SCUTTLEBUTT | SUMMER 2022 Strolling around the grounds of Island Bay Yacht Club as summer days
become shorter, I find myself grateful for everything the club rep-
resents. We have a wonderful lakeside location to relax and enjoy, an
From the active membership which utilizes all aspects of the club, and a wel-
coming atmosphere. How many people can say they have this oppor-
Commodore tunity in the greater Springfield area? Not many! Despite the health
and economic struggles we have ALL endured over many months, our
H H H membership continues to support each other and the staff at the club
with that same unfaltering IBYC spirit.
As a small business owner in the restaurant and service industry, I
personally know how difficult it is to find and retain qualified employ-
ees during this time of strange labor shortages. It has caused doors
to close to various establishments across our city and it is painful to
watch. Finding the necessary supplies to keep a restaurant stocked
has also been difficult. With that said, I am proud of how the manage-
ment of IBYC has tirelessly worked to keep things as normal as possi-
ble for the members and the staff. Just mentioning the names of Bob
and Rebecca conjure up images of two people who continually smile
as they look for creative solutions to fill all employee positions, nav-
igate food and beverage shortages, and resolve issues with an aging
club facility. I cannot thank them enough for the resilience each of
them show every day. Well done, Bob and Rebecca!

If you or your family were unable to be a part of the sailing family this
summer, I encourage you to watch for sign-ups in Spring 2023. It is an
experience not to be missed.
The club has hosted a number of member sponsored parties this year
such as wedding receptions, Eagle Scout ceremonies, bridal showers,
and birthday gatherings. Management regularly receives many com-
pliments on how seamlessly and beautifully the events are presented.
If you have a special event, business gathering, or end-of-the-year
party coming up, please consider IBYC for the venue. A simple phone
call to the club office will get the planning process underway.
I hope you enjoy this latest edition of the Scuttlebutt and can be a part
of the wide variety of events still yet to come this summer and fall.
As always, thank you for being a kind and patient membership. Your
support for the board and IBYC staff is greatly appreciated!
Hope to see you at the club!
