WINES A Brief Tour

boutinotwines.com

Welcome to Boutinot Wines

We have been established for over 30 years and it would be easy to say we
are in the business of wine. However; that really wouldn’t be an accurate
description as it is more a case of wine is what we do – we produce, market,
design, drink and dare I say, sell it with a passion.
Our wine making team ‘work’ (in the fun sense of the word) all over the world,
both in our own vineyards and wineries and closely with partners who have
become friends and members of the extended Boutinot family. We represent
these like-minded producer partners in the USA to help them sell their own
wines under their own labels.

We list wines from Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina, South Africa,
France, Italy, and Spain, from ‘House wine’ through to ‘Estate wine’ and from
Albarino to Zinfandel!
What we offer our customers

• Award winning, boutique wines.
• Established international brands.
• Brand creation.
• Buyers’ own brands and exclusive labels.
• From the classics to the ‘unique’ and innovative.
• Excellent price to quality ratio.
• World class service.

Our team
We are a company of over 100 wine professionals based around the world
including; two Masters of Wine and a Master Sommelier. Our people are
proud and passionate about our wines and have a simple desire to share
those wines we enjoy drinking ourselves.
This brief tour is a snapshot of our larger Portfolio… but enough of the
introductions, on to the wine.

Domaine Boutinot Rhône, Cairanne, France 3

BY BOUTINOT | FRANCE | Rhône

Our adventure in the Rhône began in the early 1980’s when we Morvane Ceillier
launched our first wines from the southern part of the region.
Ever since then, our love of the area has grown; accumulating in WINEMAKER
2010 when we bought our first vineyards, a winery and a cellar in Domaine Boutinot
Cairanne and christened it Domaine Boutinot.
Eric Monnin
Our signature ‘Fide et Arte’ range of wines was created by winemaker Eric
Monnin, who divides his time between our Cairanne winery and visiting growers CHIEF WINEMAKER
throughout the region. When he’s not working on our wines in Cairanne, Eric Domaine Boutinot
entrusts them to qualified winemaker and ‘Maître de chai’ Morvane Ceillier, who
joined us in 2011 to manage Domaine Boutinot.

The wines are made in the most natural way we know how – we take a ‘hands on’
approach to winemaking and endeavor to use organic farming methods wherever
possible. Rigorous pruning keeps yields low and grape concentration high, and
we believe in picking all grapes by hand only when they are at optimum ripeness
(picking decided by nature, not convenience). All this ensures that we produce
fantastic quality wine right through to the final bottle.

4

The international wine press have registered our efforts and the range has achieved some outstanding reviews to date.

91 POINTS: BOUTINOT RHÔNE - WINE SPECTATOR
The Wine Spectator again awarded 91 points to both the Cairanne and Séguret
2010 from Boutinot Rhône. Published in the October 2013 issue this is a repeat of
the 91 points awarded by the Wine Spectator for the 2009 vintage of both wines
(September 2012).

BY BOUTINOT | FRANCE | IGP Pays ranges

Quite simply, the Pays classification in France is a wonderful Samantha Bailey
source for astounding wines with an excellent quality: price ratio.
One such range of wines is the bedrock of Boutinot. WINEMAKER

Some 30 years ago, disillusioned with the drinkability and inconsistency of too Eric Monnin
many French ‘house’ wines on offer the founder of the company, Paul Boutinot, set
about breaking the mould. WINEMAKER

Named after his first son, the Cuvée Jean-Paul range was born. The wines have
evolved over the years and are still enjoyed today because we have maintained the
Boutinot culture of quality and drinkability.

No longer with the business, Paul entrusted his first wine to Samantha Bailey, in
whose hands Cuvée Jean-Paul continues to offer consistent quality and downright great
value, to customers everywhere.

We source many ‘varietals’ from the heartlands of the Languedoc region. The
relationships with growers and single Domaine owners have been nurtured for 30
years and so we are able to identify ‘gems’ from specific vineyards and bring them
to market.

Our portfolio of single varietal wines is wide and varied; Chardonnay, Sauvignon
Blanc, Viognier, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah
and Malbec to name but a few.

7

BY BOUTINOT | FRANCE | Beaujolais & Mâconnais

Our French office sits amongst the vineyards of St Véran on the Samantha Bailey
southern perimeter of the Mâconnais. Drive five minutes down the
road and cross the border into the northern rim of the Beaujolais WINEMAKER
cru, St. Amour – the village in which Samantha Bailey, our
winemaker responsible for Beaujolais and Mâconnais, got married
– all the hilly Beaujolais crus lie to the south in front of you.

