Lazy Raghu Mama Author: Vidya Pradhan Illustrator: Rohit Kelkar Re-level: Meenakshi Khanna
Knock, knock! Amma opened the door. “Raghu Mama!” Amish and Soni cried. They gave him a big hug. 2/18

Raghu Mama always told the best stories. He brought Amish and Soni fun presents. But there was one problem with Raghu Mama. 4/18
Raghu Mama was lazy! He would sit in his chair for hours and hours and hours, reading or watching TV. Or just sleeping. He would not do any work around the house. He would not go to the market to buy food. Amma was fed up of his laziness. 5/18
“So, Raghu,” said Amma. “Are you going to sit in your favourite chair all the time?” "Oh no!" said Raghu Mama. "I'm going to explore caves that are underwater. I'm going to climb tall mountains. I'm going to chase tigers in the jungle!" “Where, where?” said Amish and Soni. “We want to come too!” “Hah!” said Amma. “What a joke!” Raghu Mama smiled quietly. 6/18
The next day Amish and Soni heard Raghu Mama talking to someone. “Wow!” he said. Then, “That’s AMAZING!” A little later, “OH NO!” The children ran into his room. “What happened, Raghu Mama?” 7/18
Raghu Mama was in his favourite chair. He was wearing a pair of big black goggles. There was no one else in the room! Soni and Amish looked at each other. “Is everything okay, Mama?” Amish asked. Mama laughed. He took off the goggles. “Try this,” he said to Soni. “What is it?” asked Soni. The goggles were heavy. She had to hold them with both hands. 8/18
Raghu Mama put the goggles on Soni’s face. The goggles were dark and she couldn’t see anything. Then Mama pressed a button. Suddenly Soni was in the ocean! There were colourful fish all around. There was a big turtle swimming beside her. "WOW!" said Soni. Then she turned her face to the other side . . . “Eek!” she cried as a big shark swam very close to her. 9/18
10/18
“Let me see, let me see!” said Amish. “It is your turn now, Amish,” said Raghu Mama. Amish put the goggles on. Mama pressed a button. Amish was in a forest full of trees. He could hear different bird sounds. “Ooh!" he said, "I can see chital! I can see langurs!” 11/18
12/18
“It feels so real,” said Soni. “When I wore the goggles I thought I was swimming underwater!” “Yes,” said Raghu Mama. “It is called ‘Virtual Reality’.” “But ‘virtual’ means ‘not real’.” Soni said. “You're right,” said Raghu Mama. “It is Virtual Reality. You thought you were in the ocean, right? It was almost real.” “It is like watching a movie,” said Soni. “Yes,” said Mama. “When we wear Virtual Reality goggles, it feels like the movie is all around us.” 13/18
14/18
"Do you want to explore Virtual Reality with me?" asked Raghu Mama. Amish and Soni thought for a bit. “We like the REAL thing,” they said. “But why??” Raghu Mama asked. “I saw a juicy mango in the jungle,” said Amish. “And now I want to eat one. I can’t eat the mango in the jungle. I can eat the mango in the kitchen.” “I want one too!” said Soni. Both of them ran to the kitchen. “Wait for me!” said Raghu Mama. He jumped off his chair and ran after them. 15/18
