ABSTRACT
The aim of this research is to investigate the effects of the pandemic COVID-19 on UNISEL
students’ motivation towards online learning. Reaching the endemic phase, online learning
has been seen as one of the factors for the diminishing of their motivation. In education,
motivation is an important needs to sustain teachers' and students’ emotional balance,
especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, this study runs a descriptive analysis
to determine students' motivation in online learning. The quantitative data was gathered
through a questionnaire that was adopted and adapted from Perceived Stress Scale (PSS)
with 10 items and The Motivation to Learn Online Questionnaire with 31 items. The data
were examined using descriptive statistics in Google Excel. This research comprises 111
foundation and undergraduate students from UNISEL university. The findings had
discovered; (1) A significant number of the students were able to adapt to the changes in the
educational system and platforms. (2) When their emotional state during the pandemic is
good, then their motivation in online learning will increase. However, there are still students
who are not adapting well to the new learning platform and are feeling very demotivated.

ABSTRACT
This study aimed to fill in the gap of previous research on teachers’ burnout by measuring
burnout and identifying the differences in the three components of burnout: emotional
exhaustion, depersonalisation, and personal accomplishment among secondary school
teachers in urban and rural areas. A quantitative comparative design was used for this
study. Socio-Demographic questions and Maslach Burnout Inventory-Educators Survey
(MBI-ES) were distributed to a total of sixty-two secondary school teachers. Thirty-one
teachers from the Petaling Jaya (PJ) district and thirty-one from the Papar district. An
independent sample t-test was employed to verify the differences between the two areas
and the level of burnout. The findings from this study found that there are no significant
differences between the three components of burnout and the two school areas. Secondary
school teachers in the PJ district are experiencing a higher burnout level than teachers in
the Papar district. Thus, future studies need to focus on suitable approaches to prevent
burnout among secondary school teachers in urban as well as rural areas.

ABSTRACT
English is the language of worldwide communication and it is widely utilized in Malaysia
and English language is therefore seen as the global academic language. However, many
undergraduate students are still confronted with problems in speaking the targetted
language due to the existence of language anxiety as a hindrance. This study aims to
examine the speaking anxiety level in English and to investigate the causes of speaking
anxiety in English as a second language among the TESL undergraduates in University
Selangor. The Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS) which is developed by
Horwitz et al. (1983) was distributed to 50 final year students of TESL undergraduates of
University Selangor via WhatsApp. Data analysis on the FLCAS items were analysed using
SPSS 26.0. The findings revealed that majority of the students experienced a moderate level
of English-speaking anxiety and fear of negative evaluation being the main factor which
contributed to the respondents’ English-speaking anxiety, followed by communication
apprehension and test anxiety.

ABSTRACT
COVID-19 has caused damage across the globe's sectors. Education is one of the most
important sectors in our life that was affected by this pandemic. Due to the COVID-19
outbreak, e-learning has become a required component of all educational institutions such
as schools, colleges, and universities all across the world. The offline teaching and learning
process has been thrown into disarray as a result of this terrible event. E-Learning is the
most suitable method to use during this deadly crisis. The aim of this study is to identify the
difficulties of e-learning encountered by UNISEL undergraduates during the COVID-19 crisis
and to discover the readiness of UNISEL undergraduates toward e-learning during the
COVID-19 crisis. In order to discover more about the difficulties of E-Learning towards
UNISEL undergraduates in English Language Learning during the COVID-19 crisis, 50
undergraduate students from all faculty in UNISEL who experienced e-learning during the
COVID-19 pandemic were given a questionnaire to be answered. The data for this study
was gathered using a quantitative approach. We discovered from the statistics that the
most common difficulty faced is the internet connection problem. Other than that students'
readiness level reflects on student ICT competencies which when the ICT skills are high,
they will relatively have a higher readiness level when attending e-learning. To conclude,
despite the challenges students have during online learning because of the pandemic
COVID-19, the majority of students are prepared to engage in online learning.

ABSTRACT
Due to the pandemic outbreak, the educational institutions are left with no other choice
but to implement online learning to all students. The challenges were countless for both
the students and lecturers in adapting to the new teaching and learning techniques and
methods. As such, challenges were more pertinent in courses learned such as theatre or
drama. The teaching and learning of drama classes have always been conducted face-to-
face. By the end of a drama course, students are expected to stage a drama performance.
Whether it is a minimal or an elaborate stage set and acting practices, a lengthy number of
days and hours would probably be spent by the students to get ready for the performance
day. However, Covid-19 has challenged the traditional teaching and learning of a drama
class. Hence, this study seeks to find out the challenges faced by both the students and a
lecturer of a drama course in a private university. A questionnaire was distributed to 60
undergraduates of the Bachelor of Teaching English As A Second Language (TESL)
programme. Additionally, an interview with six students and the lecturer was also
conducted. Both the questionnaire and interview findings showed that the students and
the lecturer faced many challenges and have quickly learned to adapt to the inevitable
situation.

