Bronx Club
CHERYL HOLT, PRESIDENT
"Annual Cancer Awareness and Walk Brunch"
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
On October 12, 2019, in partnership with the Women’s
Ministry of Goodwill Baptist Church, The Bronx Club, The
New Rochelle Club, The New York Club, and The
Williamsbridge Club of NANBPWC, Inc. sponsored the
Annual Cancer Awareness Brunch and 2K Walk.
The speakers were Rev. Dr. Barbara Evans of Grace Baptist
Church, and Elder Natisha Moore of the American Cancer
Society. Both speakers challenged the participants to
improve their health and quality of life by making lifestyle
changes. Lunch was served, gifts distributed, old friends
were reacquainted, and new friends were made.
Approximately 100 individuals composed of
community and club members were in attendance.
PROGRAM IMPACT
The purpose of the brunch was to raise
awareness and shine a light on Cancer in a
community predominately composed of
people of color. African Americans in the
US still have the highest death rate and
lowest survival rate of any racial
or ethnic group for most cancers.
This program enlightened members of the
community to bring about change in their
health in order to have a happier, fulfilled,
and potentially longer life.

"Martin Luther King Jr. Conference"
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
The Elm City Club was chartered in 1976 and for over
40 years we have supported the annual Dr. Martin
Luther King, Jr. Conference at Wexler-Grant
Community School in New Haven, CT. It honors his
life, work, and accomplishments. The club has not
only supported the conference financially
for the past four decades but has more importantly
volunteered in every capacity of the day. Every year
hundreds of adults, youth, and families invest
in the day of education, information, and
presentations.
This year the Elm City Club facilitated three
exceptional workshops: Technology 101, Elm City
Youth Club SAFE Encounters, and Human
Trafficking. Youth, young adults, parents,
community leaders, and advocates learned how every
year millions of men, women, and children are being
trafficked worldwide - including in the United States.
PROGRAM IMPACT
The Elm City Club published the workshop in social
media,
digital newspapers, and distributed more than 200
Human Trafficking Fact Sheets
to over 300 conference participants. Forty youth and
adults attended the
workshop and had the opportunity to learn about the
topics presented.

Mid Island Club
BETTY BROWN-GREENE, PRESIDENT
"Sexual Trafficking and Domestic Violence"
PROGRAM SUMMARY & HIGHLIGHTS
Over the past three years Mid-Island Club has completed successfully two of the nationally mandated programs on
Domestic Violence and Sexual Trafficking. Under the Chairmanship of members Mrs. Evy L. Forbes and her
Committee members, the Domestic Violence Program and The Sexual Trafficking Program has made an impact on
those who have attended the programs.
In April 2019, the club presented a Workshop on Domestic Violence and The Professional Woman at Old Westbury
College in partnership with the Women’s Diversity of Long Island. The highlight of the program was when a
woman whose parents had been Holocaust survivors’ repeatedly thanked the Club
for presenting the program which had helped her deal with her traumatic childhood and marriage.
In November 2019, the club presented the program on Domestic Violence, and how many Professional Women will
not admit or discuss that they are being abused by their partners for fear of “Image” to the community in
which they live. The Committee then presented a program on Sexual Trafficking with members Past Gov. Claretha L.
Smith, Mrs. Sneyda Jones, and Mrs. Mary Fernandez, at Bethel AME Church of Copiague. Again, the highlight of the
program came when many of the participants began to share their stories and
trauma of being sexually abused by relatives, as children, as well as being concerned about young women of color
being kidnapped and used as Sex slaves in the Sexual Trafficking business. Long Island especially the East End is one
of the highest sexually trafficked areas on the East Coast. The beauty and effectiveness of this program
was that it was presented in an African American Church and the Women who attended felt free and safe to talk about
their individual sexual trauma.

BEVERLY NANCE, PRESIDENT
"S.A.F.E. Encounters"
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
The New Rochelle Club of the National Association of
Negro Business and Professional Women’s Clubs,
Incorporated have held Safe Encounters programs
with the Mount Vernon Boys and Girls Clubs for the
past five years.
The Mount Vernon Youth Division at City Hall
embraced our idea to share strategies with at risk
African-American and Hispanic males and sensitize
them as how to interact with police officers if there is
ever a need.
PROGRAM IMPACT
Incidents in the news about our young men and their
encounters with the police and word of mouth about our
program has made our S.A.F.E. Encounters program
successful in the community.
The Mount Vernon Police Department partner with the
Youth Bureau and send active police officers from each
ethnic group in uniform to meet with the young men in two
sessions to share about their lives growing up and how they
decided to become Police Officers. The young men introduce
themselves and a relationship of honesty is formed by the
end of the session. The second day the Police
Officers demonstrate through skits what should happen if
they are ever stopped by the police and a full rationale is
given for each scenario. Through a Q&A session at the end of
the program, the evaluation always showed that there was
understanding of the strategies because each side
understood each other. Strategies and understandings are
the goals and outcome of the sessions.

New York Club
YVONNE HARRIS-JONES, PRESIDENT
"Heart Health Awareness"
PROGRAM SUMMARY & HIGHLIGHTS
The New York Club enjoyed another year working with The Collaborative Group -- The Bronx Club,
The New Rochelle Club, The Wiliamsbridge Club and The New York Club. Our programs were impactful and
served our communities in the areas of health, education, technology and economic development.
The program that our club chose to highlight was "Heart Health Awareness" on February 7, 2020 at the Mt.
Vernon Boys and Girls Club. The New Rochelle Club arranged the program and obtained the presenter for our
collaborative group. They have an ongoing relationship with the organization. The objective was: To define
stroke and heart disease and the risk factors and symptoms. Through this program, the young people were
educated about high blood pressure/strokes and emphasis was placed on the signs, how one's diet and other
factors leading to the disease so that they would be able to identify an attack or occurrence in their parents,
grandparents or older person. It also served to alert them about dietary changes they as young people should
begin making.
Since many of the young people are serving as caregivers to elderly and/or sick family members, the
program addressed and targeted our youth populations' needs in a very simplistic way. The presenter from
Montefiore Medical Center did an excellent job. He had a short film which used voices and illustrations
with characters depicting people of color that the young people could relate to. He also provided interactive
scripts for role playing activities about stroke attacks. The club members and adult guests benefitted from the
program as well.
This was an excellent program and served to alert everyone to an issue prevalent in our communities
as we are experiencing with COVID-19.
