Assalamualikum & Hello!
Given name is Mira Izzatie binti Rahim, you can call me Mira.

Born in 1998 at Pulau Pinang.
I’m an art student ever since high school and continue with Diploma Graphic
Designer major in Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Merbok, Kedah branch.

I continue to persue my studies at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Seri
Iskandar, Perak in Bachelor Degree Graphic Designer.

Up until now, my passion in drawing grows even deeper as I grow older.
Here I present you my final work for subject GDI625; Contemporary

Illustration
with Freddie Aziz Jasbindar story writing, I have illustrate the folktale of

‘Puteri Limau’ also known as ‘Princess Limau’

e folktale tells a story about a beautiful Princess named Princess
Limau live in Geronggong, Perak. One day, a king from Aceh

came to propose to her.

As the princess agreed to marry him, on her way to King Aceh’s
palace, her ‘Happily ever after’ dream was ruined
because she was a cursed princess?



ere is a folktale about beautiful and
stunning princess. She had long wavy
hair. Clad in a long green dress, with a
smooth and white skin. When she passed
by, she smelled fragrant like a flower; she
got attention wherever she went. She
lived with her father, King Geronggong

in the Palace.

Ada sebuah kisah dongeng tentang seorang puteri yang
cantik dan menawan. Dia berambut panjang yang

beralun. Berbaju dan gaun hijau yang labuh. kulit yang
licin dan putih. Apabila Puteri itu lalu, dia berbau
harum seperti sekuntum bunga, dia mendapat

perhatian di mana saja dia pergi. Dia tinggal bersama
ayahnya, Raja Geronggong di Istana.

One day, a King came with
an entourage to the Palace
of King Geronggong to
meet with Princess Limau.
But Princess Limau was
not there at the time of the
King's arrival. And so the
King, King Aceh, met King
Geronggong to convey his
wish.

Satu hari, seorang Raja datang
dengan rombongan ke Istana
Raja Geronggong untuk berjumpa
dengan Puteri Limau. Akan tetapi
Puteri Limau tiada pada waktu
ketibaan Raja tersebut. Maka Raja
itu, Raja Aceh, berjumpa dengan
Raja Geronggong untuk
sampaikan hajatnya.



King Aceh and his party were gathered in
the rone Room to convey why King
Aceh came from his palace only to meet
with Princess Limau.
King Geronggong asked, "Tell me,
what is your reason to be here?"

King Aceh spoke his wish "I came here to
propose to Princess Limau."

Raja Aceh dan rombongan-nya berkumpul di Balairong
Seri untuk menyampaikan apa hajat Raja Aceh datang
dari istananya hanya untuk berjumpa dengan Puteri
Limau.
Raja Geronggong bertanya,
“Apa hajat Tuan Raja kemari?”

Maka Raja Aceh pun berkata
“Aku datang kemari untuk
merisik Puteri Limau.”

King Geronggong was surprised, his daughters were so well-known that even
King Aceh also came to his palace. Raja Geronggong informed that Puteri

Limau was not in the palace at the moment, so the answer could not be given.

"Alright, King Aceh. I will let her know of your proposal. If she accepts your
proposal, I will send her along with her maid to your palace. "

Aceh King returned with his party, hoping that Princess Limau will accept his
proposal.

Sungguh tidak sangka Raja Geronggong, Anakandanya begitu dikenali ramai hingga ke Raja Aceh juga
datang. Raja Geronggong memberi tahu bahawa Puteri Limau tiada di istana buat masa sekarang, maka

jawapannya tidak dapat di beri.

“Baik lah Raja Aceh. Beta akan sampaikan risikan Tuan Raja kepada Puteri Limau. Sekiranya dia
menerima risikan Tuan Raja, akan beta hantar Puteri bersama dayangnya ke istana Tuan Raja.”

Raja Aceh pun pulang bersama rombongan-nya, mengharapkan risikan-nya di terima oleh Puteri Limau.

After King Aceh departed, Princess
Limau had arrived at the palace to see
her father.

"Father wants to see me?" Princess
Limau appeared straight in front of
her father. Her father tells what
happened when the princess was not
in the palace. He told about King
Aceh and his proposal.

Setelah Raja Aceh berangkat pergi, Puteri Limau
pun tiba di istana berjumpa dengan Ayahnda-nya.

“Ayahnda hendak berjumpa anakanda?”
Puteri Limau pun muncul terus menuju
ke Ayahnda-nya. Raja Geronggong pun
menceritakan apa yang terjadi sewaktu Puteri
tiada di istana, tentang Raja Aceh dan
risikan-nya.

