4.9 Competition Draws
KNOCKOUT COMPETITIONS:
If the number of teams does not equal 4, 8, 16, 32, 64 etc., then byes must be included in the draw so that the number of
teams and byes are brought up to 4, 8, 16, 32 etc., - all byes must be drawn in the first round. Six (6) teams would mean 2
byes to bring the number up to 8.

This style of competition can be extended so that winners from round 1 continue to the right and the losers of round 1
continue to the left. The winners of round 2 continue to round 3 until finally there is a winner on the right and a winner on the
left. These two (2) play off for a final winner.

place on board by a hook or slot.

already issued a challenge to the person above him/her.

SEEDING
Players can be seeded according to results of other competitions. A knockout can then be arranged with the players
seeded. This method gives a greater chance of holding an evenly matched final and the two (2) top competitors cannot meet
until the final.

ROUND ROBIN
To find the number of matches per team:
even number of teams = number – 1
odd number of teams = the same number
The number of games played in the competition is found by the following formula:
Number of teams X (that number – 1)
