Making an Impact

The Fight for Air Climb is the signature fundraising event for the
American Lung Association. It is designed to raise funds and
awareness to support the mission of our organization; to save lives

Corporate & Community Team Supportby improving lung health and preventing lung disease.

The American Lung Association is proud to share that 89 cents of
every dollar raised goes to the Lung Association’s programs and
services, research, advocacy and public health education. The
initiatives and projects below are some of the pieces essential to
the Lung Association’s mission and displays why the Lung Associa-
tion is truly a leader in the Fight for Air.

Local Impact

Tobacco 21 – Effective October 2016, in the City of Chicago, no one under the age of 21 can purchase
tobacco products.

Cigarette Tax - Chicago increased cigarette tax to $7.17/pack, now the highest cigarette tax in the
nation. The city has also regulated e-cigarettes as “tobacco” products.

National Impact

The Lung HelpLine – The FREE Lung HelpLine is staffed by respiratory therapists and registered nurses
available to answer lung health questions on topics including smoking cessation, COPD, lung
cancer, medication, clinical trials and more. Call the Lung HelpLine at 1-800-LUNG-USA.

Research – The American Lung Association is committed to funding research that will bring us closer to
a day when we will be able to reverse, treat, prevent, and ultimately find cures for all suffering from
lung disease. Research is supported through three distinct programs – the Awards & Grants
Program; the Asthma Clinical Research Centers Network (ACRC) and the Epidemiology and
Statistics Program.

Tobacco-Free Campus – Through our workshops and toolkit, the Lung Association is actively working
with colleges and universities to implement tobacco-free campus policies.

Asthma 101 – This training arms school teachers, staff and administrators with the resources necessary
to recognize the signs and symptoms of asthma and asthma triggers, and simultaneously take the
necessary steps to ensure that every child with asthma has access to treatment and to the have the
appropriate action plan in place to successfully manager their asthma.

Healthy Air Campaign - The American Lung Association is fighting to protect the Clean Air Act, a law
that has been ensuring that our air is healthy and safe for the last 40 years. The Clean Air Act re-
duces our exposure to the harmful effects of pollution by regulating emissions of ozone, particle
pollution and other pollutants. To learn more visit www.lung.org
