Grief Support GroupAt this 13-week support group program, you’ll discover what to expect in the days ahead and what’s “normal” in grief. Since there are no neat, orderly stages of grief, you’ll learn helpful ways of coping with grief, in all its unpredictability—and gain solid support each step of the way.If you have experienced the death of a family member or friend, and choose to reserve a place in the group, contact [email protected] Groups will meet Tuesdays, at 10:00 to 11:30am, or 5:30 to 7:00pm beginning June 2. For these meetings only, no Brookings Activity Center membership is required and adults of any age are welcome. Groups are limited to 12 persons. There is no charge, as Calvary Free Lutheran Church in Arlington is sponsoring this program. TOPICS INCLUDE:• How to manage grief-related emotions such as loneliness, anxiety, sadness, anger, and regret • How to cope with the changes in your life and relationships • How to recognize what’s normal in grief and what to do if you feel stuck or hopeless.YOU DON’T HAVE TO FACE IT ALONE! However, the survey failed to ask about the meaning of “Christian.” After Pres. Reagan declared that the USA is a Christian nation, a young man’s response to a journalist asking about the meaning of Christian was “to be a patriot” (reflects biblical ignorance). In this series, our purpose is to show that Christian Nationalism is not New Testament Christianity, nor an advocacy for a state church or religion. And that the USA has unwittingly adopted Secular Humanism as it’s state religion through the last 50 years via the public education system. It began with an experiment adapting Carl Roger’s client- centered counseling method into the education system. Carl Rogers and Bill Coulson were the facilitators. In 1965, the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary school system in Los Angeles responded to try the non-directive encounter group. However, in the early 1960s, this particular religious order had already been interested in self-directed thinking, which is also key in encounter group activities. The order’s superior invited Dutch psychologist-priest Adrian van Kaam to conduct retreat exercises during which “all community rules were suspended.” This is the foundational principle of Values Clarification. No standards! No borders! No limitations! In other words, anything is permissible and acceptable. Thus, the person makes up his own standard of conduct as he goes along, and changes his standard to suit himself. The results were that the nuns became aware of “how dictatorial superiors were and in turn, how dependent, submissive, and helpless nuns were when it came to working with the outside world.” This was the first step to the rejection of authority and standards, and establishing self as the autonomous authority. Roger's non-directive therapy emphasized this self-empowerment by encouraging individuals to center only on their own inner desires (which eliminates any type of external authority figure and encourages rebellion). In contrast, the teachings of Jesus focus on accepting Him as the ultimate authority, and self-denial by putting Him first, above all else. This was at the heart of devout, i.e., practicing Catholic priests and nuns. Now in the late 1960s, Coulson initiated the Rogerian non-directive therapy sessions with groups of nuns in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Order. The result was shockingly stunning! Next.
