FOR THE LOVE OF ANTIQUES (AND MORE)
In case you hadn’t thought about it, July 2019 was a long time ago. You haven’t been able to visit your favorite Brookings Summer Arts Festival antiques area since then. But lo and behold, it’s two long years later, and your antiques booths will soon be setting up in Pioneer Park. They’ve missed you as much as you have missed them. They’ll bring with them their normal interesting wares, and the two new booths are a welcome addition. Of course the most fun part of visiting antiques booths is that you never know what you’re going to find....or what you’re going to learn. Those pretty little dishes that you always serve ice cream in – the ones you’ve always wondered and worried about – maybe you’ll find a few more to replace the ones you ‘ve damaged over the years. Maybe you’ll even find out what company made them and when! Or maybe you’ll find a replacement for the pink wine glass your sister knocked over and broke at a family dinner
years ago. Maybe you’ll start a new collection of baskets or pottery or cast iron door stops. And don’t forget to bring pictures of items you may be interested in selling to the dealers.
Come to the Brookings
Summer Arts Festival to visit
the many wonderful art booths, to eat and eat and eat, to be entertained at the bandshell and other stages in the park, to visit and learn in the Rendezvous and Historical area, and to learn and be impressed in the Edibles and Naturals area. But definitely don’t miss the Antiques area on the southwest side of the park. Even if you’re not an “antiquer,” you will enjoy the trip down memory lane.
Your 2021 BSAF Antiques Area vendors are:
Kathy Cole, (Memory Box Antiques) Burleson, TX
Jim and Becky Gladis, (Mill Creek Antiques) Chatfield, MN Ardella Galvin, (Rags to Rugs) Roslyn, SD
Randy Bullis and Lisa Morford, (Bits of Yesterday) Arlington, SD Sandra and Thomas Halajian, (Sandy's Unique Collectibles) Watertown, SD Joe and Shawn Hoffman, (Hoffman’s Antiques) Vermillion, SD Curtis and Irma Buer, (Buer Antiques) Canby, MN
Dave and Diane Rieck, (Antique Trap) Humboldt, SD
Boyd and Judy Hagenson, (BJ’s Collectibles) Britton, SD
R. L. Brenner, (Chances R) Ethan, SD
Visit the Antiques Area at the Brookings Summer Arts Festival, Pioneer Park Saturday and Sunday, July 10 and 11.

LIVING HISTORY AREA
The festival started in 1972 with a pioneer theme because of its location, and this area has become a mainstay of the BSAF. In 1976, as part of the National Bicentennial Celebration,
a special area was set aside for historic traders and a muzzleloader target shoot. In 1984, the target shooting stopped and frontier crafts became the main attraction of the Living History Area.
The Brookings Renegade Muzzleloaders Club will be manning the main gate and guiding the parking for the valid handicapped vehicles. The Silver Creek Mavericks will greet exhibitors at the West gate to direct them to their parking areas and assist with large parcel pick-up. The 13th U.S. Infantry/Fort Dakota will hold a brief flag raising ceremony in front of the Bandshell both Saturday and Sunday at 10am.

