美國酒店地產總商會2024年特刊 / 87 America Hotel Owners Charitable Association 美國酒店地產總商會 Community Leader with Special Recognition Award 社區領袖特別表彰獎 Marty Markowitz Former Brooklyn Borough President Emeritus Marty Markowitz was elected to become Brooklyn Borough President beginning January 2002 and then elected to two additional terms for a total of twelve years. For Marty, becoming Borough President was his lifelong professional career goal. Expressing that desire in his high school yearbook. Marty’s quest for Borough President began when he held student government positions in the public schools he attended in Crown Heights, where he was born and raised. He served as president of the evening student government at Brooklyn College for seven of his nine years attending evening college, until he graduated in 1970 with a B.A. in Political Science. After graduation Marty immediately joined his local reform democratic club and then in 1971 at the age of 26, founded the largest tenants association in New York City at that time, the Flatbush Tenants Council. In 1973, at age 28, he founded the Senior Citizens League of Flatbush, an organization that is still going strong — and Marty is a proud member for many years, and he hopes for many more. In 1975 he also became one of the founders of one of the most successful local community development corporations in New York City, The Flatbush Development Corporation. In 1978 he was elected to the New York State Senate and over the course of 23 years represented all or parts of the following neighborhoods: BedfordStuyvesant, Crown Heights, East Flatbush, Flatbush, Flatlands, Kings Highway, Midwood, Ocean Hill-Brownsville, Ocean Parkway, Park Slope, Prospect Heights and Prospect Lefferts. When Marty took office as borough president in January 2002, he made a pledge to make the position of Brooklyn Borough President the most relevant and important to all Brooklynites. As Borough President he dedicated an ambitious agenda focused on the core issues of his more than three decades in public service — housing, neighborhood preservation and community development. Marty also enacted programs to boost civic pride, promote borough tourism, improve public health, and empower young Brooklynites. As a longtime advocate for senior citizens, he fought vigorously to keep Brooklyn senior centers open when they were threatened with closures due to budget cuts and to ensure a set aside of ten percent affordable housing in new housing developments in Brooklyn. Marty fought to save Brooklyn’s financially troubled hospitals and provided round-the-clock services to assist homeowners and tenants impacted by Superstorm Sandy.

美國酒店地產總商會2024年特刊 / 89 America Hotel Owners Charitable Association 美國酒店地產總商會 Steven W. Wong is the founder of the Hotel Chinese Association of USA, a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization. He immigrated to New York City in 1980 and then ventured into the restaurant business. He entered the hospitality industry in 1991, and for more than two decades he helped hardworking immigrants have a fair chance to achieve their American Dream. As a result of the September 11th tragedy, Mr. Wong lost his job at the Marriott hotel that was located at the World Trade Center. However with a deep commitment to serving his community and country as a Chinese American citizen, Mr. Wong signed up as a volunteer with the American Red Cross and FEMA, helping people and families get back on their feet. In 2007, Mr. Wong started the Hotel Chinese Association so that immigrant workers could have a better understanding of the hotel industry, and their rights and responsibilities. He actively trained immigrants and helps them to get into the hospitality industry, which at the time did not have a large Asian American workforce. He also helped hotel workers overcome language barriers. Mr. Wong retired from his hotel job and resigned as Hotel Chinese Association president in April this year, and was appointed as a Senior Advisor to the office of New York City Council Member Christopher Marte, who represents District 1. This appointment came after years of proving himself as a caring neighbor, and a tireless public servant. After positions in Finance, he joined the hotel industry as a Controller at the hotel level. He held General Manager positions at Select Service as well as large Full-Service Marriott branded hotels before he was promoted to a Regional Director position by one of the leading Hotel Management companies in the United States. Sanjay has overseen Operations as a Regional Director in markets in New York, Kentucky, Virginia, Michigan and Pennsylvania. Sanjay joined Real Hospitality Group in 2013 and currently manages ownership relations across Real Hospitality Group’s portfolio including high profile assets in New York City. Sanjay champions the RHG Core Values through his leadership of the regional operations team in the New York office and drives operational excellence through evaluation, assessment, and action. Sanjay has an MBA from Clarion University of Pennsylvania and received his bachelor's degree from St. Stephen's College in New Delhi. He also earned a Hotel Real Estate Investment & Asset Management certification from eCornell. Sanjay is an active outreach participant for RHG's Real Cares Program.
