educational area

(madrasah) consist

of three courtyards

paved with black

and white marble

arranged in

geometric patterns,

each surrounded by

three porticoes and

each consisting of

three horseshoe

arches crowned with

ablaq brick. The

contained student

in Kairouan located
near The Great
Mosque of Kairouan
(Oqba Mosque) . It is
a significant store in
Kairouan as carpet is
the most known to
the culture and
people of Kairouan.

Tapis Ali Allani is

also a most known

carpet store in

Kairouan located in

Ave Habib

Bourguiba. It is a

significant store in

Kairouan as carpet is

the most known to

the culture and

people of Kairouan.

This store is known

due to its beautiful

façade where they

placed their carpet

around the façade of

the building. It is

also a landmark to

Kairouan where

visitor used to have

photography session

there.

KAIROUAN HOUSING FAÇADE 04

Most of the housing

in Kairouan had a

significant entrance

where they are very

appreciate their

entrance from the

small to the big of

details. Most of the

entrance decoration

used the Islamic style

and pattern. They

also appreciate their

window by providing

some details to it and

mostly the color of

the window is blue.

KAIROUAN ROUNDABOUT 05

There is a carpet

monument placed at

the middle of the

Kairouan roundabout

represent their

cultural value . The

monument was

decorated with the

style and pattern

from the carpet

details. This

roundabout served as

a beautiful landmark

to Kairouan.

HZAM BELT 06

The HZAM Belt is
very famous in
Kairouan due to their
beautiful design and
color . The belt was
used in their culture
for the dance in
wedding ceremony.

THE GREAT MOSQUE OF KAIROUAN 07

Known as Oqba

Mosque it is a

significant landmark

to the Kairouan. It is

the largest Islamic

monuments in North

Africa and also the

oldest Muslim place

of worship in Africa.

It supported by

carved columns,

decorated mihrab,

special niche

indicating the

direction of Mecca,

outfitted in marble

panels and luster

tiles covered in floral

patterns.

WALL DECORATIVE 08

Most of building in

Kairouan were

decorated with

Islamic pattern and

geometry wall . It

used an organic

shape for the

detailing of the wall

combined with the

geometry pattern.

The color of the

detailing usually in

two tone especially in

the blue color.

THE ARCH OF BUILDING 09

The buildings in
Kairouan mostly
decorated with the
arch with the simple
design . The arch
were decorated with
some finishing such
as marble, brick and
cements .

ZAOUIA OF SIDI SAHIB 10

Zaouia of Sidi Sahib
was a cultural center.
The main door of
the Zaouia opening
onto a large
courtyard pave in
local bricks and
surrounded with
porticoes . The door
of the Zaouia is
framed with red and
white marble lintels
in the Italian manner.