Quincy Flint. Gainesville based independent musician, Quincy Allen Flint, began writing original music in March of 2020 during self-isolation at the start of the COVID19 pandemic. He has composed original songs ranging in style from Conventional American Folk, Classic Country Western, to Melodic Piedmont Blues and Talkin' Blues. Quincy writes fantastically forlorn folk music in hopes of one day writing the perfect song. His music frequently draws on imagery from nature and reflects on the trials and trivialities of the human experience. quincyallenflint.com
Curtis & Loretta. Curtis & Loretta’s music comes straight from the heart. The husband and wife duo’s extraordinary harmonies and proficiency on a parade of stringed instruments create an alluring frame for their poignant original songs, and carefully chosen traditional pieces from the British Isles, America, and beyond. The current menagerie includes Celtic harp, mandocello, mandolin, guitars, clawhammer banjo, and National steel ukulele. South Dakota Arts Council support is provided with funds from the State of South Dakota, through the Department of Tourism, and the National Endowment for the Arts. curtisandloretta.com
Peter Brunette Juggler. Entertaining thousands of children and adults in more than twenty years of performing, Peter Brunette is a dynamic, passionate performer. Peter fell in love with juggling at the tender age of five after seeing his father juggle three balls. He has described this as the most impactful moment of his life; even more important than when he first discovered velcro shoelaces. He learned to juggle in elementary school and never looked back. Peter is currently based in Omaha, Nebraska and juggling full time. He has made a name for himself as Nebraska’s top juggler with signature tricks like blindfold knife juggling on a rolla bolla. His impressive skills and hilarious juggling shows have brought him national attention and performances throughout the country as well as at Omaha’s top venues. jugglerpeter.com
Brookings Area Community Band. The BACB has, since 1984, been playing Sunday evening concerts during the summer months at Pioneer Park at 7:30 pm. The 100 member band, directed by Dr. David Reynolds, presents themed concerts. Each concert provides a variety of music and family fun including complimentary treats and featuring a children's march.

BROOKINGS AREA UNITED WAY AND BOBCAT BACKERS PART-
NER WITH AMERICAN RED CROSS - BLOOD DRIVE RESULTS
Brookings Area United Way and Bobcat Backers hosted a community blood drive with the American Red Cross on Wednesday, June 16th, from 12:00 to 6:00pm at the Outdoor Adventure Center located at 2810 22nd Ave South in Brookings.
The community blood drive was able to receive 5 new donors in ad- dition to returning donors, totaling to 37 donors! With all the blood do- nations received, our community blood drive potentially saved 96 lives!
Blood is a perishable product that can only come from volunteer blood donors. With someone in the U.S. needing blood every two seconds, blood products must be constantly replenished, according to the Red Cross.
“We urge community members to donate blood and help ensure that patients in local hospitals have a supply of blood ready and waiting be- fore an emergency occurs. There’s no better feeling than knowing that your blood donation may give someone a second chance at life.” The next American Cross blood drive will be on September 15th. You can sign up by visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-REDCROSS.

If anyone said, “I am the only Truth” we would dismiss such an au- dacious claim as hilarious if not ludicrous – the height of arrogance. Yet, on the eve of His crucifixion, Jesus of Nazareth said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (Jn 14:6). That for 2000 years simply by His words (no con- quering armies or tyranny), He has had the continuous impact on the world like no other person, He at the least deserves close investiga- tion. Is He in fact THE truth? If so, each one of us is obligated to His authority. After all, the people who heard Him “were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes (Jewish religious leader lawyers, jm)” (Matthew 7:28-29). That is what the New Testament claims, but is that record reliable, i.e., is it what was originally written? Can we trust the Bible to be true?
The great challenge to know truth at all is fallible sinful, yea evil, us (Genesis 8:21). One only needs to look at the current national elec- tion kerfuffle and the obfuscation before congressional committees to realize that we, yes each of us, has a serious problem with truth. Being honest with ourselves, we ask was man honorable to the extent that he revered the Bible so greatly as to pass it along honestly and ac- curately through the millennia? Did man, and does man revere the Bible as being the inspired word of God? Note, the word inspired is used once in the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16), making the claim that every word comes from God.
The Greek word translated inspired is literally “God-breathed,” meaning it comes from the very inner depths of God Himself. If so, do we have what He intends for us to acknowledge Him as the Sov- ereign Creator of what exists, and to truly know His purpose for our existence – for you? The Bible makes the claim about 4000 times, that it comes from God (eg., “thus says the Lord’, “the Lord said, ” etc). Does it? How can we know? That begins with ascertaining whether we have the Bible as originally written. Do we have credible manuscripts through the ages, close to when the events recorded in the Bible occurred? More next!
