The 4th class had a Haunted House on October 30, 2014.
First we wrote our scripts. Next, we practiced and memorized
our lines. We had to cooperate with the other classmates to get
the play done.

The Midnight Madness Hotel was written by Brayden. I was
the owner of the Hotel. We were killing all the customers. It
was cool because we pushed them off the stage. There was a
stand so I could talk with them. We made the kids touch the
hand. The helpers were Mason, Emily and Dakota. I learned
that if you cooperate you will put on a show. I will do it again
because it was fun!!!

The pumpkin patch was written by Dakota. The scarey
part was when I jumped at the kids. I told them I was going to
turn them into a zombie and make them eat a brain. I also
took the kids from station to station. It was fun to put it on
and scare the kids. I learned to be responsible.

Emily Leach wrote the Haunted Horse Race . The
headless horseman tried to spook the kids. Mason the trainer’s
helper helped the students though the tunnel. My favorite part
was when Brayden the headless horseman scared the students. I
learned to be a better actress. I would love to do it again!

Mason wrote the Haunted Circus. The evil clown and his
sidekick Bobo the clown took over the Circus. They killed the
Magical Magician. Booboo and Bobo the clowns had to throw the
Magical Magician into the lions cage. I learned how to do my
lines. It was very hard work.

The kindergartners all dressed up in their
Halloween costumes for the party.

SANDHILLS PUBLIC SCHOOL ANNUAL ASBESTOS NOTIFICATION

The Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) passed in 1987, requires all public and private schools to
inventory and inspect all buildings in each system for asbestos containing material. (ACM)

Please be advised that these management plans are on file in the school's administrative offices and are open for public
inspection during office hours.  Complete copies of the management plans are available to anyone who wishes to have one. 
Each six months the school is required to have the ACM surveyed to determine if the asbestos material has deteriorated or
been damaged in any way.  A management plan and action to remove or repair the asbestos is also listed in the management
plan, which is open to public inspection.  Sandhills Public Schools contact people are Anita Peterson and Jody Anderson. 
Anita may be reached at the Elementary center, and Jody may be reached at the High School center.

SANDHILLS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ANNUAL WATER NOTIFICATION

The Sandhills Elementary School is a Non-Transient, Non-Community (NTNC) water supply system that serves over 25
people per day.  This requires that our elementary center must employ a water operator of a grade IV or above and must
comply with all regulation that are state mandated for a water supply system of this kind.  The State of Nebraska also has
people in the field who help the water operators perform as intended.  Anyone wishing to see water sample reports,
emergency plan, source water assessment, sanitary survey operating manuals or has any question about the water at the
elementary may contact Anita Peterson.  All water records are open for public viewing, and may be seen during regular
office hours.  Please contact Anita at the elementary, (533-2203).

My Grandpa

James Adam Bunker is my great grandfather. He served in the
Army Air Force in World War 2. He said he really had no choice; he either had to join

the Air Force or get drafted into the marines; so he joined the Air Force at Camp Dodge,
Iowa. At the age of 19 he began basic training in Amarillo Army Air Force Base in

Texas. He was transferred to Pocatello, Idaho, for firearms training. After training, he
went to Bruning Army Air Force in Nebraska.

May 22, 1945 my great grandpa Jim departed for service
overseas. He was stationed on Ie Shima and Okinawa, which are two islands near Japan.
My grandpa was a Sergeant with the 507th Fighter Group, 463rd fighter squadron a total
of two years and four months. He received the American Theatre of Operation Service

Ribbon and Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Service with 3 battle stars. He also received the
Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge with Oak Leaf Clusters,

and Expert Carbine Medal. Great Grandpa Jim was discharged at Fort Douglas, Utah on
April 8, 1946.He brought home a Japanese bayonet as a souvenir.

Great grandpa’s best memories were meeting and marrying my
grandma and playing baseball with his fellow soldiers.

My Grandpa Jim was proud to serve his country, but was ready to get home in
America to see his family. The men of his Fighter Group met together for reunions until

just recently. At these reunions they would talk about the war, share stories that they
remembered, and honor those who they had lost. Great grandpa Jim, unfortunately died

in February, 2013, so I had to rely on his daughter, my Grandma Tisha, to give me facts
about his time in the Army Air Force. Grandpa Jim is my hero!

I interviewed a special friend of our family that we trade brandings with and is also a
member of our church. His name is Clarence Lanka. Clarence attended high school in
only three and a half years because his dad needed him home to work on their family
ranch. He was on the ranch until he was able to be spared enough so he could go to the
National Guards. Once he was out of the National Guards, Clarence went back home to
the family ranch.

He helped on the ranch for six years when he then bought a ranch around Stapleton.
After he bought his own ranch he was drafted for the Korean War in 1954. He went to
boot camp in El Paso, Texas where he trained to go to the army. He was in decent shape
from coming off a ranch so boot camp was an ease. Two of his memories about boot
camp were the heat and how much the young men from the big cities suffered from boot
camp. He was trained to help fire missiles.

Once he learned the basics he was put into action. Clarence was stationed at Niagara
Falls, New York. His job was to watch a radar that would show enemy ships or planes
coming in to fire missiles at the United States. Then he would notify his captain. As he
gave them coordinates on where the missile was, his captain and his crew would shoot
the missile out of the sky before it hit the ground. But Clarence never had to fire at the
enemy. About the time his tour of duty was over in 1956, the US and Russia created the
Inner Continental Ballistic Missile or ICBM he was no longer needed because it could
shoot a lot farther.

So he went home to his ranch near Stapleton. I asked Clarence would you recommend
somebody for military service, he said ‘’Depends on the person and if they have good life
goals and if they do what they believe, then yes he would recommend military service’’. I
also asked what was a good memory about the army and he said ‘’having officers that
were there to help you’’.

Clarence is proud to be veteran and I’m proud to be his friend.