“I do! I accept his proposal, father! ”

Princess Limau was so excited. In her mind, she
wanted to calm her soul by having a picnic by the river.
Without objection, King Geronggong told all of their

people to get the boat ready to sail to
King Aceh’s palace.

e Princess, her nanny and her maids prepared
all of their belongings into the boat.

“Anakanda terima! Anakanda terima risikan-nya, ayahnda!”

Puteri Limau begitu teruja. Dalam mindanya dia
ingin menenangkan jiwanya dan berkelah di tepi sungai.
Tanpa bantahan, Raja Geronggong pun mengarah hamba

mereka untuk bersiap-siapkan perahu untuk ke
istana Raja Aceh.

Puteri, Inang pengasuh dan dayang-dayangnya
bersiap segala alat-alat perkelahan ke dalam perahu.



e Princess sailed along with several boats, while stopping
by villages next to the river. Every village they passed by, the

villagers would welcome her by giving lots of gift such as
rice, vegetables and others filling in the boat.

Angkatan tuan Puteri dengan beberapa buah perahu, sambil singgah ke
merata-rata kampung di tepi sungai. Semua tempat yang disinggah,

orang-orang kampung meraikan kedatangan-nya dengan memberi hadiah
yang banyak seperti beras, sayur-sayuran dan lain-lain sahingga
penuh dalam perahu itu.

en, they arrived at a place and they went ashore to rest. ey were are all
getting ready for picnic and lunch. e maids and nanny started doing their
work. All seemed to be busy except for the Princess, she with her kind nature,

wanted to help them.
"My maids, can I help you with anything?" e Princess looked at them.

"Princess! No need your highness, go ahead and rest."
Her maid refused her kind offer.

"But I wanted to help." e Princess, once again asked to help.

Kemudian, mereka tiba ke satu tempat dan mereka naik ke darat untuk berehat. Mereka bersiap-siap untuk
berkelah dan makan tengah hari. Dayang-dayang dan inang pengasuhnya pun membuat kerja

masing-masing. Semua kelihatan sibuk, Puteri dengan sifatnya yang baik hati, hendak membantu mereka.
“Dayang-dayang, boleh ka beta membantu kalian?” Puteri menjenguk mereka.

“Tuan Puteri! Tidak mengapa, pergi lah Puteri berehat.” Dayangnya menolak tawaranya.
“Tapi beta hendak menolong.” Puteri sekali lagi memujuk.

" ere is no need, your highness. Go rest, we will prepare
meal for you quickly. " Her nanny said.

“Tidak mengapa Tuan Puteri. Pergi lah berehat, kami siapkan makan
segera.” Inang pengasuhnya berkata.

e princess went and sat on a rock near the river. She took a cool and clean
breeze while calming her soul. en, suddenly King Aceh’s name crossed her

mind, Princess Limau’s face felt warm.
"What would King Aceh look like I wonder? Will King Aceh

love who I am?"
Questions played around in her mind as she sigh.
Her mind kept playing; she dreamed that she is at picnic near the river that
is close to King Aceh’s palace. Along with her maids, her nanny and her
future husband; King Aceh. She felt excited. en she saw a butterfly flying

in front of her eyes.

Puteri pun pergi dan duduk di atas batu yang berdekatan dengan sungai. Dia mengambil angin yang
sejuk dan bersih sambil menenangkan jiwanya. Kemudian secara tiba-tiba name Raja Aceh melintasi

mindanya, muka Puteri Limau terasa hangat.
“Bagaimana agaknya rupa Raja Aceh? Adakah Raja Aceh akan sukakan beta?”

Soalan bermain-main di fikirannya sambil menghembuskan nafas gelisah.
Mindanya terus bermain, dia impikan suasana dia berkelah di tepi sungai yang berdekatan istana
Raja Aceh. Berkelah bersama dayang-dayang, inang pengasuh dan bakal suaminya, Raja Aceh. Dia

berasa teruja. Kemudian dia terlihat seekor rama-rama berterbangan di depan matanya.

“Hello, dear butterfly. Your
wings are so beautiful, dear
butterfly.” en she stretched
out her finger, the butterfly
perched on her finger. e
Princess continued to laugh
sweetly. Another butterfly came,
and then three more came.
More and more butterflies were
flying around her.

“Hai, wahai rama-rama. Begitu cantik
sayap engkau, rama-rama.” Lalu dia
menghulurkan jarinya, rama-rama tersebut
hinggap di jarinya. Puteri terus tertawa
manis. Seekor lagi rama-rama tiba,
kemudian tiga ekor datang lagi dan lagi.
Semakin banyak rama-rama beterbangan
kelilingi Puteri Limau.

