nism has been increasingly ta
N
lic school system for a century. Thus from one generation to the next, folks
drift further away from faith based on a supreme being, especially Chris-
tianity, given to man by the God of heaven. So in reality Humanism has become at least the defacto societal religion, evident by the advancement of its values especially by schools.
TownAndCountrySHOPPER.net
Humanism’s pragmatic value system (no absolute standard for anything) was introduced into the school system to subtly supplant the absolute bib- lical virtues. In 1975, parents sued the LaVista school district(Omaha) for requiring high school seniors to take a course entitled “Values Clarifica- tion.” From where did the notion originate to teach it in schools?
Since the NEA has a significant voice in what is taught in schools, it is reasonable that Humanism could not be taught without at least NEA con- sent. But could this be done without parental consent? What was the NEA’s reaction to this Humanistic proposal?
Harold Drummond wrote in Educational Leadership (Dec 1964), “The basic goal of education is change....This issue focuses upon the school as a change agent – and the specific focus is on changing people.”
Carl Rogers (client centered psychotherapist) clarified in the same jour-
nal (May 1967) what this“change” the schools were to affect – “...the goal
of education must be to develop individuals who are open to change...the
goal of education must be to develop a society in which people can live
more comfortably with change than with rigidity.” So the goal of educa-
tion was to condition people to accept change in contrast to the traditional
goal to impart knowledge. He further stated, “We need to de-emphasize
tradition and the past....Educators can no longer deplore and resist change.

way.’” Rogers advocated an open chaotic classroom, arguing that cre-

ativity and progress would result. And if the orderliness of being “right”

was maintained, only rigidity and conservatism would prevail.
In 1971 the NEA openly advocated the school teacher’s role as being the change agent for Humanism.“...teachers who conform to the tradi- tional institutional mode are out of place. They might find fulfillment as tap-dance instructors or.... agents of the FBI – but they damage teaching, children and themselves by staying in the classroom.” Humanism became more noticeable in the 1970s. “If the foundations be destroyed, what can
