Nicholas Kozis Biography:

My interest in animation as an art form began during my final year as an undergraduate Fine Arts major at the School of the
Art Institute of Chicago. There I was influenced by the paintings of Wassily Kandinsky. His compositions and theory provided
the inspiration to incorporate movement and color in my paintings. Upon graduation, I was accepted to the graduate program
in Experimental Animation at the California Institute of the Arts. It was there that I met animation pioneer, Professor Jules
Engel. Under his mentorship, I was encouraged to look outside commercial animation and explore other forms of art (dance,
fine art, sculpture), which I then incorporated into filmmaking. Under his wing, I was exposed to the many experiential
animators and artists who have greatly impacted the creation of my independent films. The principle of arts exploration has
been a driving force behind all my artistic endeavors, and is something I attempt pass on to all my students. A recurring
theme in my film work has been the reinterpretation of classical mythology using current art technologies. To this end, I
have created several award-winning, distributed films that explore various cultures’ mythologies and specific decorative
styles. The work of Lotte Reiniger, whose films I was exposed to during my graduate work at the California Institute if The
Arts Experimental Animation program, has been extremely influential to me in creating my own body of work. Her technical
approach is very similar to puppet making. I have tried to incorporate this technique into my own films. My characters are
constructed in segments, with their individual components then animated. This hands-on approach with my work allows me
to maximize my investigation in design without that complication affecting the movement. I plan to continue building my
mythological series, with the completion of more films in the genre. Oskar Wilhelm Fischinger is another artist from whom I
have taken much inspiration. His investigation into the relationships between sound and motion influences me particularly.
Recently, I have embarked on a series of studies that explore his principles using geometric forms as characters. Working
without the constraint of traditional character designs has allowed me to experiment with movement as it relates to musical
structures. My plans are to complete more studies and to collaborate with musicians to produce future films.

Art takes on many forms, but it’s the energy it conveys to the viewer that is magical. I am primarily a painter. But much to my
surprise and delight, I discovered the world of dichroic glass. I incorporate both dichroic and opaque fused glass in making
and designing one-of a kind pendants. My specialty is color and design which is evident in my paintings as well as my jewelry.

Jessica Terris Biography:

I am a Studio Arts graduate of Loyola Marymount University. I portray raw emotions and intense feelings of truth in my
assemblages in found objects. My transformation has occurred due to my lack of voice through the past years. My inspiration
is now my inner voice and being true to my higher self after years of hiding from the real me. It is now that I feel compelled
to share my inner darkness which has evolved to the lightness of my heart and soul. I paint with oils, acrylics and use
metals, plastics and wood in my art. I hope that my art inspires truth for anyone looking to stand in their own skin. With an
empathetic heart, art is a way that one can feel to heal, manifest their desires, reflect their truth and seek awareness of their
soul. Art inspires and affirms our oneness and deep connection to each other and validates our existence.

Scott A Trimble Biography:

The thoughts of the future are being formed by the words of today. An unexpected political change drastically disorients the
senses. I awoke believing that others heard the music of my dreams. Scott A. Trimble graduated from USC’s School of Cinema
and Television with an emphasis in history/criticism and screen writing. Although he enjoyed writing, he dreaded the time-
intensive nature of transcribing entire ideas into words once their inspiration had already sparked and moved on. Painting, by
contrast, is all about immediacy and spontaneity, and is full of opportunities for Trimble to surprise even himself. Trimble’s
practice of planting successive images on the same plane offers an experience beyond the four corners of the canvas. He
partially or sometimes wholly obscures one of his then-existing paintings, pressing the remainders into service of a new,
multiple palimpsest that mimics and physically resembles the way our memories construct themselves over time. Unwilling
to completely renounce writing, he pairs intuitively musical titles with doggedly ambiguous imagery as his expressionist and
surreal figurative and landscape paintings examine the elusive nature of recall within the hidden structures of relationships
and emotional wellsprings. An active artist-member of the Los Angeles Art Association/Gallery 825, Trimble’s work is widely
and increasingly shown in group shows throughout Southern California. He has had a solo show at Ego Fine Art, a featured
artist exhibit at South Bay Contemporary, and a well-received pairing with photographer Osceola Refetoff at Chungking
Studio on celebrated Chung King Road. In 2015 and 2016, William Escalera and Francisco George juried Trimble’s work into
Gallery 825’s Out There, as did Nina Zak Laddon in the highly-regarded CA101 exhibition, and he has been honored to have had
his work sell both live and on-line at LAAA’s annual fundraiser auction (in 2016, Trimble’s Two More in the Bonding Sea was
Francisco George’s and Williams Escalera’s Pick of the Day). His work was recently exhibited at the Los Angeles Municipal Art
Gallery, the Torrance Art Museum, the Manhattan Beach Art Center, and the Santa Monica Art Hanger, and in February 2017, at
Santa Barbara’s Gallery 10 West, in Histories and Memories, curated by Joshua Hagler, at the Indiana University East’s Tom
Thomas Gallery, and at Fullerton, California’s Apéro Gallery. His work currently is featured in a solo show, running from March
until June, curated by Joshua Elias for the Laemmle Theaters’ Art in the Arthouse program at the Royal Theatre in West Los
Angeles and will be again showing at the Apéro Gallery in April 2017.

Tina Ybarra Biography:

Tina Ybarra lives a mixed-media life. Born in the urban city of Lynwood, CA, Ybarra attended Cal State Univ., Long Beach off
and on (mostly off) for several years, eventually earning a degree in General Art. Currently residing in South Gate, CA, Ybarra
is a veteran schoolteacher, a semi-retired softball junkie, a former HS coach, and an undercover artist. Raised on Motown and
Santana, Ybarra gleans inspiration from all genres of music. She’s mesmerized by TV, fascinated by movies, fanatical about
books, and enchanted with theatre. For the most part, Ybarra’s work deals with issues that are personally relevant such as
the hypocrisy of religions, the brutal realities of inner-city education, the relentless despair of poverty, and the inequalities
of gender and race. In Ybarra’s current work there is a tendency towards mixed media. Still, on occasion, Ybarra will return
to basics; to something straightforward and traditional; to something as comfortable and familiar as the velveteen texture
of charcoal on paper.
