what are essential oils?
Essential oils are aromatic, volatile compounds which
come from leaves, roots, resin, seeds, and
other plant parts. They are lipid soluble, and
their light molecular weight allows them to
readily penetrate the various membranes
found in the body to deliver their
benefits.

topical how to use
The most common way to enjoy the benefits of essential oils is topical
application. Because of their molecular structure, essential oils are rapidly
absorbed by the skin. When applied topically, it takes just 2-3 minutes for
an oil to reach the bloodstream, 20 minutes to affect every cell in the
body, then 2 ½ hours to metabolize.
Common application areas:
pulse points
soles of feet back of neck
stomach behind the ears
temples
Many of Young Living’s essential oils can be applied directly to the skin
without dilution, or neat. Refer to individual bottles for application
instructions. When necessary, dilute essential oils with Young
Living’s V-6 Vegetable Oil complex, olive oil, or other fatty oil.
Young Living’s AromaGlide Roller Fitments
(pictured) are especially useful for quick and clean
topical application of a neat or diluted oil.

aromatic
Fragrance is the substance of memories. Aroma inhaled causes the
olfactory bulb to send messages to the limbic part of the brain, which
activates memories and emotions. When inhaling, it takes 22 seconds
for an oil to reach the brain. The only way to reach the limbic system is
through smell, which is why oils are such a great option for those
needing emotional support and support for their nervous system.
Diffusing is another way we inhale oils — it purifies the air, makes your
home smell good without chemicals, is great for respiratory support,
and lightening moods and attitudes.
Aromatic options include:
ultrasonic diffusers rub a drop between palms, cup
diffuser jewelry over nose, & inhale

essential oil safety tips
Avoid the eyes and ears when applying your essential oils (EOs). If an
essential oil (EO) gets in the eye, put a dab of fatty carrier, such as
olive, jojoba, almond, or grapeseed oil, around the outside of the
eyelid. Do NOT use water.
If you have a disease or medical condition, or if you are using
prescription medication, it is recommended that you consult with a
health advisor who has experience with EOs prior to use. Seek the
advice of the prescribing physician and a pharmacist about potential
interactions between the medication(s) and the EO(s).
Some EOs, especially citrus oils, contain natural molecules that react
with sunlight (UV light) and cause a sensitivity reaction. All YL EOs
and oil blends that contain these compounds are labeled with a
warning to avoid sun/UV light for 12 to 48 hours after applying.
Use caution when starting a new oil; use patch testing and dilute and
apply the oil to skin that is protected from sun/UV exposure to reduce
the risk of sensitivity.
Many EOs are appropriate for use with children, and should be
properly diluted prior to use.
It is generally recommended to avoid the use of Clary Sage (Salvia
sclarea), Sage (Salvia officinalis), Tansy (Tanacetum vulgare), Hyssop
(Hyssopus officinalis), Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare), and Wintergreen
(Gaultheria procumbens), as well as the blends and supplements that
contain these oils, during pregnancy.