Butterflies flew around her beautifully. e princess laughed happily, when
suddenly her stomach grumbled, Princess Limau felt hungry while playing
with those butterflies. She saw her maid and the nanny host still preparing the

ingredients for cooking.
Princess Limau then left the butterflies and returned to their boat earlier. Her
eyes looked around at what had been filled in the boat. Many gifts have been

given to them by the villagers. She felt very grateful.

Rama-rama beterbangan kelilingnya dengan cantik. Puteri tertawa gembira, tiba-tiba perutnya
berkeroncang, Puteri Limau berasa lapar ketika bermain dengan rama-rama. Dia melihat
dayang-dayangnya dan Inang pengasuh masih menyediakan bahan untuk memasak.

Puteri Limau kemudian meninggalkan rama-rama dan kembali ke perahu mereka tadi. Matanyamelihat
keliling apa yang telah terisi di dalam perahu. Banyak hadiah yang telah penduduk kampung itu beri
kepada mereka. Dia berasa sangat bersyukur.

en something had caught the eye of the Princess Limau. She took that
thing to see more clearly, what is this? e object looked like a long
sugarcane but the skin was dark. e colour was black but a bit purplish. It
was her first time seeing it. She then asked one of her servants. "What is

this?" e servant turned to her, “Oh, your highness… at is a
black sugarcane. e villagers gave it as a gift. ”

Kemudian ada sesuatu yang telah menangkap mata Puteri Limau. Dia terus mengambil untuk
meihat lebih jelas, apakah ini? Kelihatan seperti tebu yang panjang tetapi kulitnya gelap. Hitam
tetapi keunguan. Pertama kali Puteri Limau melihat ia. Dia kemudian bertanya kepada salah
seorang hambanya. “Apakah ini?” Hamba itu menoleh, “Oh, yang mulia… Itu ialah tebu hitam.

Penduduk kampung tadi hadiahkan kepada kita.”

It was interesting to Princess Limau. "Should we cut this?" She asked the
servant, but the servant was busy preparing a place for them to shelter and eat
with the other servants. en, Princess Limau brought the black sugarcane with
her. She stopped at the place where her maids were preparing the ingredients.

en she picked up the knife that lied along with the cooking utensils. e
princess intended to help them by cutting the black sugarcane.

Ia menarik bagi Puteri Limau. “Haruskan kita memotongnya?” Dia bertanya kepada hambanya,
tetapi hambanya sibuk menyediakan tempat untuk mereka berteduh dan makan bersama dengan
hamba yang lain. Lalu Puteri Limau membawa tebu hitam itu bersamanya. Dia menyinggah tempat
dayang-dayangnya yang sedang menyediakan bahan. Kemudian dia mengambil pisau yang terletak
bersama dengan alatan memasak. Puteri itu niat hendak membantu mereka dengan memotong tebu

hitam tersebut.

Princess Limau then sat
down on the ground and
laid down the black
sugarcane.

Puteri Limau lalu duduk
tersimpul dan membaringkan
tebu hitam itu.

en she started thinking, “Hmm… How do I cut this, I wonder? e skin
is also hard. ” Princess Limau chopped the black sugarcane, but the
chopping was too weak and the knife she was holding was small. at is
Princess Limau’s personality, she likes to help others but she is not good at

cooking.
Princess Limau tried to cut the black sugarcane again but harder. Her
right hand holding the knife, she then raised her hand higher and was

ready to chop it.

Kemudian dia mula berfikir, “Hmm… Bagaimana hendak memotong ini ya? Kulitnya juga keras.”
Puteri Limau menetak tebu hitam itu, tetapi tetakannya begitu lemah dan pisau yang dipegangnya

kecil. Itu lah sifat Puteri Limau, dia hanya suka membantu tetapi dia tidak mahir memasak.
Puteri Limau cuba memotong tebu hitam itu sekali lagi tetapi dengan lebih kuat. Tangan kananya
yang memegang pisau itu, dia lalu meninggikan tangannya dan sedia untuk memotong dengan kuat.

"AUCH!" e princess squealed.
Her right index finger was cut by the knife. Princess Limau threw the knife
and held her wounded finger. Suddenly, it crossed her mind, "If my finger

bleeds with white blood… en I’ll die!"

‘Speak of the devil’, Princess Limau's finger began to bleed. e Princess'
face turned pale when her finger bled in white blood. Princess Limau

became speechless, her whole body trembled, and her mind became a mess.

“ADUH!” Puteri itu menjerit.
Terlihat jari telunjuk kanannya terkena dengan anak mata pisau itu. Puteri Limau terus melepaskan
pisau lalu memegang jarinya. Kemudian terlintas di dalam fikirannya, “Jikalau jari aku ini mengalir

darah putih…Maka mangkat lah aku!”

