Join us in congratulating our 2019

of the Year!

Jenny Thomas, principal of Armand Bayou

Principal of the Year and Bayside
Intermediate's Joey Thomas was named the
Secondary Principal of the Year. Both
principals were nominated by their peers as
both campus and district leaders. The pair will
both be honored at a luncheon hosted by the
Rotary Clubs of Space Center, Seabrook and

CCISD campus teachers of the year.

School Boundary Update

The Clear Creek Independent School District Board of Trustees
unanimously approved new attendance zones for the 2019-2020
school year. The changes affect 18 elementary schools, two
intermediate schools, and all five comprehensive high schools.
The board action follows an extensive community-engagement
effort to populate the new Florence Campbell Elementary and to

address overcrowding in several CCISD elementary schools and high schools. The boundary changes
affect approximately 1,000 students.

As part of new district regulations, the high school boundary changes will go into effect for the incoming
freshmen, only. Students currently attending high school today will remain at their home campus until
graduation.

While not technically part of the Board approved school boundary changes, there will be a slight
adjustment to WAVE magnet assignments for students who reside in the Robinson Elementary and
Greene Elementary attendance zones. The District will be communicating directly with those few students
who will be impacted by a change in their WAVE assignment. Science Magnet assignments are not
affected by the board-approved recommendations.

All approved boundary recommendations will go into effect for the 2019-2020 school year. Families
affected by a boundary change will receive an email, a call and information by mail from the school district
in the coming weeks. Visit www.ccisd.net/sbac for more information.

Debunking Heart Myths and Misconceptions

February is National Heart Disease Awareness month. Did you know that heart disease kills more
Americans each year than any other disease? However, there are still many misconceptions that exist. Here
are some common myths about the disease:

I’m young and fit. Do I need to worry about heart disease now?
Being fit reduces but doesn’t eliminate risk factors. Even young and middle-aged people can develop
heart problems – especially since obesity, Type 2 diabetes and other risk factors are becoming more
common at a younger age.

I’d feel sick if I had high cholesterol or high blood pressure.
Neither produces early warning signs and both can lead to heart attack or stroke.

I’ll know when I’m having a heart attack.
Although it’s common to have chest pain, a heart attack may cause subtle symptoms such as shortness of
breath, nausea, light headedness and discomfort in one or both arms.

Heart attack symptoms are the same in men and women.
Women, more often than men, may have less recognizable symptoms, such as abdominal pain, achiness
in the jaw or back, nausea, shortness of breath and tiredness.

Heart disease runs in my family, so there’s nothing I can do to prevent it.
You can take steps to reduce your risk: exercise, eat healthy, maintain an acceptable weight, control
blood sugar, manage stress and don’t use tobacco.
