A STUDY OF TEST ANXIETY AMONG FORM SIX STUDENTS IN A SPEAKING TEST IN MALAYSIA
The purpose of this paper is to discuss speaking test anxiety of form six students in SMK Bandar Sarikei, Sarawak. A total of 28 students participated in this research which was conducted in September 2019. This study employed the survey technique. The research instrument used in this study is the Test Anxiety Questionnaire (TAQ) adapted from Mandler & Sarason (1952). This instrument is a 37-item questionnaire designed to measure the students’ level of test anxiety while undergoing their speaking test for MUET, a pre-requiste of universities and training colleges. This paper discusses some important characteristics regarding test anxiety as experienced by for 28 students. Among the aspects discussed include: (i) anxiety during test; (ii) anxiety defensive; (iii) anxiety avoidance; (iv) anxiety interpretation; (v) anxiety reaction; (vi) anxiety reappraisal; (vii) anxiety feedback and (viii) anxiety coping.To alleviate this test anxiety, the researcher uses social media, ‘watsup’ to guide students. This research also illustrates to what extend use of social media ‘watsup’ reduces test anxiety.
