NABL ACCREDITATION FOR :-

Tes ng Laboratory is the formal recogni on, authoriza on and registra on of a tes ng
laboratory that has demonstrated its capability, competence and credibility to undertake the
tes ngw ork it is claiming to be able to do. NABL provides feed back to various laboratories as
to whether they are performing the tes ng work in accordance with interna onal criteria for
technical competence.
The concept of tes ng laboratory accredita on was developed to provide third-party
cer fica on that a tes ng laboratory is competent to perform the specific test of a chemical
discipline or type of tests. The NABL Laboratory accredita on is a means to improve
customer confidence in the tests | test reports issued by the tes ng laboratory so that
customers can take accept / take decisions whether the tested product should be sold or
purchased for their use in either consump on or processing with confidence.
The Na onal Accredita on Board for tes ng and calibra on Laboratories, NABL is an autonomous body under the aegis of Department of science
and technology, Govt. of India. The Govt. of India has authorized NABL as a sole accredita on body for tes ng and Calibra on of Laboratories. The
objec ve of NABL is to provide third party assessment of quality and technical competence.
The tes ng laboratories can get their ISO|IEC- 17025-2017 Accredita on (Recogni on) in the chemical, Microbiological discipline for the following
fields :
Dairy Products : Milk, Bu er, Cheese, Cream, Khoa, Milk Powder.
Spices and Confidents (Whole/Powder) : Chillies, Pepper, Turmeric, coriander, Garam Masala etc.
Bakery Products : Biscuits/Cookies, Rusks, Cakes etc.
Oils/Fats : Refined oils, Vanaspa , Desi Ghee.
Namkeen Snacks : Various type of Namkeens like Bhujia, Kha a Meetha, Potato Wafers.
Dry Fruits : Almonds, Cashew, Pista, Peanut.
Cereal products (Whole/Ground) : Wheat A a, Maida, Suji, Besan, Rice/Wheat, Pasta/Vermicelli.
Salt : Iodized Salt / For fied Salt.
The Accredita on can be obtained for the general tests like, General parameters for the above product: Moisture, Total Ash, Acidinsoluble Ash. Total
Acidits: Alcoholic Acidity, Total fat content, Total Carbohydrates, Sugar, Protein, Energy Value, PH, Value, Vola le oil R.M.Value, Solubility, Insolubility,
water content, Density/Specific Gravity, Refrac ve Index and any other related specific test related to the food product.

REQUIREMENTS FOR SEEKING NABL ACCRIDETAT

1. The major requirement being that the tes ng laboratory should have the facili es and the competence in tes ng the various products and the
related tests in the range as documented in the scope of work applied for NABL Accredita on.

2. The tes ng laboratory must appoint a "QUALITY MANAGER" who has sufficient tes ng experience an educa onal qualifica on and has the
training of ISO|IEC 17025-2017 for 4 days in the LABORATORY MANAGEMENT AND INTERNAL AUDIT "FOR 4 DAYS" from BI5 as organised by
NABL AUTHORITIES.

3. The Laboratory to document the scope of work for which NABL applied for the products their tes ng methods to be adopted, range of
tes ng and the measurement of uncertainty i.e. error in tes ng.

4. The Laboratory to document the "QUALITY MANUAL" which is the Bible of NABL detailing all the points referred in the ISO|IEC
17025-2017 standard. Quality Manual is a policy document with quality objec ves Supplemented with set of other documents.

5. The Laboratory to document all the Quality procedures and their Quality Formats for Implementa on with respect to all the clauses
referred in the ISO|IEC|7025-2017 standard.

6. The tes ng laboratory to ensure that all the measuring equipments/Sophis cated instrument Laboratory Glass wale are Calibrated
through an NABL Accredited Laboratory to know there status of accuracy.

7. The tes ng laboratory to ensure they are par cipa ng in Inter Laboratory Compliance tes ng programme/proficiency tes ng Ac vity
and ensuring that the 2-scores are evaluated are also the laboratory is undertaking the Quality control measures like Retes ng of
lemnants of tested samples and replicate tes ng of samples.

8. The tes ng laboratory to conduct Internal Audits. Management Reviews to ensure that the Management System is being func oning
effec vely.

Also take necessary correc ve ac ons on the non-conformi es observed during Internal Audits and document their closures with necessary
evidence.

PROCEDURE FOR APPLICATION (Following Documents)

- The applicant laboratory has to submit to NABL a set of 3 Copies of applica on
form along with two copies of Quality Manual.

- An applica on of NABL fees abouts Rs 28000/- for Chemical discipline has to be
submi ed.

- Inter-laboratory test programme - Test records with 2-scores.
- Proficiency test par cipa ng - 4year plan with 2-scores.
- Date of conductance of Internal Audits/Management Reviews in the laboratory.
- List of technical personnel with educa onal qualifica on and experience.
- List of available equipments details and their calibra on records.
The accredita on process involves a through assessment of all the elements of the laboratory which contribute to the issue of final test report of
accurate and reliable data. These elements include.
- technical personnel and their competence.
- trainings in the subjects to improve knowledge.
- Witness tes ng of the products in the scope of work.
- Role of proper supervision by the technical Managers/Singing Authori es.
- Calibra on of equipments and their regular monitoring the calibra on status.
- Par cipa on in I.L.C. / proficiency tes ng.
- Repor ng and recording of the test results.
- Quality control/Quality check measures taken.
- Availability of cer fied reference materials.
- Maintenance and use of standard/Normality Solu ons/Reagents.
- Environment Monitoring/Cleanliness Hygiene Maintenance.

Ac ons taken with respect
The me required for the process of Accredita on will depend upon the preparedness of the tes ng laboratory and response to the non-
conformi es raised during the pre-assessment and final assessment. The total dura on ranges between about 6 months.
The Accredita on to a laboratory will be valid for period of two years. The NABL shall conduct annual surveillance of the accredited laboratories. The
laboratories may enhance as reduce the scope of working depending upon the addi onal facili es created.
The Accredited laboratories need to apply for the renewal of the NABL at least six months before the expiry of the validity of accredita on for which a
Re-Assessment shall be conducts to the NABL Authori es again.