English proficiency plays an important role in students life especially when it comes to academic-
related activities. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between academic
performance of UNISEL students and the level of English proficiency. A set of questionnaires was
conducted through Google Form for data collection. Using an administrated questionnaire
approach, questionnaires were distributed to UNISEL students from foundation, undergraduate
and postgraduate entitled “The Relationship between English Proficiency and Academic
Performance of UNISEL Students to measure the variables. The data was collected through
statistical analysis. Results of the study shows that the highest mean GPA was evident among
UNISEL students who had reported high levels of self-perceived English language proficiency.
Self-perceived English ability might reflect various factors in the multiple dimensions influencing
academic performance such as self-efficacy, motivation, confidence, and a positive attitude toward
learning in a second language. Thus, the present study focused on examining the relationship
between self-perceived English proficiency and GPA’s of UNISEL students. Additionally, the
relationship between the English language proficiency and GPAs of UNISEL students was
examined.

ABSTRACT
During the widespread of COVID-19, students from all stages from kindergarten to tertiary
level are required to not only learn what they are supposed to but also need to adapt with the
changes of learning since everyone has their preferred learning style. The purpose of our
research is to identify whether this new norm in education has caused psychological and
emotional changes in students. A mixed-method (quantitative and qualitative) was used in
this research. A set of questionnaires related to social-development theory focused on the
student’s emotional and behaviour changes questionnaires were used to measure the
variables. The questionnaire was distributed to 83 respondents in a private university. An
interview was done with six (6) interviewees where they answered seven (7) questions on
their psychological and emotional changes due to changing back and forth from online
learning to face-to-face learning. Results show that changes in learning style for numerous
times cause great frustration among students emotionally and this drains their mental health
state as they continuously need to adapt and be flexible with the new norm. Although it
clearly shows that students can cope with the new norm, their mental health is at stake all
the time.

Abstract: Sleep deprivation, sleep disturbance, or sleeplessness are commonly known in our
society regardless of age. Sleep deprivation is commonly known to affect Malaysian workers, and
this issue has become a severe problem for the work organisation and employees to achieve
excellent work performance. Hypotheses were formed based on various studies stating that sleep
deprivation affects work performance and stress levels. A quantitative measure was used to collect
and analyse the data to assist the study further. A set of questionnaires comprising three (3)
sections were distributed to 178 delivery riders working in the gig economy throughout Malaysia.
Findings found that a vast majority of the riders were not sleep deprived. It can be concluded that
sleep deprivation had no significant relationship with their working performance. However, sleep
deprivation was found to have minimal effects on delivery riders’ stress levels. The findings of
this study can be a great help for future research regarding the working performances of delivery
riders in any part of Malaysia. The results from this study may be of key value in helping the gig
economy sector in Malaysia with their employees that may have trouble with sleep deprivation
and stress accumulation.

ABSTRACT
Many countries use English as their primary communication language, and it has
become a global language. However, English is a second language in Malaysia.
Majority of students in Malaysia are able to communicate in English while some of the
students do not encourage themselves to speak in English when interacting with their
classmates. Therefore this current study aims to find out the perception of students on
the use of the English language as a daily conversation in the classroom setting. A
quantitative measure has been taken in conducting this study by using a
questionnaire. This questionnaire comprises three sections and was distributed to 70
undergraduates. The result indicated that using English in daily conversation in the
classroom improves students’ second language speaking and learning. Majority of
students preferred to be using English in most classroom situations. This research
implies that using the English language as a daily conversation in the classroom
enhances students’ confidence level and increases speaking flexibility.

ABSTRACT
A lot of research has been done in regards to language learning, but there is little known
regarding language learning strategies used by learners to further improve and acquire
their second language learning skills. Thus, the purpose of this study is to understand
the perception of language learning strategies used amongst the undergraduates of
Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) that involves the Metacognitive,
Cognitive, and Socio-affective strategies. This research applied a mixed-method
research design where survey and open ended questions were implemented in collecting
the data. Purposive sampling was used to to collect the data amongst TESL
undergraduates studying in Universiti Selangor. The set of questionnaires for the survey
was adopted from Soloman and Felder’s Index of Learning Styles Questionnaire and
Rahman’s EFL Learners’ Language Learning Strategies: A Case Study at Qassim
University questionnaire. The Questionnaire was distributed to 30 participants. The
data was analysed by separating the Questionnaire into three sections and each section
analysed according to the percentage of the answers from the participants. The
percentage in each section would describe how efficient is the learning strategy that the
participants use and which of the strategies used the most. Through the answers, it has
been concluded that the learning strategies provided are very efficient in the
respondent’s language learning and most of the respondents chose Cognitive strategies
as their most used learning strategy.
