DONATIONS ACCEPTED:
QUESTION, PERSUADE, REFER (QRT) TRAINING TO BE OFFERED
Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) is a 1 hour training that teaches 3 simple steps that anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. The QPR training will be held on May 12, 2022, at 1:00 pm. This is a free, in-person training being held at the Brookings Public Library.
Just as people are trained in CPR to help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warn- ings signs of a suicide and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help.
“We understand the need for mental health trainings in our commu- nity. Trainings like QPR will allow the community to be better pre- pared to have conversations about suicide prevention and have an overall impact on our community members,” said Heidi Gullickson, the Executive Director of Brookings Area United Way.
QPR is intended for people and organizations that make up the fab- ric of a community. Professionals who regularly interact with people such as police officers, nurses, human resource directors, primary care workers, school/college leadership, faith communities, and friends and family of individuals with mental illness or addiction, and community members are encouraged to attend.
Deadline for registration is May 11th. Contact Heidi Gullickson, Brookings Area United Way, at [email protected] or call 605-692-4979 for more information or register at https://brookingsunitedway.org/qpr/

ADULT MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID TRAINING TO BE OFFERED
An adult Mental Health First Aid training will be held on May 4th at the Dakota Nature Park. This is an 8-hour course that gives people the skills to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experi- encing a mental health crisis such as contemplating suicide. This is an evidence-based program widely used throughout the United States.
The goal of training is to help support an individual until appropriate professional help arrives. Mental Health First Aiders learn a strategy that includes: assessing risk, respectfully listening to and supporting the individual in crisis, identifying appropriate professional help and other supports.
Participants are introduced to risk factors and warning signs for mental health or substance use problems, will engage in experiential activities that build understanding of the impact of illness on individuals and fam- ilies, and will learn about evidence-supported treatment and self-help strategies.
Mental Health First Aid is intended for people and organizations that make up the fabric of a community. Professionals who regularly interact with people such as police officers, nurses, human resource directors, primary care workers, school/college leadership, faith communities, and friends and family of individuals with mental illness or addiction, and community members are encouraged to attend.
Deadline for registration is April 25th. Contact Heidi Gullickson, Brook- ings Area United Way, at [email protected] or 692-4979 for more information or register at https://brookingsunitedway.org/ mental-health-training-may4/

It is noteworthy that this land has been in the Mogck Family for 65 years making this a once in a lifetime opportunity. This is a parcel of land in one of the more tightly held areas of Moody County (Clare Twp.), where land very seldom comes available on the open market. This land will be sold subject to a 2022 cash rent lease with the purchaser to receive a seller enhanced cash rent credit at closing. The buyer will have the option to either continue the CRP program on the 19.70 acres enrolled in CRP at a rate of $208.00 per acre for an annual total amount of $4,097.60 with the contract set to expire on September 30, 2029, or however, if the buyer should desire to have the CRP contract cancelled, the seller(s) will agree to buyout and cancel the existing contract prior to closing at “their cost” of approx. $9,200.00. The land being offered for sale on this auction consists of a parcel of land with a relatively high percentage tillable inclusive of choice high caliber cropland with some extremely high caliber soils. This land will be offered as a +/-160 Acre Unit. According to information obtained from Surety-Agridata Inc., this parcel has a Productivity Index of a 85.9. Comparatively, Moody County Assessor’s information indicates that this parcel has a soil rating of a .807 with both indicating that this is a productive parcel of land with some extremely choice soils. Some 400 years after God promised to Abraham that his descendants would be a nation, Moses declared to the newly formed Israel, “...For you are a holy people...the Lord your God has chosen you to be a peo- ple for Himself...above all the peoples.... ” (Deuteronomy 7:6). This had been evident for 40 years by God’s presence among the people in the tabernacle (Exodus 40:34-35). Unfortunately that bolstered their pride and arrogance. They thought they were better than all others. And that they could do what they desired. And they did!
Another 500 years passed King Solomon built the temple. As the Ark of the Covenant (God’s throne on earth; Ex 25:10, 21-22) was placed in the temple, God’s presence was again evident (1 Kings 8:10-13). The Israelites believed as long as the temple stood, they were in fellowship with God, that they were still His chosen people. Even in their last days before being destroyed because of their idolatry, God instructed His prophet Jeremiah to preach at the temple gate. His message essentially said you trust that you are in harmony with God because the temple still stands. They believed they could come to the temple as required and then return to their “abominations” (Jer 7:1-11). At that time, King Josiah conducted a thorough religious reformation. The depth of the people’s depravity detailed, one of which is the removal of booths in God’s temple for homosexual prostitution as worship (2 Kings 23:7). But the Jews did not repent. The temple was destroyed and the people removed from the land. Seventy years later they returned only because of God’ promise to Abraham that one descendant (Jesus) would be a blessing to the world (Gen 12:3; 22:18; Galatians 3:16).
At the time of Jesus, the Jews appealed to their descendancy from Abraham as their guaranteed relationship with God. Now John and Jesus told them to repent. Jesus said to believe in the kingdom of God. Huh? Aren’t we Jews God’s kingdom? After all, God declared when we were formed a nation, “And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation” (Exodus 19:6). Jesus said the kingdom of God is near. Huh? Jews: We are God’s kingdom! Repent of what? What is the gospel (good news) we should believe? It was a shocking sermon. What did it entail?