Unsurprisingly after more than twenty years living in the region, Samantha knows
the Beaujolais and Mâconnais intimately and sources all our Beaujolais crus
directly from growers, selecting by blind tasting either single domaine or single
vineyard wines.

In many respects crus Beaujolais are the quintessential ‘enjoyment’
wines. Bursting with fruit and floral aromas in youth, they remain
full of ‘joie de vivre’ throughout their life.

8

Within Mâconnais itself, Samantha creates two signature wines under
Le Quartier des Girouettes label. The picturesque countryside of rolling
vineyards in southern Burgundy is peppered with Romanesque churches, many
dating back to medieval times, each with their own weathervane (‘girouettes’ in
French) atop their spires and bell-towers.

The single vineyard of Clos Saint Pierre with its tumbling walls and old
Chardonnay vines on a gentle southeast facing slope, produces a white
burgundy of intense purity.
The vineyards of Domaine des Perserons lie on some of the best southeast
facing slopes of the small appellation of Saint Véran, looking out towards the
landmark outcrops of Vergisson and Solutré.
All in all, Mâconnais is a beautiful region of France inspiring Samantha to
create authentic and classic styled wines.

ITALY

In 2003 we formed Adria Vini, a winemaking Claudio Manera
venture jointly owned by Boutinot and Araldica
Vini Piemontese, one of Italy’s most dynamic WINEMAKER
co-operatives.

Claudio Manera and his wife, Lella Burdese oversee all A LTO
aspects of the winemaking with meticulous precision. ADIGE

MILANO

authentic Italian wines from some of the country’s best TURIN EMILIA

SPAIN

Spain has more hectares of vineyard than any other country in the Chris Garrigos
world, with the majority of vines being grape varieties originally
native to Spain. OUR MAN IN SPAIN

The unique and diverse range of wines on offer from Spain is truly phenomenal.
Add to this the last decade which has seen a revolution in Spanish winemaking:
new vineyards have been planted and new winemaking technology has been
introduced. Spain is on the map of significant growth, but the traditions and
heritage have been retained.

We have recruited our own people on the ground in Spain so we can deliver an
inspiring Spanish portfolio of New Classics, covering the key DO regions, as well
as introducing some lesser known wines to the mix.

BY BOUTINOT | SOUTH AFRICA

Boutinot’s love affair with South Africa has always been special and our affection MARINDA
for the land, wine and people grows each year. In 1992, long before anyone would KRUGER-VAN ECK
realise the true winemaking potential of this wonderfully diverse country, Boutinot
South Africa began cultivating partnerships with growers in various regions. We’re WINEMAKER
lucky, these partnerships now allow Boutinot access to some truly amazing and
unique sites; exceptional quality fruit at a fair price; and opportunities to discover
wild and uncultivated ‘lost blocks’ that produce stunning and unforgettable wines.

Our team is headed by winemaker Marinda Kruger-van Eck, who spends an
enormous amount of time in the vineyards ensuring wines are produced with
minimal cellar interference. To capture the terroir, we contract and grow cultivars
where plants perform best and with little vineyard manipulation. Some blends
contain grapes from 4-5 different areas, each with their own unique character,
which result in more complex and interesting wines. To pick and choose the best
combination of fruit and terroir is a luxury not enjoyed by most producers, and has
only been made possible to Boutinot due to our longstanding ties developed with
growers over the past 20+ years.

Boutinot New Zealand wines are sourced from vineyards in each Samantha Bailey
of the sub-regions of Marlborough – the Awatere, Waihopai and

terroir which give a unique personality to the vineyards, grapes and
finished wine. The wines are then made for us by our own resident
winemaker Samantha Bailey.

THE CLOUD FACTORY – SAUVIGNON BLANC

The Cloud Factory – a brief story. The first explorers across the great oceans
were greeted by the long white cloud which told them they had at last
sighted New Zealand. The long white clouds still bear the precious rain that,
through the marvellous mechanic of the vine, is distilled by nature in to the
perfect Sauvignon Blanc.

Judiciously sourced from 3 vineyard sites between the Waihopai, Wairau
and Awatere Valleys. As fresh as the dew on a Marlborough morning – alive
with aromas of stone-fruit and minerals with flavors of guava and lime.

MOKOBLACK

Ta Moko is the bold, black, body art of the indigenous Maori people of New Zealand. Worn on the
face, it is a living symbol of identity and origin – MOKOblack is a tribute to this noble culture.

The Pinot Noir carries dark fruit notes with some black pepper and has a lovely savoury
bay-leaf character to balance out the supple fruit. The Sauvignon Blanc is crammed with zesty
citrus and white stone fruit, hints of gooseberry roll into a full layered palate, with a lovely balance
of texture, weight and a clean refreshing finish.
