Last week, we were considering the standard by which man lives hoping to live eternally. We cited the PEW poll revealing that 65% (40% in 2002) of Americans believe they can be “moral and have good values” without believing in God. Although 90% of those who did not consider organized religion important believed that they could be moral and have good values. Morality and values were not defined in the poll. Just what is moral and what are values? Para- mount is, what is “good?”
Our subject was the assertion that refusing to accept a woman’s right to have an abortion is “immoral” in order to justify the right- ness of murdering the unborn child. Similarly, the Nazis tried to jus- tify their genocide of the Jews.
Rudolf Höss, (commandant at Auschwitz) justified his role in this holocaust to obey Hitler’s declaration that there must be the “anni- hilation of the Jewish race in Europe,” stating, “We were all trained to obey orders....I really never gave much thought to whether it was wrong. It just seemed a necessity.” The genocide of the Jews was justified because of one man. Might makes right! Fortunately, the judges refused to accept the “following orders” defense, stating that we are accountable to a law higher than the provincial (national). Inferring that we are accountable to God.
Yet as the recent PEW poll infers that man insists on being his own standard. Most disconcerting is 71% of those under age 50 be- lieve is not necessary to believe in God (implicitly His standard) in order to have morals and good values, however they decide to define them. That is the fruit of the propaganda of Secular Humanism that has been foisted upon the nation via public schools for 50 years. This ultimately opens the door to anything being defined as morally good or bad. And of course, the destiny of the country is at stake. And it is a threat to the safety, and even the open practice, of those who revere the God of heaven and Christ the Savior of mankind.
