can manage them easily. I also learned how to attract the attention of students
during the process of teaching. For example, we can attract students by teaching
them sing in different languages, and I could see that they really enjoyed the
singing. There, I also learned how to prepare teaching aids. From that, I was able to
learn the basic things a teacher needs to manage a class.

PGA 102 ADOLESCENTS INTRAPERSONAL AND INTERPERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
(SEKOLAH MENENGAH TELUK KUMBAR 2)

The project has been done at Sekolah Menengah Teluk Kumbar 2. The purpose of
this project is to help us as prospective teachers to feel the real situation of being
in school and help us to improve our intepersonal skills as teachers to connect with
students. In presenting the title of our lesson, “Sifar Ponteng”, we have designed
several activities, so that it looks more interesting and can be easily accepted by
students. From there, I learned that it is important to formulate a policy first before
conducting a lesson. I also learned that the activity to be implemented must be
appropriate to the topic of the lesson, for example the activities we do are
introductory sessions, watching our acting videos related to the topic of the lesson
and brainstorming sessions. From this, I have also learned that as a teacher we need
to give clear instructions so that it can be understood by students and can smooth
the teaching process. This project also helps us as prospective teachers to build
confidence in delivering lessons.

WBM202-RED CRESCENT FIRST AID TRAINING 2

During my second year I’ve been selected to become Penolong Komandan in Bulan
Sabit Merah Malaysia (BSSM) USM. I have learned many things from this
association. As a Penolong Komandan every week, I need to take turns with my
chief to lead the parade. I also need to train new students to march by giving clear
instructions so that they can understand and be able to carry out the marching
activities perfectly. In this Association I am also given the responsibility to train new
students to learn various types of bandages to treat various injuries. From this, my
involvement in this association actually helped me to be a more courageous person
and cultivate self -confidence to deal with people.

PGT 201E –INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY PRACTICE

This project is done to train me to be a creative teacher in conducting teaching and
learning. Before creating this game we need to draw up a lesson plan first and relate
it to the games that we want to produce. In drafting the lesson plan we have
referred to the materials that are used by teachers today such as textbooks and the
questions that we produced for this game are used by teachers in their teaching.
For example, we have chosen the mathematics subject of the topic of polygons. So
we have come up with a game that is shaped like a monopoly. It really trained me
to be a teacher who is responsible in delivering teaching.

PGT 219- INTRODUCTION TO TEACHING METHODS IN THE HUMANITIES

GAMES BASED LEARNING

This had trained me to be a teacher who multitask in teaching to ensure a good
teaching process. This implemented project helps us to think more critically about
the games we want to produce that are relevant to the topic of teaching and make
it more interesting. As we know that History is considered a boring subject
therefore we as teachers need to change the perception of students by making the
learning of the subject more meaningful and easy for them to follow. This project
is Games Based Learning, we need to design what to teach by choosing topics that
can be tailored to the game we want to create. The subject we have chosen is
History Form 1. It’s such an interesting because we want to teach History at the
same time we want the student had fun with this teaching process. The games
created are intended to help students to more easily understand learning topics.

PGT203- COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS FOR TEACHERS

This project has placed me in a group of varying ages, races and states. Based on
this project also I have been trained to get along with everyone. From that, i can
improve my communication skills to connect with people. This also helps me to get
to know them more closely. As a teacher we need to start the step of getting to
know our students and try to be friendly with the students. From that students will
start to get close to us and be able to respect us as teachers. From this subject I’ve
learned how to be a good teacher not only while deliver message but also when
you are being a classroom teachers. We need to be a responsible teacher to make
sure our students can get the lesson comfortly. This is linked when we are given the
task of decorating a classroom by creating elements of 21st century learning. It can
also train me as a prospective teacher to choose materials that are appropriate for
the age of the students in decorating a classroom.

PERMATA- PERKUMPULAN MAHASISWA/I ANAK TERENGGANU

In my third year journey, I am an Exco of Academic and Integrity. In my department,
many activities are carried out, among them is the short story competition, I have
become a registration committee. As a registration committee I have to be a very
meticulous person with the required information from each participant. My
selection as the mover to the competition proved that people believed in the
results of my work who saw being able to carry out a given task well.

PGT 224- HISTORY TEACHING METHODS I

In year three I was exposed in more detail to the methods of teaching history. For
example I have got a teaching method assignment titled stimulus variation skills,
based on the title I have been given the exposure that during the teaching and
learning process stimuli can occur to teachers and students. For a teacher they
need to ensure that the tone of voice is clear and not horizontal so that the teaching
is given clearly. As a teacher we also need to pay attention to the movement of our
limbs which plays a very important role in teaching, we can’t just stand upright in
front of students while teaching instead teachers need to move close to students
once in a while. The methods I learned based on this subject were indeed able to
train me to handle the class well.
