To attend kindergarten in the fall of 2020, a child must be 5 years of age on or before September 1, 2020. Registration and screen- ing is required for all kindergarten students entering the Brook- ings School District. The screening process includes a readiness skills assessment that helps determine the child’s readiness for beginning kindergarten. This screening process is also needed for families interested in SDSU Kindergarten or Brookings School Disctrict Junior Kindergarten.

Artists Sought for 2021 Gallery Exhibitions at the Brookings Arts Council
The Brookings Arts Council has opened its call for entries for the 2021 Gallery exhibitions. Submissions are open to all forms of Art and entries are open nationwide.
The Brookings Arts Council (BAC) is located in the recently renovated historic former Carnegie Library. There are 103 feet of wall space and approximately 1,300 square feet of floor space between two galleries. There are a variety of pedestals of various sizes available for use.

Local high school string quartet to join touring Beatles vs. Stones show on Brookings stage
When the touring show Beatles vs. Stones – A Musical Show- down comes to the Swiftel Center on Thursday, March 19, a string quartet from Brookings and Sioux Falls area high schools will join the professional musicians on stage to lend some local talent to this homage to the British Invasion. The show pits Rolling Stones tribute band Satisfaction against rival Brit boys Abbey Road in an all-out musical showdown for rock dominance. The string quartet will perform six songs with the bands.
The string quartet: Brookings High School senior Kate Ropp and Sioux Falls Roosevelt High School seniors Elsa Watkins, Briley Bohnet and junior Gabriel Lima will join the bands for the songs "Eleanor Rigby," "A Day in the Life," "Hello Goodbye," "Hey Jude," "Gimme Shelter" and "Ruby Tuesday." Quartet members belong to prestigious area ensembles, including the Brookings High School Orchestra, the Sioux Falls Roosevelt High School Cham- ber Orchestra, the Sioux Falls Youth Orchestra and the South Dakota Youth Symphony. The quartet will also perform with the Beatles vs. Stones show on March 18 at the Sioux Falls Orpheum.
The two greatest rock 'n' roll bands of all time face off as the Swif- tel Center hosts tributes to the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. Renowned tribute bands Abbey Road and Satisfaction - The In- ternational Rolling Stones Show engage in a musical showdown of the hits. In the last article we reviewed Secular Humanism’s method of indoctri- nation via the education system. Although William Buckley caused a ker- fuffle in the academic community when he revealed something was afoul in his God and Man at Yale (1951). He exposed the undermining of stu- dent’s faith via Yale’s attitude of hostility toward Christianity. And in 1961 that school textbooks contained serious perversions and omissions were first revealed by Mel and Norma Gabler. Their persistence in exposing the increasing radical textbook revisions over the next 15 years was laid before the nation in Textbooks on Trial (J.C. Hefley, 1976).
At the same time, Buckley’s class published a poll in its 25th Year Re- union book (1975) regarding living together out of wedlock – 43% were in favor, 42% opposed. Marriage was being shredded. Beginning just five years earlier was the No-Fault divorce laws and Gay pride parades.
Today marriage is often little more than an expensive ritual to be broken within a couple years and now legalized homosexual marriage nearly guar- antees God’s ordained lifelong monogamous heterosexual marriage is no longer revered. That 40% of babies are born to unwed mothers is also ev- idence. Could Humanism’s impact be worse?
Yes – destroy the home as God ordained it. Not only is God’s order of marriage disrespected via easy divorce, but also the very God ordained order of the home has been altered. His order is man and woman in lifelong marriage providing a stable home environment to rear children. It has been largely trashed.
Before looking at the aberration of the family, let’s consider the home as God would have it. The home begins with the father as head of the house. “For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church” (Ephesians 5:23). If anything is chaotic, it is any organization with two heads. Or where the head is undermined. As in the Old Testament fathers are ultimately responsible for child rearing. Note what God instructed – “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up” (Deuteronomy 6:6-7). God has maintained that same order of responsibility in the New Testament – “...fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4).