’Pahit Darah’, jari Puteri Limau pun mula berdarah. Muka Puteri bertukar pucat apabila darah yang
mengalir itu berwarna putih. Puteri Limau tidak terkata, seluruh badannya mengeletar, fikirannya
mula bercelaru.



"Your Majesty! Your Majesty!" A servant came running down the King Aceh's
Palace. He looked panicked like he had seen a ghost. He ran in and then bowed

respectfully to King Aceh.

“ Yang Mulia! Yang Mulia!” Seorang hamba datang berlari ke Istana Raja Aceh. Kelihatan cemas seperti
terjumpa hantu. Dia berlari masuk dan terus bersujud hormat kepada Raja Aceh.

"What brings you here?" King Aceh asked the servant.
"Your Majesty, I came from Geronggong Palace along with Princess Limau and
her people." e servant said. King Aceh felt happy and smiled. How wonderful,

he thought Princess Limau had accepted his proposal to marry her. But, the
servant continued by saying “Your Majesty. Princess Limau… is dead. ”
“WHAT !?”

King Aceh stood up. e servant continued to bow down, "F-Forgive me! I just
came here to deliver the message to you! Your Majesty, please spare me! ”

“Apa hajat tuan hamba kemari?” Raja Aceh terus bertanya.“ Yang Mulia, saya datang dari Istana
Geronggong bersama Puteri Limau dan orang-orangnya.” Hamba itu berkata. Raja Aceh lalu tersenyum
manis. Begitu indah, Raja Aceh menyangka Puteri Limau telah menerima risikannya. Tetapi, hamba itu

terus berkata “ Yang Mulia. Puteri Limau…sudah mangkat.”
“APA!?”

Raja Aceh terus berdiri. Hamba itu terus menunduk, “M-Maafkan hamba! Hamba hanya datang kemari
untuk menyampaikan pesanan kepada Yang Mulia! Ampunkan hamba!”

Disappointed, sad, angry
and confused. King Aceh

felt all kinds of emotion
within him. en he sat
down and was speechless…

“Why all of a sudden?
Impossible! ” King Aceh
could not accept it. His

heart was broken..

Kecewa, sedih, marah dan keliru.
Raja Aceh berasa segala emosi di
dalam dirinya. Lalu dia terduduk

dan terdiam…
“Kenapa secara tiba-tiba?

Mustahil!” Raja Aceh
tidak dapat menerimanya.

Dia berasa amat sedih.

"Impossible. is is a trick! ey use this reason to reject my proposal to the
Princess! ” King Aceh did not believe that Princess Limau had died. en King

Aceh continued to mobilize his army to get ready to attack Perak.

“Tidak mungkin. Ini adalah satu helah! Ini hanya helah untuk mereka menolak risikan beta!” Raja Aceh
tidak percaya bahawa Puteri Limau telah mangkat. Lalu Raja Aceh terus mengerahkan bala tenteranya

untuk bersiap sedia menyerang negeri Perak.

So the army forces from Aceh attacked Perak. Unfortunately, because of how
King Geronggong did not expect an attack from King Aceh. ey did not
make any preparations for war. Perak was completely lost to the war,
they were captured and taken to Aceh for imprisonment.
A sad ending for Princess Limau.
Today, her tomb is in Pulau Tiga, Perak. For the past 400 years.
She did not reach her dream and did not living happily ever after.

Maka berangkatlah angkatan tentera perang Aceh menuju ke Perak. Akan tetapi, betapa malangnya
kerana Raja Geronggong tidak menjangkakan serangan dari Raja Aceh. Mereka tidak membuat

apa-apa persiapan untuk berperang. Maka Perak pun kalah, mereka ditawan dan dibawa ke Aceh untuk
dipenjarakan.

Penamat yang menyedihkan buat Puteri Limau.
Kini, makamnya berada di Pulau Tiga, Perak. Selama 400 tahun yang lalu.

Dia tidak mencapai impiannya dan tidak hidup bahagia selamanya.

Conclusion

From the Folktale presented before, we all could learn the moral
value from this folktale.

Firstly, King Aceh and King Geronggong were both a King in their own
country. We see how King Aceh was being honest to his own feeling that
he is in love with Princess Limau and he himself went straight to King

Geronggong’s palace to propose to the Princess.
Secondly, no matter in what place you are or who ever you are, like
Princess Limau, she was willing to help her maids and nanny to cook.
Unfortunately, Princess Limau should have listened when people would
not allow her to help. If she did listen, her fate would probably change.
Last but not least, King Aceh should have talked first instead of going
straight into action. If he could not believe the message he recieved, he
should firstly calm himself and talk about it with King Geronggong.

He shouldn’t attack them following his emotions.
