The 2020 contest, hosted by Brookings Economic Development Cor- poration (BEDC), encourages entrepreneurs, innovators, creative thinkers, and basically anyone with a good idea to participate by sub- mitting a one-page description simply explaining what your idea is, who would benefit from it and where are you at in the process of developing your idea into a potential product or business. Finalists will be asked to give a five-minute pitch of their idea to a panel of judges.
“The Idea Competition continues to be one of our most popular pro- grams,” said Jennifer Quail, BEDC Director of Entrepreneur Support. “In addition to having minimal requirements, this contest provides peo- ple with the opportunity to take their product or business ideas to the next level of development.”
Ideas can be submitted online at startupbrookings.com/idea Entries will be placed in either the General Business or Science/Technology cat- egories, and a total of $2,500 in prize money will be awarded with re- ceipt of money subject to winners reaching business milestones.
The competition is free, and the deadline for idea submissions is Tues- day, February 18th. Finalists will pitch their ideas on Friday, February
28th, and winners will be announced at an open house networking event that evening, from 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. at the Brookings Innova-
tion Center.

Gayle Chapel
Brookings Native
joins the Brookings Home Team powered by Century 21 Krogman & Co.
Chapel, a native of Brookings, has served clients with their real estate needs for the past 24 years, and is looking forward to joining the Brookings Home Team, which is a select group of real estate professionals at Century 21 Krogman & Company led by REALTOR® Shane Andersen.
“I have always focused my business on the concept that I am making lifetime friendships, one home at a time,” said Chapel. “This personal attention really aligns well with the Brookings Home Team philosophy and the commitment they have to exceed clients’ expectations for outstanding service.”
Chapel was named the 2008 South Dakota REALTOR® of the Year and served as the 2014 State President for the South Dakota Association of REAL- TORS®. She also has received numerous accolades from Century 21, consistently receiving its annual Quality Service Award. In addition to work on regional and state boards, and national committees, she also participates in many local community organizations, including the Brookings Chamber of Commerce, Brookings Optimist Club, Brookings Homebuilders Association, Brookings County Historical Society, Lake Campbell Sportsman Club and Dakota Drifters Snowmobile Club. She and her husband enjoy golf, hobby farming and snowmobiling, and have two grown children and five grand- children.
Chapel believes that her strengths - in addition to her extensive knowledge of the local real estate market - are organizational skills and her commit- ment to customer satisfaction. “Making your family dreams come true is important,” she said. “I understand that persistence and patience are essen- tial aspects of the entire process. I will handle every last detail of the transaction, minimizing stress while maximizing satisfaction.”
Andersen said the addition of Chapel to the Brookings Home Team is a great match. “We’re very excited to have Gayle join the Brookings Home Team,” Andersen said. “She is a consummate professional, yet brings to her clients a level of personal attention that makes the real estate transac- tion a very positive experience. For all of us on the Home Team, helping a client buy or sell a home is far more than just ‘closing the deal’; it’s about building relationships with friends and neighbors.”

BEDC Funded Equipment Expands Opportunities for SDSU
• PCB Printer to Enhance Student Experience, Faculty Research
Brookings Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) is excited to continue supporting SDSU student and faculty innovation opportunities by providing access to a Printed Circuit Board (PCB) printer. This printer will be a key resource for numerous student teams working in a variety of areas: mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, biological en- gineering, CubeSat small satellite development, and robotics.
BEDC manages a science and technology equipment fund to support en- trepreneurial activities within the Brookings community. The intent of the fund is to assist startups and those focused on emerging technologies with financing for specialized equipment integral to their mission. This fund is utilized to help startups purchase equipment through a no-inter- est lease back program that is integral to their startup process.
“The talent pool of students and researchers at SDSU is a key asset to the entrepreneurial and economic growth of the community. We con- tinue to be inspired by the innovative work happening at SDSU, and when presented with an opportunity to support these efforts, we took it,” said Jennifer Quail, BEDC Director of Entrepreneur Support.
PCBs are used when developing prototypes, conducting research and in numerous senior design projects. Currently, students and faculty work- ing on senior design or independent research projects develop these PCBs usually as a rough prototype on breadboards or use pre-assembled boards as needed. The new printer will not only speed up the process of design, but also increase the accuracy of the boards and provide a pro- fessional outcome. Shorter development time can lead to enhanced dis- covery, redirection of efforts and elevated results and outcomes.
The PCB printer has been purchased by BEDC and will be available to
students and faculty early in the Spring 2020 semester.
wide x 2” tall
“We see the PCB printer as a key tool and resource for our students as it provides for a better understanding of the process from starting with a design to finishing with production,” said Dr. Anamika Prasad, Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at SDSU. “In addition, it will also enhance the professionalism of the student project which is critical when seeking internships and employment.”
BEDC’s Entrepreneur Support Program is interested in the continued development of creative and impactful ways to support ideas, innovation and entrepreneurship in the Brookings region. For more information, visit the Brookings Startup Hub at www.startupbrookings.com contact Quail at (605) 697-8103, by email at [email protected] or stop by their office at 2301 Research Park Way, Ste. 113, Brookings.

More and more the lifestyle God demands has been supplanted by god- less Secular Humanism – man’sself-made religion. We have become like ancient Israel who thumbed their nose at God by turning to their lifestyle of idolatry. The Psalmist’s appeal for Israel to trust God, reveals this – “The idols...the work of men’s hands....Those who make them are like them; So is everyone who trusts them.” (135:15-21; Ps 115:1-11). Why? As ancient Israel, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Be- cause you have rejected knowledge...” (Hosea 4:6) and “everyone did what was right in his own eyes” (Judges 21:24). By accepting Secular Human- ism, we made up our own religion according to our depraved desires.

WEEKLY CIRCULATION
A 2017 American Bible Society survey revealed there are 3 Bibles per house. One would think with so many Bibles, we would be a nation fa- natically discussing it and its purpose. Yet over 50% have never read any of it and only 11% have read all of it (Lifeway Research, 2017). That it is hardly read contextually is revealed by politicians’ misapplication of the Bible, trying to deify their political rant. For shame! But it does reveal their abysmal ignorance (hopefully not dishonesty). In perspective, one would think since the Bible propounds what happens to us when we die, it would be the most voraciously read and worn outbook in the house.

The impact of Secular Humanism, the USA’s surreptitious defacto state religion has been slow but sure for about a century, deceiving the people more and more from one generation to the next. Last week, we consid- ered a symptom of the impact – Goodwill gives away used Bibles. Obvi- ously that is because no one wants to buy them. Is it because people would rather buy a new one than a used one? Or they have a new Bible, so dis- card the older? Or they have too many Bibles? Or they no longer want a Bible?
As the Soviet socialist professor acknowledged in 1990, “We thought we could get rid of God and retain the values of being human beings. We were wrong. We got rid of God and devalued humanity.” Increasingly over 100 years the USA has allowed biblical precepts in every realm of life to be supplanted by godless Secular Humanism. As this ugly flower blooms, it is obvious we admit the same as the professor. Next – more on the symp- toms of being our own god and utterly rejecting God and His absolute bib- lical ethics and morality.

According to FSA information, there are approx. 16 acres of cropland within the boundaries of the acreage, with the remainder comprised of the home site, livestock yards and other improvements, the bin site, waterway/drainage and roads.
